I imagine HL:A would've revitalized Valve's confidence in making games after such a long drought of nothing (and Artifact) for years, I'd expect to see them making more games if anything. I don't mean to say I expect them to throw Half-Life 3 or Half-Life: Barney out the door any time soon, but there's probably a group in the offices considering how to move forward with the franchise if not already working on something.

Projects and demos tested and played around with, all just to test the waters, but it'll be a long wait before they dive again.

This is the exact ability I gave Barney in a roleplay I'm in. He just multiplies at random and is a hivemind. He likes to donate hundreds of his bodies to science, just for fun.

When i played HL:Alyx I legitimately thought it was going to be barney that we freed from the prison. I did start having my doubts once I actually got inside the floating thing but until then all i had to go on was that he was one of the people to get out of black mesa. Since i knew Gordon was with the Gman i assumed it must be barney, especially since he hadn’t shown up in the game yet, and tbh it would just have been a funny twist.
