I really appreciate taking MGT 630 course on Diversity & Inclusion in UMGC, Such an eye-opener. Learning every day about cultural differences and how to manage situations better in a multilevel culturally diverse team.

Hi ! I just saw your scintillating talk, 3 years later, in India, in the time of the virus that has made all of us sit at home away from our co-workers and I cannot describe the goosebumps I feel listening to you say all this THEN ! Speaking of multiple cultures, India itself as you know is a mini continent and I have had the luck of working the East, West, North and South and English takes very different meanings and nuances in each part. Why English ? A simple nod is interpreted differently. Working in the South you find people agreeing to you my making a motion as it they are marking a tick across a paper in front of them with an invisible pen in their mouth- side to side movement. In the West at a Head Office meeting I subconsciously was doing that, agreeing to my superior when he got irritated and said, " First LISTEN to what I am saying"...As I analysed this on my way out it struck me...that same side wards head motion meant NO in the West and North of the country ! ( And I have spent all my life here ! SO you just nailed it with the cross cultural points

I became remote during Covid-19 with the company having a lot of reluctant attitudes towards it feeling that productivity and accountability would be uncontrollable It has proven to be the opposite. I also like the sections "it not easy" and "Loneliness"

This video is 6 year old, when remote working was not so popular. Personally, I didn't learn much from this. In the beginning the focus is on different cultures. I have worked in different cultures and the first thing I learn is the language even if they have my native language, so I am sure I am being understood by localsm. The use of the word "but", for example. In the end, what I understood is the he implies that presencial work is better. Now, I am going to get that book, he showed.

I was hearing for 10 minutes and I did not find any lesson related with how to work efficiently and meaningfully with different cultures. He gave a lot of examples of misunderstandings related to working with different cultures, yet He did not make any recommendation.

This "Just now" expression from South Africa is very similar to the Brazilian one "5 minutes"

We got the '5 minutes' in our culture too. Mom: "Can you please stop playing the game?" Kid; "Just 5 more minutes!"

For God`s sake, for the millionth time - Africa is not a country!!!!!! So you will rather cite Los Angeles and other USA cities than saying in which country in Africa you were? Sorry but it doesnt make me want to continue watching your video.

Quite a good speech, but I find it suprising that he uses "killing it" which is American slang used by younger people in informal settings. I would never say that professionally and especially an international team.
