    There's a story in the Bible with Moses and him having 12 "spies" and being more like scouts for the promised land. So with mandalore being the promised land and taking it back, the scouring party had 12 that came with bo. So it could be that interpretation of spies as to why there was no traitor reveals.

Glad to see Grogu becoming a true Mandalorian, saved Mando a few times this episode and finally fought side by side with his official father and they crushed it. Moses sends spies (scouts really) into Canaan, and they come back and denounce the plan to settle in Israel, because it was too dangerous. In the end the ones who spoke out got punished, and the ones who stood with Moses were rewarded
      Not religious, but I grew up with it lol

    • @inefekt
      @inefekt ปีที่แล้ว

      Unlikely. That was just some website's guesswork and everyone has picked up on it. The reference is likely to the remaining Imperial factions as a whole....spies don't act alone, they work for spy organisations who are mostly government run and since the Imperials were once the governing body of the Empire and Moff is still clearly working for the Empire and Elia Kane is already established as being one of the spies of that episode it would naturally lead to Moff being the other. You don't have to be running around all spy-like to be a spy, you can lead other spies who do the running around and still be a spy yourself. So people are just reaching for answers that aren't there when it's pretty obvious what the reference is towards.
      Also, all the other episodes had very obvious references in their titles so why would this one have some vague biblical reference? It's not like they put too much thought into the entire season as it is, they essentially winged it thinking that we would lap up anything they put out so, again, why would they suddenly decide to think deeply about a simple episode title???

It wouldn’t of been if they named the last two episodes accordingly. “the spies” indicated there was more than one spy rather than just the imperial girl which is what it turned out to be… the “the return” was loosely based on the return to mandalore rather than the return of someone like everyone expected. Overall it was a great episode but the titles of the last two had me waiting for further things that never came. That’s my only complaint with the episode

    • @TheeWandaStan
      @TheeWandaStan ปีที่แล้ว

      this season was very straight forward. there wasn’t any crazy cameos accept for Zeb and a few celebrities. “the spies” is a biblical reference and “the return” was only ever a reference to retaking mandalore. thrawn and ahsoka were never going to show up this season, you’ll have to wait until august for that.

    So don't have enough fuel to chase the giant bird, but they do have enough fuel to fly from the surface of mandalore all the way to space?!
    Mando said the darksaber hilt was made of beskar in book of boba Fett episode 5.
    But moff Gideon crushed it like it was nothing.
    Let's not forget how Gideon let Mando mess around in the clone room.
    He was tracking Mando the whole time. He knew where Mando was.

    • @reaIixx
      @reaIixx ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well Mando's group was living in a cave so they may not have had as great of access to resources like fuel, so its entirely possible they did not have a full tank. Mandalore may also have a smaller atmosphere, not every planet, even habitable ones, will have exactly the same characteristics as Earth. Also, although they appear to be in space, we saw in Episode 7 that the fleet was hovering in the upper atmosphere and not actually in space, which is further confirmed by the fact that Axe is able to breath as he approaches the light cruiser.

    Tales of the Jedi Season 2 has been announced and will be released next year in 2024.
    The term "spy" has been misinterpreted. Spy can mean scout. Which was what the Mandalorians who said, "I will go" were spies. All those theories about who "the spy" was that were being uploaded to TH-cam had me laughing because it seems like in our modern culture, most people don't realize the other ways the word spy can be used and I felt like I was one of the rare few who understood that.

    • @aaronboone8097
      @aaronboone8097 ปีที่แล้ว

      @the_nikster1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaronboone8097 well it does fit since a couple of the titles this season were religious in nature (The Apostate, The Convert, etc…). also the titles tend to have double meanings so it’s likely that was the case for this episode too. our Mandalorians spied the remnants of Mandalore and Elia Kane and Moff Gideon were spies infiltrating the New Republic. not that complicated.

      No, people are reaching and trying to sound intellectual when all they are doing is referencing some website who guessed what the reference might be. It's pretty clearly Elia Kane and Moff working together to infiltrate and take down the New Republic from within. The entire season had ep titles which were very obvious, why would this be any different? And it's not like they put a lot of thought into the writing this series, thinking we would just love it because it's Star Wars, so why would they put a lot of thought into a simple episode title?

