I had no idea you could customize the Action Button with Shortcuts and make it super powerful! This was super helpful and I cannot wait to try this out! You can technically do both they have scripting options. When I turn on my office light it actually calls up another shortcut that then calls a website that then turns on my non-homekit lights

For some reason this doesn't work on all AWUs. For some people the shortcuts don't sync with the iPhone through iCloud, the shortcuts option does not appear in AWU action button menu no matter what is done. I spent at least 20 hours trying to figure out how to get the shortcuts option to appear in the AWU action button menu. Tried everything suggested by many people, nothing worked. (Yes i did click on the "Show on Apple Watch" ). After trying for so long, i suspect there is a "Shortcuts-iCloud sync" bug for those people who at some point deleted shortcuts data from iCloud. For me, whenever i open my shortcuts app on iPhone i always get an on screen notification that looks like the following iCloud Shortcut Deleted You have recently deleted your Shortcuts data from iCloud. Would you like to continue syncing shortcuts to iCloud? The notification also appears when i unlock the iPhone, they actually pile up if i keep locking and unlocking the iPhone. So i have to dismiss the notification one after the other

Is it annoying that the action button is opposite of the multitasking and Apple Pay button? it looks super easy to do an accidental two button push, which I would find problematic since I use the multitasking button all the time on the series 7.
I have the Apple Watch ultra but when I go to the action button setting on my watch I don’t have the shortcuts option. Even though it’s downloaded on my phone and watch. Is there a way to enable it?
That’s weird. I would try deleting the shortcut app and then restarting the devices (phone and watch). Then reinstalling it and maybe able another restart after that if need be. Something software wise is def stuck.
Go into the shortcuts app on your iPhone. Tap the 3 dots on the shortcut. Then tap the (i) at the bottom then make sure Show on Apple Watch is turned on. After that hit done, then done again. Give it a few seconds and it should start showing up on the watch.
Thats very odd. Maybe try deleting the shortcut app on the phone and reinstalling and see if that fixes anything. It may not but that would be the first thing I would try if I were you.
Can you help in creating a list of three action shortcuts to choose from like open music app, open workout app etc. by pressing the action button out of which I can then select to run a shortcut?

Just upgraded to the Ultra and I love this video. I wonder if there is a way to activate the siren automatically if fall detection triggers. That would be really useful. Before I got a a series 4, due to health issues, I passed out at night outside my shop entrance and just passed the visual range of the door. So no one saw me laying there. The siren would have been very beneficial. Oh and I was okay, just some scrapes. Looked worse than it was. I haven't seriously tried short cuts in years but this is something I have to look into.
Yeah I haven’t heard it if does or not I know the a siren is played if you trigger the call 911 button. As it’s being triggered. That would be cool if it did and I agree and think it should.
Have you found a way to still use `precison start`when starting a workout via a shortcut? As far as i can figure out, the shortcut immediatly starts the workout.. Thanks!
Sadly no that seems to be action button only. With the shortcut you have to have the countdown tapping the watchface will skip the countdown. But it is another step.
Can you help me? I am trying to create a shortcut that gets some info, turns it into text and then Appends it to a note in my notes app (the built in Apple one). The shortcut works great on my iPhone but on my Watch it doesnt. Is it possible to make the Watch Append text to a note or am I out of luck?
@@TheAppleBias I’m just trying to get it to get the date, time and battery level and then save it to a note so that I can plot it on a graph. I have got it working with reminders at the moment. It’s not as easy to copy-paste data across but there’s not that much data anyway so it’s working well. Strange that I couldn’t get it to work with the notes app though.
I don’t believe we could do a second action with shortcuts. But the launch an app is easy. I still think it you just doing a single app launch I would just use the other side button set it up as favorite and put the apps you want as the top items.
I have been trying to get my nest Yale smart lock to work with remote but haven’t found the way yet. I can open the Nest app but then stuck 😂. Please let me know if you have any idea
Sorry I’ve never messed with the nest does it work with HomeKit at all? If not I know the nest thermostats can be work with it with a homebrydge setup. So that Mae be something to look into. I haven’t messed with that either though but I bet TH-cam has a tint of content about it.

Time yes. I have an option in the email for that changes what it does based on the time. I bet there is a way to change it based on focus mode as well.

Not heard of wiz lights. If they are HomeKit connected it’s pretty easy. Otherwise it may take a bit. To get my govee lights working I actually build some backend code so it basically calls a loads a webpage when I turn those off and on.

In the morning I turned the lights on thru my phone or Alexa. It be easy to push the action button to do it. Is there a way to upload screenshots?
Can you set a shortcut that check the calendar app first. And if a event is happening it. Would allow you to run a certain shortcut action during that event?

If you use sleep mode it should go to the red mode by default. But sadly they don’t let you set it any other way. The email will get you the info on how to set it up.

Red mode is only available in Cinema Mode. I programmed a shortcut to turn the flashlight red with the action button; //Turn on cinema mode// Turn torch on // Turn cinema mode off// Works great!
Nice yeah that right. I forgot it was cinema and not sleep. I used to use cinema/theater mode for when I slept before the sleep feature got better. Love that addition tho to get it red. Very cool.
Do you know if it’s possible to make a shortcut for intercom? Example: Apple Watch ultra and the new button. Click that and it prompts the watch to intercom to a specific room to then relay a message?

