Just found Billy's channel. I own two Harbor Freight electric chain saws. I know even I laugh at that. My slowest cutting has tooth link, link, link, tooth. It is like an old man like me with not all their teeth. My other chan saw was twice the price and has tooth, link, link, tooth. It is pretty slow. Anyway I sharpened both and what a difference. Thank you Billy!!
Thanks Richard and you too plus everyone else. Buckin, I want to take a sec to thank you for doing what you do. Your videos have helped me and so many others to be able to make our lives safer when dealing with problem trees.
Wow, zippidy rippidy doo da with the nice sharp chain...camera work looks super clear, love the intro, love the voice over, love the Buckin Army of peace. 🌱🪶
Love this channel and can’t wait to file my rancher 455 or my 390, what a great thing to come home from work teaching my grade 7 class and find a new video waiting for me! My three own kids see me practising what you preach, whether it’s sharpening or tuning saws, taking problem trees down at our shack in jordan river, or just being kind to strangers. Thanks for the inspiration and loving community, BBR! Joji, Victoria, BC
Hi BR Good handfiling is the bottom known of an good woodcutter in anyways! Thank you to share your experience with the all the people who wants to learn something needful. 💪 I love to be here, on your channel. Thank you very much! To all people here! Best regards, Dirk
got the ol 395xp out today buckin 36in bar its an oll production logging saw no chain brake 95% its been ported and its a monster !! love you Buckin keep up the good content 👍❤
I was cutting some thick Locust here in eastern NC today. That wood dulls a chain quick! I was using my 550xpMk2 I bought last year. It’s a beast for a 50cc saw. I had to stop to sharpen 3x today. 😁
You know your message of proper sharpening education is spreading when..... Mrs Bradley happens to come up behind me as I'm watching this video. She can't hear anything, as I have my earbuds in. However, she looks at the moment in the video where you were pointing out a tooth that needs a lot of work. She proudly commented..."That tooth does not look good at all!" Love you all...❤️❤️❤️ Lieutenant Bradley
When i started to hand file, I watched and learn many filing tutorials and tips but i couldn't get a perfect result because i didn't tighten the bar enough. Just a little wobble during filing makes a huge difference. Hope this helps someone new like i was. Btw Billy, that saw cut like hot knife through butter. Just beautiful to watch
Your an awesome Teacher my friend! I just bucked up some hard maple with a fresh sharpened chain used all the skills you share with us and I'm not kidding it was the best cutting chain I have ever ran used or new! It was a pleasure thanks BBR!!! take care
Once you get to run a big bar like that with full 3/8 full chisel full house chain you never want to go back! I tried a 36" bar on my little 34cc ported Poulan 2150 with an iron horse exhaust and that's all I want to use now lol That chain is addictive when you start throwing the big chips. 😎
I've sharpened alotta 3/8 wit 3/16 file its been all i had b4. Or all the saw shop had in stock was 3/16. As u know.u gotta roll on when loggin. So ive been in that spot a few times. Have a good weekend sir.
You can use a 3/16 on a 3/8 lp(picco in still brand). Ots not so much about the size as understanding what the cutter should look like in order to perform well with your cutting style, saw, and wood. A chain should be tuned to those things for maximum performance or to last longer in dirty/frozen wood.
I always love your filing videos !!! Will ever forget standing shoulder to shoulder with you at Buckin' Stock while you sat on a log filing :) LOVE WINS BE KIND
I just got a Holzfforma G660. An I cut a little bit with it. It cut ok. Just ok. Not what I think a new chain should cut. So when I got home. I bragged my file. An seen right off that the chain was not excepting my file properly. It had no gullet. Must be a square grind. Gullet is straight. With what I call a beek at the top. So I did exactly what you are showing. To file a proper gullet in it. But my Stihl files dont file as quick as your files seem to. I worked my tail off. Please tell us where we can get good files like yours. I have learned so much from you. More than just filing. I love you Buckin. An I'm not afraid to say it. Please never stop spreading the message.
We love watchin this channel. Keeps a smile on I our face. Buckin, we have Johnsared power saws. Have not seen one on your channel, do you have an opinion? Blessings, friend.
I wish you would make a video on choosing the right size file to use. How do you determine what size file to use. You go over how to sharpen a chain but not most importantly which size file to use. Can you make a video of how to determine what size file to use. Have different size saws and go over how to determine what size file to use for each saw.
How do you avoid poison ivy, and how would you suggest dealing with it on your saw after having cut a ton of it. Thanks for all your videos, and sharing your knowledge. You make saws fun friend.
HELP PLEASE....Hello buckin you helped me get into business for my self and now I've got my biggest job yet and I really need some advice on how to bid this job I've got nobody to ask I'm fairly new to this area
How many other people are interested in more sharpening videos of 3/8Lp? These are the chains I have the most trouble with. 3/8 and .325, i can almost always sharpen them to put brand new chains to shame, so much so that whenever i have time, i will redo a brand new chain right out of the box. 3/8Lp, i'm still a bit hit or miss with.
Think this has to do more with the type of chain than rather the size. I have an old Stihl 180 and a 193T that use the P (Pico) chain and it's simply a different type than for example the RS chains that can be used on a 3/8 and .325. And for the record: I file a nasty RS chain that does a wicked job, but also in my case the P chains are somehow... less, or how ever you want to name it. The type of chain simply is less sharp, but is way more forgiving than an RS when you hit something or cut into some dirt.
@@gerritvanwilligen By type, are you referring to full-chisel vs semi-chisel? Full chisels come to a square corner where the meet the side plate, and semi's come to a rounded corner where they meet the side plate. I can file both full and semi's to perform noticeably better than out of the box when they are 3/8 or .325.
@@nate2838 I'm not a native speaker and not too familiar with all the terms, but you are right: I meant the difference in square and rounded. But that's not the issue apparently 😀
That's surprises me, I've seen some very poorly sharpened picco chain that still cut well. I have a video on my channel from last summer or the one before where I fixed athe chain on an ms192, I talk about what I was going to do to it/what it needed, but don't show me filing (no room on phone at the time). It's basically the same principles as with a larger chain, you have to know what you want the cutters to look like when they are sharp in order to know how to file them. You are setting the rakers on them?
@@brettblack7049 Typically yes. The trouble i've often had with picco is it hooks to easily. i find the 5/32 file too small, and the 3/16 a little too large until its been filed a couple times, it wont fit between the tooth and the raker.
Yeah, i love Buckin, he's a fierce warrior, i know that grit, dust and particulates are easily floated into the eyes. I carry eye wash wherever i go. Working overhead you can't avoid it. But Buckin and working on the ground there is the safety squint. 😑 It's not 100% effectual but it's what we do. I have more goggles and eyewear than the average bear...🤓
Some engines " kickback " when stopping. This can put stress on the starter pawls etc. Also the starter cord gets rubbed, jerked against recoil housing & fibres weakened, damaged. Having the handle pulled out, allows the shock, force to be absorbed, dissipated in a more controlled manner. A lot of vintage equipment, parts are getting harder to source. So try to minimise the risk of damage. An easy habit to adopt for all recoil start equipment, could save a lot of time, money in repairs
I don't get how you remove so much material with a single swipe of the file. Even on a brand new file straight out of the box I can never get that much material coming off.
I don’t run a saw or swing axes, but I still come here everyday because the message is so good!