    I feel the episode before this was titled oddly. "The Spies" was simply referring to the Imperial spy that we saw in the first 5 minutes of the episode. Thats it. They could have called it like "The Retaking" or something more accurate. It got us thinking that there was someone among the Mandalorians that was gonna turn out to be a spy, and thats clearly not the case. And i'm sure Gideon is finally dead, I'm sure Bo Katan and Din checked after that big ass explosion. They would have made sure of it haha.

The rumor came out after the Armourer told Bo Katan to unite the clans. She was wise enough to see that the groups must overcome their differences to have a chance to survive and that this would be more important than ancient beliefs. Telling Bo Katan to take her helmet off out of the blue was the first sign that the Armourer had spent some thought on that for some time. The plan was that Grogu came close to Din Djarin and then kill him because the emperor has foreseen that he would play a bigger role in the uprising of "New Mandalore", wich would be a threat to the empire. But Grogu fell on his head and lost his memory, so the plan did not work. Or did it? Now Grogu is alone with Din Djarin at his place, acting cute and naive. It's not exactly *spying,* but it's a very manipulative tactic. I think that some fans were reading too deeply into the title this past week. Hell, the creator outright said that if you knew what it all meant, he'd failed with his vision

    Gideon's army would've been the sickest, but also probably the deadliest army in Star Wars. Last episode he mentioned how every culture has something to offer. The cloners, the Jedi, and the Mandalorians. He also mentioned how his upgraded Dark Trooper Armor was better because it had him in it. So he was going to not only have an army of force sensitive clones of himself, but they were all going to be wearing that new armor that he has, thus incorporating parts of all three cultures he spoke of, clones of himself, imbued with the Force, wearing dark trooper suits made of beskar.
    Also, the spy thing is more Biblical than literal. When Moses was leading the Israelites into the promised land, he sent twelve people to scout it out first, and they were called the Twelve Spies. Last episode, twelve Mandalorians went down to the surface of the planet to scout it out before bringing the rest of the people down

The only two episodes he wrote was the one with the Grogu flashback (that bit was obviously written by Dave) and was one of the highlights of the series, and episode 7 which was the best and highest rated episode of the series. I think Favreau really needs Filoni's guidance on Star Wars lore and basically just knowing what fans want to see.

    Enjoyed your reaction. Made me laugh a couple of times. You too, like me, fell for "The Spies" title hahah There were so many theories out there that I got really into and ended up being slightly disappointed but that's on me. Speculation can always lead to disappointment.
    I think overall the finale was good, could have been better and tighter if they gave more thought to the writing of the story itself throughout the season, like putting more emphasis on the emotional journey of characters and giving all of them more depth would make me enjoy it a lot more, also would be cool if didn't rely so much on exposition through dialogue... Please, show don't tell! It's also kinda apparent that they didn't plan what the show would be leading and are kinda making it up as they go along. Not every show can be Andor but I do wish they took more influences from it hahah
    My favorite episodes this season have been the ones that had co-writers, so I have to conclude that having some more writers in the room could only benefit them going forward (like for S4, if it really gets green lit and also the Mandoverse movie? I hope they plan that better than this season). Action scenes were really awesome, definitely the highlight! I also loved the Grogu moments we got in these last 2 episodes.
    I'm happy it ended on a positive note and not PAIN like I usually expect from SW! I really think this is a good place to end the series.

Why does this work? Well now that I think of it, Sidious' return was not a First order op and was secret to 99.999% of the first order, only spies like Pryde knew. So Gideon knowing and his entire remnant knowing wouldn't make sense. Fantastic episode

      I agree about Gideon. Two reasons, one how could he fly away. My thinking is the flames would prevent it. Plus how would he guide his way out? The second reason is the suit I'm sure has limits, to the point that it would have cooked him. I'm sure that he could fly blind and all but he's also narcissistic. He would believe up to the point when he died that he could not die.

