One thing that fascinates me in this one, is the way she alternates between left & right hands on the snare & hi hats. Effortlessly.

Thank you very much for your comments, with Yoyoka you will notice that the more complex the song is, the better it is. Plus Yoyoka has this ability to make a complex song really easy. She was invited by Narada Michael Walden himself to perform this song live.

You have really gone down the Yoyoka rabbit hole. Her ability to master complex drum pieces is what sets her apart from drummers twice her age. You’re right, she feels it.

Might I suggest Seven Days by Sting. Yoyoka covered this tune in her home studio as usual. She went to Fantasy Drum Camp in LA and played 7 days live with several pro musicians. She got a standing ovation! Worth a listen! Drummeo has tutorials on Seven Days and degree of difficulty is 9 out of 10! Cool tune!

@RockandRollRelic I just rewatched New Zealand drum teacher Andrew Rooney's breakdown of Yoyoka's performance of Fool in the Rain by Led Zeppelin. I've seen it a score of times and I never tire this guy expressing how tricky the song is to nail. The shuffle is very difficult and there's a amous samba breakdown about 3/4 thru the tune. Crazy@

She has great jazz chops in addition to rock music, and you’re right, she just seems to innately feel the music, which is why she is always in the pocket. Would like to see you react to some of her live performances with a band, where her professionalism shines. 😎👍

As mentioned by brother @chrisegbertky (below/above?) Seven Days is brilliant and one I used over and over again to test headphones due to her dad Aki's brilliant micing and mixing.
Seven Days was her hardest to learn (5-6 weeks) since her cover of Rush's YYZ (another brilliant cover she has performed live several times)

Starts in 4/4 for the main theme; the bridge is in 7/4; it returns 4/4 for Beck’s solo and a restatement of the theme, then back to 7/4 for the bridge and it remains in 7/4 for the remainder of the piece. It’s a pretty tame time signature relative to a lot of progressive jazz and fusion.

  • @DarrellW_UK
    @DarrellW_UK 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

Lead boots believe it or not is 4/4 timing, 116 bpm possibly double time!

@@RockandRollRelic Try this - The first part is in 4/4. the bridge and ending solo are in 7/8, the easiest way to track it is to listen closely to the riff. The verse riff is very distinctive and in 4/4.
When the song enters the 7/8 pattern, listen closely to the melody of the riff and let it guide you. It follows a pattern which you can hum thus: dum-dum duddle-de-dum do-dum do-dum dudle-de-dah (repeat) which is your 7/8.

She has an extraordinary sense of rhythm and time with an unimaginable talent, unique abilities, a wonderful musical sense and her divine ear make her unmatched, unattainable. In my humble opinion, in a few years she will surpass John Bonham of Led Zeppelin as a musical arranger

Another great choice. Here's Yoyoka playing this for the original drummer, Narada Michael Walden, at his charity event
_Jeff Beck - Led Boots (Live Cover) - Narada Michael Walden Foundation 27th Annual Holiday Jam 2023_
th-cam.com/video/YbMYSWlJe08/w-d-xo.html More recently the drumming genius Vinnie Colaiuta played Led Boots with Jeff Beck. Vinnie Colaiuta's drum composition for _Sting - Seven Days / Drum Covered by YOYOKA_ th-cam.com/video/0MGxV808ht8/w-d-xo.html is immaculate AFAICT polyrhythms in 5/4 and 4/4. Yoyoka plays so clean and light, it's easy to miss its sophistication.
_Vinnie Colaiuta explaining Sting's 'Seven Days' (re-upload)_ th-cam.com/video/qYwqDrP54qM/w-d-xo.html - the video doesn't match the audio. The video is just clips of Vinnie playing.
The recording on _Sting - Seven Days (Cover) / Jam at Drum Fantasy Camp in Los Angeles_ is just an iPad from the side. However, the response to her playing is wonderful. The bass player is Hagar Ben Ari who played bass for The Late Late Show band. The guitarist is extremely experienced session musician, and teacher, Vinny Valentino. Yoyoka said the awesome drummer Larnell Lewis complemented her afterwards (Larnell Lewis was one of the camp 'leaders'). AFAIK, Tower of Power's Dave Garibaldi was there as a leader too.
    Best Wishes. ☮
You _might_ be interested in Larnell Lewis showing how he learns songs:
_Larnell Lewis Hears A Song Once And Plays It Perfectly_ th-cam.com/video/vIW72VXMPHo/w-d-xo.html The title is misleading. What he does is far more interesting. The tune is jazz, and he listens to some parts twice.
_Larnell Lewis Hears "Enter Sandman" For The First Time_ th-cam.com/video/Zd_UcjMusUA/w-d-xo.html This is fun. Larnell does not play metal, at all.
Larnell Lewis is noted for playing on the studio recording of jazz ensemble _Snarky Puppy - We Like It Here_ th-cam.com/play/PL52RKVKBFM328OwddSMRQS9BYOA3oVDgl.html
He was approached a couple of days before the recording session when Snarky Puppy's regular drummer had visa issues, and couldn't get to the Netherlands studio. The drum parts of at least 6 songs were composed by Larnell.
Larnell 'learned' 8 songs, 2 before boarding the plane, then 6 on the 7½hour transatlantic flight. He and the rest of Snarky Puppy spent the next 4 days learning and rehearsing the songs during the day, with a live audience in-studio recording of (I assume) two songs each evening.
_Snarky Puppy - Shofukan (We Like It Here)_ th-cam.com/video/kk0WRHV_vt8/w-d-xo.html is a good introduction to what he composed.
This is a brief clip from a documentary about making that album:
_Snarky Puppy We Like It Here - Larnell Arrives_ th-cam.com/video/EvxN7wCjSis/w-d-xo.html is recorded after Larnell plays the first song, having just got off the transatlantic flight. Shaun Martin, has 7 Grammys, so when he tips, it really means something.