Have you tried to setup a shortcut for the music app. I tried to setup a shortcut to Simple’s shuffle all the songs in my music library. I can run it on my phone and it work fine but if I try ti run it from my watch it won’t work. Other shortcuts work but I can’t get anything music related to work as a shortcut on the watch.

Sadly they don’t give us that option. Since the setup of the shortcuts are all done on the phone the app launching shortcut doesn’t show watch only apps which is a pain since that’s what the workout and a few others are.
I started with the plugs their pretty inexpensive. And then you just build up over time. Prime day and Black Friday is usually when I add more smarts to my home.

I also started to configure the button like you several weeks ago and ended up with kinda problem: I chose to start a pickup menu for controlling smart home scenes when it’s between 4 and 12pm. After selecting the proper scene I would like to go back to the watchface - like nothing happened. Instead the screen stays at the shortcut app. Do you have any idea how to get this work? 😃
Yeah should have mentioned that in the video. Sorry. On the watch app on the phone. Go to General -> Return to Clock -> Shortcuts set it as custom and select Always. Once the shortcut has ran and you’ve put your wrist down even for a second it will return to the watch face.
@@TheAppleBias yep I can say “Siri Unlock the Front door” and it opens. I can also open the home app and tap it, but pressing the action button like you’re doing would be awesome. I just can’t put the short cut together logically
Was the recording option in or of the files? I may need to update that I was using it wrong at first. I ended up changing it to launch the voice memo app.
Very true I do have a video on a different way to sleep track where you use shortcut automation to trigger theater mode and use a 3rd party sleep tracking app. That would allow the action to still work and in theater mode it will be a red light which could be better for you at night.

Hey! For some reason the shortcut doesn’t work for me and I subscribed to the email for the shortcut! Any idea why this wouldn’t be working? I have it setup the same just removed some settings.
I am no expert but from my initial test it just triggers it on the device that activated the shortcut. So if tan from the phone it does it on the phone if on the watch it does it on the watch.
Can you create a shortcut to open Shazam app on watch OS that does save or open the song directly on you phone. There are a couple of shortcuts in the gallery but they ask to save to your Apple Music or open and play the song. I just want it to open and reveal the song and store the Shazam song in iCloud like the normal Shazam app does on each device (watch, phone, or iPad).
As far as opening the app. That may could be done by using the scripting option that will give you an option to launch an app and Shazam should be an option. After it launches it should work just as if you opened it by tapping the app icon from the app launch screen.

The shortcut app should be preinstalled unless it was uninstalled at some point but if you swipe down to search in spotlight and type shortcuts if it doesn’t appear there then you should be able to find it in the App Store.
You have to create a dummy switch and turn that on with the automation and make the dummy switch unlock the lock because apple doesn’t want the door to be automated based on location for security reasons
In the shortcut app on your phone hit the 3 dots on the shortcut. Then hit the i at the bottom middle after that make sure the show on Apple Watch is ticked on. And hit the done and done again. Probably give it a minute to sync and then check again and it should be there.
I don't understand why you just don't go into detail on time action button. But instead you try to weasel people and ask kfor their email . Not cool. Waste of people time.
I’m sorry you see it that way the process to setup the time one is probably the most complex. I try to show a bit of how it works. I honestly haven’t done anything with the email other than just go in every so often and just delete the ones of the people that have opted out. My only plan for the videos is to eventually be able to share a even more detailed Watch tutorial to people.

Yeah the files from the email will get you close to that. I had another guy that wanted that one as well. Should be easy to do if you need help and have instagram it’s a bit easier to communicate through there.

I tried to make it as informative to those that didn’t understand what it was or how it worked and felt like I got the whole thing down and too the point as quickly as possible. Such a great video and I had to subscribe to this TH-camr (I rarely do). As seen from other people’s comments earlier, I asked him via IG as he suggested, to create a shortcut that could disable Water Lock using the Action Button and he promptly did it for me. Fantastic.
Thanks for the kind words man and happy I was able to help with the water lock. Still wish it worked a little better but glad it solved the majority of the issue I may have to try something similar myself with the sleep tracking face.

Awesome video. It gave me the idea of how to make one where it checks the focus mode instead of the watch face.
That’s a great idea too. There is just so much you can do with all this.
Same concept but create a nested shortcut with different actions linked to different focus modes. Only other way to do this that I could think of.
So the action takes on different actions based on the focus mode? That wouldn’t be to hard too setup.

Allocated "Just Press Record" App to the Ultra 1 Action Button. Now have a mini Dictation device. Took a bit of effort to set up.

From what I see right now intercom isn’t supported in shortcuts. Hopefully they add it eventually. That sounds like an awesome usecase.

Sadly watchOS only apps don’t seem to be accessible in shortcuts. Hopefully that gets corrected soon. I have filed feedback with Apple.

I started with the plugs their pretty inexpensive. And then you just build up over time. Prime day and Black Friday is usually when I add more smarts to my home.