    Great finale! Probably won’t be as beloved as Season 2’s but then again it’s hard to top that. Me though I really enjoyed it, particularly the aerial fight sequence between the Mandalorians and Gideon’s forces and how our main trio collectively took on Gideon (I really loved how active Grogu was this episode in comparison to how passive he was in the other finales). It’s nice that Gideon seems to have been dealt with (leaves more space for Thrawn) and Mandalore is reclaimed, unified and has a hopeful future.
    I will say this is the second time The Mandalorian has wrapped up a season a little too neatly and it begs the question of where subsequent seasons will go. Sure there’s some unresolved plot threads (the Imperial spy on Coruscant, what Grogu’s story was in the decades after Order 66) but I’m not sure if that’s enough to fill a season(s) now that some of the show’s biggest conflicts are apparently done. But who knows, I’m sure at least season 4 will set up Filoni’s grand finale movie.
    In the meantime I eagerly await Ahsoka’s show 🙂 #thisistheway #ihavespoken

      People are too keen to end something as soon as the level drops from previous highs....there is nothing to say that it can't reach those levels again. Sure, this season was pretty average, while that Jack Black episode was just an abomination but I think it's clear that Favreau missed Dave Filoni's input, who was likely too busy with the Ahsoka series to give much guidance to him on this season. The episodes Dave did help out with ended up having some of the best content of the series and the second ep he co-wrote ended up being the highest rated. Now that he's finished with Ahsoka he will probably have more time for season four. I wouldn't give up on it yet...

    Just like making *Grogu* 50+ yrs old but with zero communication skills,¹ When it comes to last episode's title, _"The Spies,"_ I'm guessing they didn't think it through. We had the spy on _Coruscant,_ and perhaps they simply meant, _"The Spies"_ as in, _"We're now going to show you what the spies generally do in Star Wars."_ It's clearly a seriously nuanced approach. . .assuming it was on purpose. 😏
    Now, as I note above, there actually is a way to present a title like _"The Spies"_ and NOT necessarily have more than one - _particularly when it _*_is_*_ a title._ It's just clear the makers of the show didn't think about how the internet initially tends to look at things rather two-dimensionally overall, and then run with it.
    Another [ *EDIT: **_more likely_* ] possibility is, along with _what's-her-face_ on _Coruscant,_ perhaps the showrunners were talking about the group that *Gideon* was talking to. I wouldn't label them _spies,_ but maybe that's in fact what they were referring to. 🤷🏼‍♂️
    Ultimately, I still feel the writing is subpar with this show. I mean we are in the age of truly phenomenal TV, and this just seems more like it's the writng of a Saturday morning cartoon by comparison.
    That said, I must admit, the Mandalorians v Troopers air battle was indeed rather _sa-weet!_ As was *Din's* hand to hand with the troopers. It was just the premise that made so little sense.
    The guards just standing in alcoves while there are enemies forces attacking the base. And they are held by force fields for reason that escape me. I guess we're not supposed to think about anything except _the moment_ with the __ etc., and not before. And hey, they generally do the __ rather well.
    And what's with killing *Paz* but capturing *Din?* That made absolutely ZERO sense. Again, Saturday morning TV writing.
    9:33 *Gideon:* _"No, I'll take care of him myself."_ ⁉️ Dude, *you just had him.* 🤦🏼‍♂️
    ··•●✺●•··
    ¹ ─ Clearly that was not thought through. Alien spiecies or no, 50+ yrs old and *Grogu* still has the language skills of a human under 12 months old (babies start to developer speech between 12 and 18 months). And all this while *understanding* virtually everything being said to him. 🤦🏼‍♂️
    *ADDENDUM:* I guess what bugs me most about the *Grogu* situation is that it seems completely unnecessary. They gave him that age arbitrarily. After all, there wasn't a precedent set before him. 🙄

    So many build ups with cloning and all of that, also with Moff Gideon, but ultimately it led to really nothing in the end.
    I don’t like they build up and give us really big expectations and it’s just kind of the same ending as season two so it felt a little “over done” in a way with us just seeing them fight Gideon again and that’s it.

