I feel like this ending and the following season it promised was so satisfying because it made a call-back to the spaghetti western roots of the Mandalorian and basically promised it would return in full-force

The reason why the troopers and Gideon were affected by things like fire and the Darksaber is because their armor is only made of Beskar Alloy whereas the actual Mandalorians armor is PURE Beskar. There’s a difference.

For those who missed it: in the scene right near the end, where Din and Grogu walked into the New Republic bar, there is a small group of like 4 or 5 people on the left-hand side. In that group, the guy in the hat is Dave Filoni.

And with this episode Din Djarin gets his big hallway fight scene.
Also, there seems to be some confusion out there as to why the Armorer called him Din Grogu, which would seem to mean that Mando's name is Djarin and not Din. This would seem to mean that he comes from a culture that puts your surname in front of your given name (remember, he's not from Mandalore like the others). That is a thing in some cultures here on Earth, so it's bound to be found in a vast universe like in Star Wars.

I might not have cried but i was really pleased with how this episode and the whole season gave me a lot of OT vibes mixed with some very cheesy (but in a good way) Disney moments. It felt less dramatic than most things that Disney brought us and i really enjoyed that.

I see the end of this as a way of wrapping up the sub-plots involving Bo-Katan and the retaking of Mandalore, and now with Din taking Grogu on adventures to teach him about being a Mandalorian it will go back to focusing on the 2 of them. They did some minor set up for Ahsoka and I can also see them using this to lay the seeds for another series/movie focused on Mandalorians as a whole and the re-building of Mandalore and their culture.

I loved this season, I think they underutilised a couple of actors in one episode but the episodes themselves were good, I like that it was wrapped up well but there's still room for more if they decide to, I would love to reach a point where grogu finds a balance with the force and mandalorian culture, to hear grogu say their first backward sentence, complete their armour set would be the cherry on the cake, perhaps even reforge the dark saber...I will admit they didn't address it but moth Gideon's strength and the sound when he moved implied his suit was cybernetically enhanced or maybe they did and I forgot but the amount of pressure needed to break a beskar steel lightsaber hilt must be mental

We're getting a season 4 and likely 5 so this show isn't finished even though this episode really made it feel like it is with every plot point finished, they really need to leave the Thrawne stuff to the Ahsoka show but my guess is seasons 4 and 5 are gonna use some material from the cancelled Rangers of the New Republic project, likely with Carson Teva becoming a series regular/supporting lead character, then idk maybe Mandalorian politics and stuff? There's really nothing they can do that's new or exciting past this episode, they should just scrap season 4 and do a different show cause it clearly won't be about Djarin and Grogu anymore, plus Pedro is leaving the show too so they'll have to recast him or just not show Djarin and Grogu at all anymore, it'll basically become the Book of Bo-Katan at this rate