Hey Brian, great video and thanks for this awesome hint with the watchface! I also started to configure the button like you several weeks ago and ended up with kinda problem: I chose to start a pickup menu for controlling smart home scenes when it’s between 4 and 12pm. After selecting the proper scene I would like to go back to the watchface - like nothing happened. Instead the screen stays at the shortcut app.
Do you have any idea how to get this work? 😃
Yeah should have mentioned that in the video. Sorry. On the watch app on the phone. Go to General -> Return to Clock -> Shortcuts set it as custom and select Always. Once the shortcut has ran and you’ve put your wrist down even for a second it will return to the watch face.

I'm having trouble finding the unlock door action , it's not in the download link and trying to add it on my own none of it seem logical
To make it work your smart lock needs to support HomeKit or have an app that supports shortcuts. The lock I have is the Level Lock
@@TheAppleBias yep I can say “Siri Unlock the Front door” and it opens. I can also open the home app and tap it, but pressing the action button like you’re doing would be awesome. I just can’t put the short cut together logically
You just need to select the Control Our Home option and select the lock inside there and it should give you a state to set it to lock or unlock.
Where does the audio recording save to? Do I need to download the recording app?
Was the recording option in or of the files? I may need to update that I was using it wrong at first. I ended up changing it to launch the voice memo app.

Action button for torch doesn’t work in sleep mode
Yeah you have to take it out of sleep mode first. I feel like that is a nice feature cause I wouldn’t want to turn it on in my sleep by accident.

Very true I do have a video on a different way to sleep track where you use shortcut automation to trigger theater mode and use a 3rd party sleep tracking app. That would allow the action to still work and in theater mode it will be a red light which could be better for you at night.

Is there a way to go further into your shortcut by having a set of sequences for weekdays and then set of sequences for weekends?
Yeah I am sure you can probably set it to perform a different action on each day of the week.

Hey! For some reason the shortcut doesn’t work for me and I subscribed to the email for the shortcut! Any idea why this wouldn’t be working? I have it setup the same just removed some settings.
Which shortcut did you go with. And did it work before you removed things?

Do you know of a way to reduce/remove the animation / delay time after pressing the action button?
In the setting under accessibility you can turn on reduces motion. But it will eliminate animations from everywhere not sure the shortcut action.
Is there a way to have a shortcut on the watch that disables Wi-Fi on my phone.
I am no expert but from my initial test it just triggers it on the device that activated the shortcut. So if tan from the phone it does it on the phone if on the watch it does it on the watch.

Can you create a shortcut to open Shazam app on watch OS that does save or open the song directly on you phone. There are a couple of shortcuts in the gallery but they ask to save to your Apple Music or open and play the song. I just want it to open and reveal the song and store the Shazam song in iCloud like the normal Shazam app does on each device (watch, phone, or iPad).
As far as opening the app. That may could be done by using the scripting option that will give you an option to launch an app and Shazam should be an option. After it launches it should work just as if you opened it by tapping the app icon from the app launch screen.

Yeah you can use HomeKit with phone and watch. This just make things faster so you don’t have to pull your phone out of your pocket.

Make sure you have the shortcut app on your phone. And then you’ll need to make sure you have some listed for the Apple Watch. Then it should appear.

The shortcut app should be preinstalled unless it was uninstalled at some point but if you swipe down to search in spotlight and type shortcuts if it doesn’t appear there then you should be able to find it in the App Store.
create an unlock door shortcut and then create a home automation that calls that shortcut when you arrive home. Then you won’t need to press anything.
You have to create a dummy switch and turn that on with the automation and make the dummy switch unlock the lock because apple doesn’t want the door to be automated based on location for security reasons
I don’t mind hitting the button. Cause sometimes I come how to get something out of the garage and don’t want the door to unlock.

man can’t add shortcuts on the action button
In the shortcut app on your phone hit the 3 dots on the shortcut. Then hit the i at the bottom middle after that make sure the show on Apple Watch is ticked on. And hit the done and done again. Probably give it a minute to sync and then check again and it should be there.

I don't understand why you just don't go into detail on time action button. But instead you try to weasel people and ask kfor their email . Not cool. Waste of people time.
I’m sorry you see it that way the process to setup the time one is probably the most complex. I try to show a bit of how it works. I honestly haven’t done anything with the email other than just go in every so often and just delete the ones of the people that have opted out. My only plan for the videos is to eventually be able to share a even more detailed Watch tutorial to people.
@@TheAppleBias terrific, I was wondering if you can have the shortcut available so people can just cut and paste and added to their shortcut. A simple workout action during the day and flashlight at night.
Yeah the files from the email will get you close to that. I had another guy that wanted that one as well. Should be easy to do if you need help and have instagram it’s a bit easier to communicate through there.

Such a great video and I had to subscribe to this TH-camr (I rarely do). As seen from other people’s comments earlier, I asked him via IG as he suggested, to create a shortcut that could disable Water Lock using the Action Button and he promptly did it for me. Fantastic.
Thanks for the kind words man and happy I was able to help with the water lock. Still wish it worked a little better but glad it solved the majority of the issue I may have to try something similar myself with the sleep tracking face.