    So Favreau and/or Filoni tried to get too clever with the Spies title and threw off too many fans. It must have been the Moses & 12 spies/scouts biblical reference people have mentioned, scouting out ahead to see if it was safe, just like 12 Mandalorians who went with Bo to scout out Mandalore. I've seen people try to claim there's no way it'd be a biblical reference, but the Ep1 was the Apostate (one who forsakes their religion) in which Mando needs to redeem himself for taking off his helm and brings back a shard from Mandalore. An easter egg is that the shard das a passage from Exodus 10:5-6 from the Bible about Jewish enslavement by Egyptians which eventually led to Moses leading them away, so they were planning those themes from the beginning. No credit to me, I just found this out by other people's posts.

    I'm not gonna lie, Primate, I loved this season. If nothing else, we saw a metric shit-ton of character development. Bo Katan redeeming herself, the Armourer realizing that "The Way" comes in different flavors depending on how you're raised (or "indoctrinated into".... if you want to compare it to our society), but that's okay for different clans to have different beliefs. Things like that. I thought the whole "there's a spy within the Mandalorians" always came off as a red herring for me. I wasn't buying it (especially not the Armourer).
    But this episode was quite the payoff. I felt Grogu was going to help Din out, but I didn't expect it to be as much of a "team up" as we got.

    • @p-forest
      @p-forest ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm honestly confused as to how some people don't see the character development. Maybe if you haven't seen Clone Wars and Rebels, to see how Mandalorians, Bo etc. used to be, although they did try to add in comments along the way to show it, like commenting on how their infighting has held them back and such. I guess most viewers won't know about how relying on 'whoever has the Darksaber is the ruler' led to Darth Maul ruling them for a while and how much of a disaster that was, how much Bo has matured and grown since her early years, etc. But still, she's shown growth betwene S2 and the end of S3.

  • @averysmiley987
    @averysmiley987 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wish i could say this finale was satisfying to me, but I felt like there were just far too many weird plotlines and unfinished ones as well.
    Like you said, there are never any Mandalorian “spies,” making the title of the last episode very confusing. This mixed with the fact that the Mandalorians suffered zero losses in this episode makes the entire battle to reclaim Mandalore feel like it was a walk in the park, as opposed to last season where the main characters would’ve been doomed if not for Luke Skywalker. Hell, Mando being captured didn’t even lead to anything interesting, he escaped with ease in the first five minutes of the episode.
    Moff Gideon’s plan of making clones of himself with Force powers (which is the entire reason he’s wanted Grogu since season 1) is honestly pretty goofy when you think about it, and on top of that it comes out of nowhere, gets explained really quickly, and Din kills all the clones literally seconds after they first get revealed.
    Although I do think destroying the Darksaber was the right way to go for Bo-Katan’s character, The Darksaber’s destruction felt so casual and meaningless, and literally not a single character talks about it afterwards, which feels like a big disservice to an item that was extremely important in Clone Wars, Rebels, and even this show.
    The rest of my main gripes are just more plotlines that didn’t really go anywhere. The Coruscant episode with Doctor Pershing and Gideon’s spy didn’t lead to anything outside of Gideon’s return, the Mythosaur didn’t do anything at all, and the show never once mentioned Duchess Satine, Maul, or Sabine, despite how important they are to the lore of Mandalore.
    Despite all my grips and disappointments, I’m hopeful for the future of this show now that it’ll just be about the adventures of Mando and Grogu. I also think that Bo-Katan and Mandalore will get their own spin-off show, and hopefully we’ll get some follow-up on the many unfinished storylines from this season.
    Sorry for typing so damn much lol, but I feel like your comment section has a pretty good variety of opinions so I like to share mine and see everyone elses. I’m excited to watch the Ahsoka show and see your reactions soon, and if you’ve just started watching Andor be ready for a Top 3 Star Wars show, next to Clone Wars and Mando Season 1.

