    Thank you for saving me from spending $240CAD on a low-quality chemically-scented piece of garbage.
    It wasn't easy to find honest reviews online about this company, as the ones that I've read looked bought or simply written by their office workers -oftentimes, badly translated from another language to English.
    Thank you both for your honesty :) It's much appreciated 🙏

      All I can say is that I completely disagree with this review. Maybe he had a bad experience, but my jacket I ordered from them fits great and is really good quality. I was nearly put off purchasing from them, but this is the only negative review on the Internet, all the other review are positive, so I went ahead and am really happy with my jacket. I guess he’s either really fussy and nit pick, or maybe he did receive a poor jacket. My impression is this is a troll review. Cheers

    Fascinating story you guys have here. I appreciate you trying to find the good with the bad. Some cheaper stuff can genuinely be good value, this just isn't one of them. Hell, I bought a cheapo Amazon peacoat when I was in a pinch for $60, thing held up for nearly 7 years, was very warm and functional.

    • @HaasGrotesk
      @HaasGrotesk ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest. These days most of the stuff is mass produced. The pharse "you get what you pay for" was valid 100-150 years ago but not anymore. You have your overpriced BS that isn't much better than the cheap stuff beause it's branded then you have some cheap stuff that is amazing. In order to navigate this insanity you kind of have to go through and get experience with buying good and bad stuff to learn what to buy.

    Some years back I bought one of Amazons landing leathers jackets for something under 200 bucks ( it’s been so long I honestly can’t remember when I bought it ). In its defense it’s actually a very nice jacket. It’s held its color quite nicely for a long time and I wasn’t nice to it. Upon opening it I did not get any wrinkles in it cause it was actually made of good but not great quality leather. The lining was good quality fabric with an insulation layer in it, in general it was a good jacket at a very affordable price. It also didn’t stink or have any kind of “ funk” when opened. It’s a fairly heavy and substantial leather as well. In short it’s a jacket that I felt was an outstanding value for its price. Will be using it more this winter since I’m working in an office type environment again

    God as a south Asian, this makes me feel so bad. You got what we call a "refurbished" jacket. It's oldstock made with older boxier patterns then spray painted (like one would paint a car, literally). If you pull the leather at the seams where it attaches to the lining, you'll notice a color difference. They use a tinted lacquer over a leather that's already been lacquered. A jacket like this would only cost you $35 here which makes this so much more aggregious. I get my skins imported from west Bengal (they have good unfinished analine dyed chrome tanned leather). I usually get my jackets from $80-$120 depending on the style and materials used. But having access to TRUE custom work, all my jackets are lined with wool (repurposed, old/damaged wool coats). Unfortunately, this is something you can't get online. I literally stand over the sewing machine operator since he's using my skins and not from his own pile. Goatskin is pretty common, and since I buy bundles from the tannery directly, I get all full grain leather. The look of scarred leather isn't for everyone but that doesn't render it useless. Flip it around, maybe even burnish with a bit of wax and you'll have a very nice waxed flesh jacket.

      Yes im from Pakistan and lacquer is used on everything from real* vinyl pu leather shoes jackets etc i go thrifting quite often and always cringe from all the jackets that have been ruined by painting lacquer all over them u cant find any type of leather conditioner here so they just use lacquer i was extremely embarrassed watching this video from the fake google profile to tha ai models on thier website it was too hard to watch 😅 although there are extremely talented people here and can make exceptional leather jackets sadly some people just want to maximize profits and dont care about the craft itself i applaud u for ur dedication, if i may ask where are u from?

    I agree with going second hand if you're of a regular size. I am a person who can afford a real premium jacket at this point in my life. I really wanted an A-2 Real McCoy flight jacket and thought I might find one on Ebay. Nope, if I were a small guy like the Japanese sellers I'd find a great jacket for what I feel is my price range. So, I went with Cockpit USA, New and at 30% off during this Black Friday I'm expecting it Monday and it was only three times what that cheap POS was. If you appreciate quality at any level do save up a bit and do the Thursday's jackets for a bit more money. That's good advice.

    Ebay has got to be the best source for used leather jackets. It's amazing how many "pre-owned" jackets you can find that are practically new and at a reasonable price, if not down right a steal. If you wear a common size like medium, large or 40 through 46, you will find more than you can deal with. I wear 2XL or 50 which is kind of limiting, but I still had a lot of luck finding my "leather treasures". If it turns out you don't like the jacket or the fit is wrong, many sellers will accept refunds or you can re-sell them and sometimes get more than you paid.

    You know... I always respect your reviews... but I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one, having owned a couple of Angel Jackets over the years. Sure, if you compare them to, say Schott or Vanson jackets, they obviously don't stack up. But compare these jackets with others in this pricepoint from fast fashion brands like H&M or Zara. Frankly, I think if you look at things that way, what Angel Jackets offers at $200 (depending on the style; the one you reviewed was particularly bad), is comparable or even a better value in some cases. I'm personally quite happy with my Officer K knockoff coat, in spite of the bad chemical smell it initially had. As bad and chemically treated as the leather is, I'd STILL take these any day over a cheap PVC or Patent Leather jacket for around the same price. So in my view... NOT highway robbery or a bait and switch, at the end of the day. You're getting a cheap knockoff, but at this pricepoint, you more or less know you're getting a cheap knockoff, so I'm okay with it.

