    The all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer is a small SUV that is bigger then the Chevrolet Trax but smaller than the Equinox. The small SUV category is the fastest growth area for sales and this new sub-compact utility competes with the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX30, Nissan Kicks and Subaru Crosstrek to name a few. This new Chevy Trailblazer is unique due to the 1.3L Turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, 9-speed automatic transmission and solid power and torque. The base engine is also a turbo 1.2L 3-cylinder with 137hp. All models with AWD get the larger engine with 155hp and 174lb.-ft. of torque. The size of this new small SUV is closest to the Kia Seltos and is on the larger side for this class. All models in Canada come with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto along with a wireless charging pad for cell phones. Infotainment screen sizes start at 7-inches and there is an optional 8-inch unit. All Trailblazer vehicles come with standard wifi hotspot and OnStar connectivity. The Trailblazer small utility is the only vehicle in this class to come with an available power lift gate. The all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer is built in Korea and is sold as an L base model, LS with available AWD, the RS model seen here, plus an off-road looking version called Activ.

    LOVE that you are a Canadian auto channel, I have found that its hard to relate US price and features when doing research before buying a new vehicle. The subtle humor and puns (if you meant them as) are fantastic. "every one loves inches", "everyone loves a Hummer" Keep up the great work.

    2 years later, I still think Chevy has a winner with this offer. I know Zack and Andrea can't live without a power lift gate anymore, but I can't stand them most of the time (anybody who regularly has 12' 2X4s to carry around, like me, will agree). Now, Chevy did something clever: a simple and accessible button to deactivate the power lift gate when you want it to shut its mouth even if there's something in the way. Why, O, why don't carmakers ALL do this? It's simple, effective, easy to use. Kudos Chevy, very good idea.
    The other goodie I love in the Trailblazer is the possibility to fold down completely the front passenger seat. For a skier and a kayak enthusiast like me, big win.

    This a compelling buy... everything works except the gas milage. That's something not great but not super terrible. I think it's safe to get the best warranty for engine and transmission for peace of mind.... skip the cvt for the best experience.

  • @TheMirageowner
    @TheMirageowner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great Review. At first blush, the spec sheet for this car seems like a mismatch. However, it seems like GM really did their homework and created a compelling car in this popular segment. I do believe that the LS model with the 1.2L/fwd with be a easy volume seller .Also for context GM is getting the same HP numbers as the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross with a smaller 3 cylinder engine. The exterior styling is very well done and GM's interiors continue to improve (not class leading but definitely intuitive and useful). I love the passenger front folding seat (ala Pontiac Vibe/ Toyota Matrix) that definitely helps with transporting larger items.

    I’m surprised by this review. I was not too excited to hear about ‘another’ GM smaller S/CUV. But I kinda like this. And having recently looked at Buick’s SUV pricing (Enclave and lessers), this new Trailblazer... at the less than $30 grand price point seems to be a great value. I have to give the General credit on this point alone. Plus, the styling looks competitive. Thanks for the video, guys.

I'm an average consumer thinking about replacing my Chevy Cruze for a bigger car with better traction (I'm petite so I can't see well out of a lot of sedans) and I get overwhelmed watching car reviews with too much technical talk only car junkies could understand. Chevy got it right with the styling, size, features, and price.
    The 1.3L 3-cylinder “torque monster” could be a headache out of warranty.
    I wouldn’t mind driving it as a rental car.

    • @bobshanery5152
      @bobshanery5152 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It drives good for the most part. You dont notice a lack of power but I wouldn't take this thing off road.
      It has more interior room then most its size. Very roomy. Oh and the front passenger seat folds down.. Nice little feature.
      I personally rather not be a test subject for the new 3 cylinder engines. I remember these things years ago being awful which is why they stopped making them. Odd Chevy brought one back. Even more odd that the Trailblazer does not get any better mpg compared to its 4 cylinder competition. You would think a smaller engine would see some advantage in mpg but not here. Don't get the point of it.

    I don't want to a wimpy HVAC system, thanks.

    • @ChrisPollard
      @ChrisPollard 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If it’s anything like the 1.5L Turbo in the Equinox, the HVAC should be pretty good. Air was ice cold in the summer, and the heat has been a most pleasant surprise. It starts throwing hot air in the cab faster than the 5.0L V8 in my C1500. We haven’t had it in anything colder than -10 yet, but it heats up very quickly. I’d credit it to a combination of electronic thermostat that routes warm coolant to the cabin first and a water jacketed exhaust manifold that pulls heat out of the exhaust as well. Now ask me how I feel about the idea of ever having to change that exhaust manifold ... or if it should develop a crack one day and start leaking coolant. Some days I really just like the old simple cars we had. Something out of the 60s is still my sweet spot. LOL

    Nice job Chevy... looks good and seems like good value to take on Seltos...I like the red accents as well. Too bad it has loose steering feel, but aside from Mazda, I’ve found that seems to be a common trait with a lot of SUVs. Heck, even my Ram 1500 has better steering feel than a lot of SUVs!

    • @IntothewestOkotoks
      @IntothewestOkotoks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, on second look at the pricing, it seems the Kia Turbo loaded is under $35k (with freight/PDI), and the Chev is $35k+ but seems to offer a few other options (heated rear seats/vented front seats, and a large 10.25” screen for example)...however, as I’d be interested in finding the lowest priced mini SUV (not too mini though like CX-3) for my teenage son to also drive in the next couple years, one option I repeatedly see in GM vehicles is Teen Driver (I think Ford has MyKey?). How useful is this feature, and do other manufacturers like Kia or Subaru (thinking Crosstrek) offer those? It’d be great if you guys did a review of what vehicles you’d think are best for teen drivers - and we live in Alberta, so AWD is a must :-)

    Disappointing fuel economy from the 3 cylinder. I have the larger Equinox with the 1.5L turbo, and we are CONSISTENTLY getting 7.1 to 7.4l/100km on the highway with AWD in ‘auto’. With AWD locked on, about 7.8 highway. It’s very much surprised us, since it was only rated for 8.0 highway. We’ll break 12,000km on it next week, after about 11 weeks of ownership. (It does just over 200km/day commuting ... which is what we bought it for. Warranty sure isn’t going to last long at this rate!)

    My wife has a 2020 Buick Encore GX. When I drive it, I turn off the " lane keep assist " feature (pushbutton near AWD switch) . The electric power steering is light but quite accurate. With the lane keep assist on it ping-pongs the car between the lane markers, feels very vague and it's always correcting, it seems. It feels artificial. My suggestion for buyers of this vehicle is to disable the feature to obtain a much better driving experience. Cheers from MI USA

      Dang, you’re talking $35,000 for the RS AWD with HST in Ontario. There is no way I’m willing to part with that kind of money for a small Chevy Blazer. The HST tacks on an extra $4500, nevermind dealer fees etc.! US dealers will discount a lot more than Canadian ones and there’s not near the tax. Where I just moved from (South Carolina) the tax is 6% and capped at $300 for a new or used car!! In Canada they get you comin and goin’. Needless to say I’m moving back to the states once the pandemic is over.

    The Trailblazer & Blazer look to be ok but seem like huge missed opportunities for a real off-road SUV return considering their historical competitor Ford Bronco is making a huge comeback. The SUV trend is fine but cramming SUV/CUVs in every nook and cranny looks to be overkill - especially when Chevy has a bevy of models that seem to “duplicate efforts” in segments.