  • @XionDarkblood13

This was such a good season and I hope this puts to rest all of the talk of "Is the Mandalorian failing it's fans?". I would love to find out how many of the people complaining about the "meandering, unfocused story" binge watched the first two seasons and were watching this week by week. Not as a criticism but I was there for the week to week release of the first season and if you want to talk about feelings of "pointless filler", which is a strong term even for what I am about to talk about, then imagine waiting a week and seeing "The Gunslinger" and that being your Mandalorian for the week. From what I saw at the time it was considered the weakest episode and I think it still is, and that is still amazing that this show manages to have that good of an episode be it's weakest (say what you like, it was still a very good episode and if that was the quality of "weakest" episode in most shows I would be watching a lot more shows.) It is a genuine curiosity of mine to know how many people binge watched season 1 and/or 2 and were complaining about this season. Because, IMO, the week to week thing is not where these shows are the strongest and is more a method to keep intrest and make money, not that it's a bad thing. They are designed and written to be a complete story and are more like movies in that way. So only getting that story piece by piece will make people feel like it's lacking in the direction. It also ends up being much longer than a movie and so there is more time to flesh out side stories and characters, which is absolutely amazing and more shows written in this age of internet weekly shows needs to take notes on. I would love to see the full Lord of the Rings story told in this format with a budget like the movies and other shows are getting because it would allow for all of that detail to be shown and fleshed out in a way you just cant in a single movie. Peter Jacksons Lord of the Rings is the perfect movie adaptation of a book as are the Hobbit movies (I know he added a lot in the Hobbit trilogy but in all fairness to him and to give him full credit, Tolkien gave up in frustration trying to rewrite the Hobbit to fit the tone of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Jackson did amazingly well considering he wanted someone else to take the reigns for it and didn't want to make it a trilogy at all but did an amazing job with what was given to him) because Jackson knew what to keep and what to leave out and what to change and how to change it in a way that made sense for a movie. Having Frodo fuck around in the Shire for 30 years or something would have really hurt the pacing of the movie and made even more arguments about the logic of the movies. Having Tom Bombadil would have also massively slowed down the pace and despite being so important in that part of the books Jackson was willing to cut that in order to make a better movie version of the books. Jackson and Filoni are both masters at figuring out what details and lore to keep and what to leave out. They are not afraid to mess with things to make a better story and what to stand firm on keeping. The only real evidence you need about Filoni being dedicated to good story and knowing what is important to keep and what isn't is the fact that he, and his team, painstakingly ensured that Anakin and General Grievous never met in person despite how easy and cool it would be to see them fight because it was canon that they only met in person in Revenge of the Sith. I am 100% certain that some exec tried to pressure them into having an episode of Anakin and Grievous fighting but Filoni knew to stand his ground on that one. If you need more proof of Filoni being the true heir to the Star Wars franchise, then look no farther than Ahsoka. One of the most hated characters when she was introduced and now one of the most beloved and important Star Wars characters in the franchise and Ahsoka is entirely a Filoni OC. I was talking to someone who has only recently started watching Star Wars and she didn't even know Ahsoka had gotten any hate and didn't understand why anyone would dislike her in the Clone Wars series. It's because she knew where Ahsokas character was going and wasn't there when the show was first coming out and in the context of only the movie and first two seasons, Ahsoka is an annoying whiny character. Filoni looked past the criticism and knew where he wanted her character to go and did so in an amazing way and showed how over five seasons a character can grow and become an icon of a series. Imagine if he had caved in and just killed her off and how much we would have lost of great Star Wars stories. It would be almost as bad as cutting an entire plot and character due to backlash and that story being so good it would have instantly redeemed the character at the reveal and made the most hated Star Wars character into one of the best Star Wars characters and introduced DRUNKEN MASTER LIGHTSABER FIGHTING STYLE AS AN ACTUAL THING!!! GOOD THING THAT NEVER HAPPENED BECAUSE GEORGE LUCAS NEVER BACKED DOWN AFTER BACKLASH!!! Sorry, I don't know where that came from.
As for this Season Finale, I was so unexpectedly happy that it ended on such a high note and such a good place for all the characters. This really felt like the end of a trilogy and I think it basically is. I am so excited and scared to see next season because if Filoni is following the traditional Star Wars setup of threes, the next three seasons are going to be the "Empire Strikes Back" tone of tragedy and darkness. I was almost as excited to see the Girls Reactions of this episode as the episode itself. After the last episode I needed to go watch puppy and kitten videos because I was so sad afterwards. This absolutely was the puppy and kitten endorphins the season needed to end on after that last episode. I was absolutely ready for season 4 being the mission to get Dad back and I was fully onboard for Grogus first words being the "You have something I want." speech to Moff Gideon. I 100% agree that more stuff needs to have a good solid ending, rather than always ending on a dramatic cliffhanger. It kind of ruins the effect of dramatic cliffhangers if everything has one. People are saying that this is the end of the series because of how solid the ending was and that shows how rare it is to get a season with a happy solid ending despite the fact they literally spell out what is coming next for the show. This episode was an absolute banger and hit all the right beats, the right tones and just the right amount of Disney bullshit to make it amazing without ever being so over the top it breaks any suspension of disbelief. I definatly shed a few tears of joy when Din broke out on his own and just the constant myraid of characters working together and trusting each other. Din trusting R5 to get the shields down and even when it was looking bad he calmly just kept asking for the next shield to go down was such a huge moment of character development done so subtly and then him saying "Good job buddy" was just so many feels. That finale of Din formally adopting Grogu was such an amazing touch and so great I can't... I just can't. Having Ragnar finish his interupted ceremony on Mandalore at the actual living waters was such a wonderful tribute to Paz and I just loved that subtle detail so much. They honored his sacrifice by having his son be the first to be baptised in the living waters since the Purge was just amazing. I also loved that there was no subplot of the orthodox Mandalorians blaming the other Mandalorians for leaving Paz behind because there is no way they would not believe Paz would make that sacrifice for them. That is how you do a rivalry right and make an adversarial character the right way. I am so genuinely sad he is gone because of how much I want to see him interact with Din and Grogu and the other Mandalorians. He would absolutely still be the stubborn and antagonistic guy he has always been but after seeing his true character and motivations, you just have a much greater apreciation and respect for his views and the positions he takes. His characters actions in the past seasons are so much better now that we know what kind of person he really is. Maybe some of it was being jealous or just being a jerk but when you know he will put that aside to do the right thing it does change how you look at it. I loved this episode and this season and I can definatly say it is the best so far of the series!!!