    **SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN ALL OF THE EPISODES**
    Personally, I think a large part of why people had problems with this season was because of the non-linear story telling. Season 2 and the Book of Bobba Fett both had much more linear story telling. To me, though, this was much more "realistic". It started with Din having to go to the Living Waters and that led to Bo Katan joining his covert. It was the Armorer who pushed Bo Katan to go out and collect other Mandalorians and bring them "home" and then for them to retake Mandalore.
    The Pershing episode was my least favorite of the season, but it gave us valuable information, like the presence and positioning of the spy and the way former Imperials were being handled. That helped explain why the Duchess and her husband needed Din and Bo Katan's help to deal with the rogue droids. And that quest set up allies who could sponsor Mandalore as a sovereign planet once again. All of it was connected and setting up things needed for the Mandalorians to actually free their planet, but also setting things up for beyond the end of the season, for the planet's, and the galaxy's, future. Yes, some of it was boring or less interesting, but that's life, and politics.
    This was not people dealing with the leaders of the galactic forces and their plans, but dealing with lower level bosses or high level peons. This is dealing with two planets and their peoples in the Outer Rim. Their stories are worth telling, but they are far less impactful than the stories of the last living royal of Alderaan and her twin brother, children of the right hand man of the ruler of the entire galaxy. The actions of Din and his allies only really affect the fate of two planets in a galaxy that had more than 1.5 million recognized member planets in the old Empire. I'm sure that the death of Moff Gideon will affect the larger picture in the long run, but we already knew that he wasn't a major player in the future of the whole galaxy and I don't think that there were any Mandalorians in the last three Star Wars movies. It's a very different story, with a very different focus than the movies. I think people sometimes loose track of that.

    First Cad Bane, now Moff Gideon. These shows have no idea how to deal with their villains. And I'm not a hater in any respect, I'm just getting tired of cool villains being taken out like chumps. If they wanted Gideon to be enveloped by the explosion, fine, but you gotta do a few things to make it impactful. First, have *him* do something major like kill one of the supporting characters. Second, in the shot where he dies, shoot it like it's a big deal, have the helmet come off and have a close up of his face, either have him accept death like Ra's al Ghul (Batman Begins) or Beckett (At World's End), or have him yell in fury as the explosion envelops him. Instead of an awkward wide shot.

    Glad people were happy with the episode, but I’m disappointed that I’m so disappointed. It seems like tons of people really enjoyed the finale but this whole season has been nothing but boring to me. The acting has been stiff surprisingly often, the writing has been full of even more holes than Star Wars typically has, lots of the effects are pretty wonky, the main story was all over the place, Din Djarin didn’t feel like the focus of the show, Gideon and his clones were a huge anticlimax, the Darksaber was built up for nothing… There are so many flaws I can’t even suspend my disbelief while I’m watching, which is a problem I’ve never had before.
    I’m hoping for better in the future, but it seems like most people just eat up whatever Disney slaps together if they call it “Star Wars” or “Marvel”. I don’t think the problems I have are gonna be fixed anytime soon and I’ve pretty much hit my limit. I love Star Wars (and Marvel) but I don’t think I’ll be following them as closely anymore, it’s draining to get my hopes up just to be frustrated at what they give us.

    6/10
    I am disappointed.
    The Praetorian Guard easily killed Paz in the previous episode - in this episode the elite let themselves be distracted by the stupid "No" button, additionally they couldn't kill either Din or Grogu, they were trained to fight the Jedi so it shouldn't be a challenge for them. 1 Praetorian should be able to handle it and there were 3 of them.
    Din's way of escaping is also just stupid.
    Gideon's death didn't make me emotional or somethink I didn't care, I laughed at the absurdity of the Praetorians.
    The only moments that really interested me were: Destruction of the Darksaber, Clones and Dave Filoni in the bar.
    The Mandalorian combat in the air was pretty cool.
    Whole season is 5/10 for me.

    Bro, I think I was way more disappointed in this season than you did. Episode 2 was by far the best this season, and then it was downhill from there. Everything that was built up had a very unfulfilling conclusion. Crucial story elements were rushed and it all came across as scattered storytelling. There were some excellent action sequences, but the things that ultimately drive satisfaction for most people - character development, dramatic tension, high stakes, and satisfying and fun outcomes - were delivered at a mediocre level. It was the worst of the 3 seasons by far IMO. Looking forward to Ahsoka and Andor Season 2.