    Good video. People should know about the companies trying to rip them off. A lot of the reason apparel you review doesn’t get bad ratings (less than, say, a “C”) is that the makers are trying to put out a good product aimed at a specific market. The question then becomes whether the item is a great product, a good one, or a mediocre one. Not everyone is going to spend a fortune on Iron Heart jeans, White’s boots, or Gaziano & Girling oxfords. They want an alternative in their budget. They should be forewarned that there are makers out there that just want to separate them from their hard earned money in exchange for a highly disposable piece of clothing. That’s worth a warning.

    My brother had a $40 suede jacket from a mall type leather shop that was about the same quality as this.

    It's a high quality stout and durable jacket but very plain and utilitarian so I had to add some personal touches to it.
    The secondary market is definitely the way to go.

    LOL, that's daniel modeling the jacket 😂..... This is the best review to find the best jacket and know how price compares to the quality of jacket..... I own 11 leather jackets most of them heritage and have been worn more than 30-50 years from relatives...... With half of that price you can get very good leather jackets in indonesia where i currently live... Really i better get faux jacket from hnm or zara 😂😂😂

    This is exactly how I felt when I finally purchased and reviewed and tried so badly to enjoy a five star leather jacket.. pure garbage. Same smell, feel and cheap leather but only more expensive, around $250! Don’t wast your money. You are way better off buying a vintage jacket from an eBay seller.

    I’ve also bought a leather jacket from Angle Jackets, it was beyond awful. Shipped from Pakistan, squished into a plastic bag, it stunk like plastic (an overpowering smell that never went away), the leather was awful and had a greasy feel to it, and the dye job was very poor as well. All these direct to consumer outlets are the same, as well as Angle jackets, avoid Feather Skin, The Jacket Maker, FJ jackets…I’ve had jackets from them all, they are beyond bad. I’ve learnt my lesson.

    To be honest, this review rubbed me the wrong way. Let me explain why.
    First of all I agree with all your points. I own quite a few leather jackets, from schott and vanson to luxury brands like Rick Owens and SLP. And I completely agree with the flaws presented. However, in the end, this is an incredibly condescending take on the matter. Of course you guys have your standards, but these standards and expected price to quality ratio are all consequences of being plugged into this community (of leather lovers, commonly found on reddit, youtube, styleforum) with a shared consensus of expectations for price to quality ratio. I am a part of this community as well. But these standards don't necessarily reflect the standards of where this jacket came from.
    To illustrate my point, imagine if in Italy, a couple of leather artisans got a schott delivered to their studio and started reviewing. They scoff at the loose grain, the disgusting polyester lining (whys it not a natural material like wool or cotton??? NASTY and intolerable!), and the uneven / not straight stitching. These are all very common issues in schott. Even in the ones I own. Then they proceed to say "fuck this thing" before stomping on it in the trash can. They say you can get a used Cucinelli for $1500 (just a little above the price of a schott) and calls the schott's flaws an affront to craftsmanship. All consequences of the expectations they have being plugged into their community of luxury goods. How would you guys feel?
    Realistically, this type of jacket is probably something a pakistani dude gets for like $100 after saving a ton. It's what their leather craftsmen are capable of. They've got their own standards and expectations that reach their own consensus based on what theyre capable of producing. I've been to bangalore (not pakistan but probably similar standards) on a trip, and just walked around seeing what leather goods were available. Even the more expensive higher end stuff (to them) are kind of like this.
    I think its fine to point out the flaws and to point out you can get better,, but to disrespect the jacket as in @11:40 is just rude, condescending and completely unaware of the fact that the standards you hold are just that - your standards. And not necessarily reflective of the standards of the region this jacket came from. Plus that cackling laugh. ulgh.

      I find it hard to disagree with this comment, as much as I like Troy and Nick as jacket and boot reviewers. While Troy did comment on the honest effort by someone in the production process to create something of value, it did get lost in the overall message imparted by the video. I think the review was a little over the top when the same message could have been delivered but in a more objectively critical way and less like a hot take to attract views.

    • @_bats_
      @_bats_ ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I find this comment more rude and condescending than the video, by far. Who are you to say that this jacket is reflective of what Pakistan's leather craftsmen are capable of?

    • @wills-ol3so
      @wills-ol3so ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@_bats_ yeah fair, it would be condescending if I was saying "this is all pakistani craftsmen are capable of" like youre suggesting. That is not what I said. Just like a schott isnt "all american craftsmen are capable of".

      @@wills-ol3so you literally said "it's what their leather craftsmen are capable of" and went on to talk about leather goods in Pakistan are of low quality based on your anecdotal experiences. Backpedal all you want, but the essence of what you're saying is that it's rude to criticize this jacket because Pakistani leather goods are poor quality because those are the standards there.

    First Manufacturing Company has good leather jackets in the $200-$300 range. I have one of their naked-cowhide leather shirts and it’s top quality. It will last for decades. They are made in Pakistan but by a real garment making company.
    Angels Leather seems to be somebody that is internet seller savvy. They are using run-of-the-mill garment workers in Pakistan that are just piecing together whatever leather they are given to make the jackets. It shouldn’t represent all of Pakistan.
