this song is really interesting. the rhyming patterns (i'm not really one to pay attention to things like this, but i noticed that it usually happened in 3s and the numbers kept increasing by 10), the lyrics (there's a lot of conclusions you can draw depending on who you think the singer is), and how you actually put a countdown for the piano solo I thought that was really cool. even the title of the song, study, is a mystery to me... maybe i'm just overreacting and looking too deep into things, but that's why i really like this song.
My interpretation of the lyrics + title is that the singer is an individual in school, hence “Study,” and they’re struggling, and have been for a while. They believed that they were going to be something great one day, and was perhaps even expected to do so much for the world, but as time goes on, that ideal begins to die, and they think they’re trying to be something that’s just not meant for them. Failure after failure, they eventually meet a group of people in a similar situation as them. The group encourages the singer to turn to alcohol/drug abuse(“‘drink it all’ they cry” “a soundtrack of a million highs to blanket the shot” etc) to escape it. This only worsens the singer’s situation and creates a cycle that, ultimately, they weren’t able to break. Eventually, after being trapped for so long, they decide that there’s nothing more they could or should do, and commit suicide.
