John Madden was the ultimate Color Commentator. The Wheels were always turning and some of his comments were so Zany, yet appropriate you didn't even notice the time ticking between plays.
The people out there who like to diss McMahon are usually curiously silent when it's brought to their attention the high praise Madden had for him, because they know [most of 'em, anyway] that Madden really knew what he was talking about. There's a whole buncha people out there right now who only know him as a color analyst, not as the winningest coach in NFL history among coaches with at least 100 wins [by win %]. The guy really knew his stuff.
McMahon was the last great QB the Bears had. He was never gonna put up stats for that offense but he did put up wins. He did put up great numbers in college and he could throw the ball. He wasn't scared of Ditka, McCaskey or even Halas. They don't make em like him anymore.
25-0 between 1984 and 1987. Unbeaten in three years. A record that will never be beaten. He was a winner. Joe Cool starts on my all-time team .. but Mac is on the bench.
That last quote says it all. In a league that had Montana, Marino, Elway, and Fouts, McMahon was as good as any of them. Without Mac, the Bears were an average team. With him they were almost unstoppable. Reminds you of Peyton Manning, who should have won the MVP the year he sat out from neck surgery. He did prove he was the most valuable player on his team. They couldn't win a game without him.
Jimmy McMahon finally returned to BYU to get his number retired and also Roy High in Utah where he attended high school! He’s a legend in Roy. Interesting note, Jaxton Dart who went to USC then Ole Miss started at QB for his freshman through Junior season at Roy High. He transferred his senior season.
Man, he was awesome! If he could’ve stayed healthy or not taking that gutless cheap shot by Charles Martin, the Bears could’ve won another Super Bowl or two. When he was on, he was unstoppable.
...Steve young would say..."the force was mastered"....by Jim..?..not that fast..or big..or 300yrd games...hmmm still one of the best winning records...going down is 4'losers....winnings painfully...worthwhile...
Jim threw acouple “quick outs” in the dirt after Buddy sat Randall in a playoff game. Why? Because if it’s not there it’s a pick six. Time and time again, putting the team first.
McMahon wasn't just good. He was tough and he had fun. That's what Madden loved.
This was when the NFL wasn't Rigged...
Money ruined the greatest sport ever.
Thanks for the Mad Mac vids 👍
Two legends. Madden and Jimmy. Actually 3, Pat too.

Fearless, gutsy, tough, funny, and determined is my definition of the Mac.
Extremely intelligent too.
Agreed! @@dapunkyqb1679
I miss him and what he brought to the game. I've heard people say he was fragile. B.S! Some of the hits he took would have killed most people.
@@Ericx. He would beat Tom Brady's a$$

And the memories come flooding back. Those were the days!
The facemask on the camera had me dying 😂😂
Jim had the attitude of a professional wrestler. I’m sure if he was born in this generation, he would’ve joined Pat on some WWE events.
McMahon was as TOUGH as a two dollar steak !!!
If he weighed 290 pounds he would have been a Guard .

For those who complain about protecting QB, look at McMahon. If he's healthy, the Bears probably have 3 rings
He's my fav

6:16 loaded on pain killers 😂😂😂
At 1$,1984, I saw this team come together like
I miss Madden and Pat Summerall.
Madden (1:30): Well yer a quarterback; the way u fight a guy is [to] throw the ball at 'em.
Summerall: And then u back up.
My brutha from an other mutha

Not too many opportunities for a Chargers game on CBS. Only team missing from the reel.
