      18:06- Actually, the intense heat from the exploding ship is more than enough to render even beskar useless since the armor doesn't cover the entire body and Moff Gideon would be cooked from the inside as it doesn't have A/C and he didn't take off with his jetpack as if something wasn't letting him escape. I think Grogu held the Moff in place long enough for the flames to engulf him before he then shielded Din and Bo.

    This is the mark of a mature, confident series. It didn’t need Thrawn, Luke, or Ahsoka because the story it told was epic and moving without them. The Return was the end of a story! We’re so thirsty for teasers, post-credits, and cliffhangers that we’ve almost forgotten how to listen to a single story. This season was the story of the return of Mandalore, and it was brilliant.
    That iris shot at the end punctuates this. It focused on a vignette. This is is a snapshot of one of the best moments in their lives. We as an audience need that. Wherever the story goes, we can go back to this moment and remember.
    Season 1: Grogu’s hand reaching up to Djarin
    Season 2: Djarin removing his helmet to say goodbye
    Season 3: Djarin and Grogu livin’ the life

    It's a little thing, but I appreciate the fact that for Gideon to have broken the saber WHILE it was in Bo's hand means he had to have broken her hand, too. To that end, Katee doesn't use her right hand again for the rest of the episode, even when lighting the forge.

    I've seen people complaining that Grogu didn't use the Force enough this episode. What I loved was how he used it. He didn't try to choke anyone, and mostly tried to avoid actively harming people. He used it defensively, and to protect others. His stamina is also improved.
    Luke may have struggled with others, but it seems he did a good job teaching Grogu while he was with him.

    • @lovinlorne
      @lovinlorne ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes. The time with Luke taught Grogu how to channel the Force in a more efficient manner, avoiding the energy crashes that limited his ability to protect/defend.

    • @catherinesanchez1185

    • @pabloc8808
      @pabloc8808 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's some nice character development, Grogu has become more mature, he dislikes and avoid violence whenever possible. An interesting choice, considering he is Mandalorian and the Children of the Watch are big fans of "violence first, questions later", but the right choice considering he has also trained under Luke

    • @TyrannosavageRekt
      @TyrannosavageRekt ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I also thought he used it in a way that allowed it to make sense for Djarin to defeat three Praetorian Guards. He essentially ran interference/crowd control by keeping them off-balance and disarmed. They’re very well trained, but not immune to being beaten when disadvantaged.

    • @malteseheart

      100% this. Fans got bogged down in theorizing who would show up to save the day but the whole point of the season comes down to Bo’s line, that “Mandalorians are stronger together.” They needed to do it on their own to forge a new Mandalore.

      @@chastitykolb9643 Yeah, and it actually made me less bothered about the damage to the Darksaber. Leading Mandalore is about more than a weapon or a creature. I’m sure both will come back around in the future, but for now it’s Bo’s character uniting their people.

    • @GodAtum
      @GodAtum ปีที่แล้ว

      This series setups interesting possibilities for Din's emotional and spiritual journey that wind up doing nowhere. Like the Darksaber being too heavy for him to wield that felt like it had some great potential for some character development to learn about himself and connect with the blade (just like Sabine did in one of the absoloute best episodes of Rebels) but he casually passes it to Bo instead.
      Or there's the removal of his helmet to let Grogu see his face that put him at odds with the Armorer and the rest of his clan. We could have dug into his relationship with a group this series has labeled a cult in its own words but he just goes to redeem himself and then sees the acceptance of Bo and her Mandalorians and just continues to leave his helmet on.
      Having Din recused so quickly in the season finale where Din usually experiences some new level of personal growth it makes me wonder what the plan is with his character if there is one at all, because it seems like he's just spinning his wheels.
      IMO it would have been more powerful if Bo destroyed the Darksaber herself. This is another thing this season that just happened to her ... she accidentally joined a cult, she was ordered to take her helmet off, then she was given the Darksaber and then it was taken from her. I think it does show character growth that she no longer thinks she needs to Darksaber to lead but I wish she decided to set it aside herself rather then having her enemy make that decision for her.
      As for the final scene in the Living Waters, I don't know what to make of it. It seemed like a chance for more development for Din but the biggest emotional breakthrough was Din saying he'd adopt Grogu ...I mean yeah duh I thought we were already on the same page with that. The Armorer said Din was Grogu's father back in season 1 so that moment didn't really land for me.
      And I don't know what to think of the Children of the Watch anymore. I feel like the Armorer's story has been bouncing back and forth. To me there seemed like a lot of emphasis placed on strict adherence to rules that didn't matter. Throughout the season I wanted Din to decide that being a Madalorian didn't mean wearing your helmet all the time, it meant living with honor. I feel like there's this tension between the removal of his helmet in Season 2 and then his immediate desire to redeem himself as if it was some kind of mistake. I don't think he regrets showing his face to Grogu, I think he knows where there are moments where the helmet should come off so I was hoping for more of a change on a personal level for Din.

While most of fandom was trying to figure out who the other spies were, a few theorized it was actually a reference to Moses and the 12 spies he sent to scout Canaan as a future home for their people. Good to hear you guys liked the finale! Other channels have been complaining about it, and the season as a whole saying it's a letdown compared to seasons 1 and 2. I enjoyed it like I do most things in live action Star Wars. I don't go in with expectations, I just see what happens and I usually always find things to like about the shows or films. They're not always perfect, but they're Star Wars, so they're just cool as hell! They can be action packed, or just plain goofy at times, but Star Wars has always been that way since the very beginning. And, as an OG fan, I accept it for what it is, and love it! Can't wait to see Ahsoka!

    That iris shot was showing Grogu, who is Always hungry, lifting the frog, then putting it back.
    When Grogu jumped, Din told Bo he didn't learn that from him, same for when he separated Paz and Axe.
    In the fight with Gideon and with the guards he didn't harm any of them, he took their weapons and pushed them, but he did no harm.
    He isn't a baby anymore, he has more self control, and he is living according to what Luke taught him.
    He wants to be a Mandalorian, like his dad, but he already is living according to the Jedi teachings even if he never becomes a Jedi.

    By the end of this I'd come to love the character of The Armourer. I'd never considered before how the spiritual leaders of the Mandalorians would also be those that forged their armour.
    More than that though, I loved the development of Bo-Katan as a character and love the fact that Katee Sackhoff got to come back and have this arc of character development.

    I’ve already seen people complaining about how Din (+ Grogu a little) did his own escape from those two guards instead of another big character coming in to save the day but I loved it because it was like the Din from S1 & S2 who would fight several people at a time regardless of the “odds”. We didn’t get to see that side of him much this season so it was really satisfying
    The only thing I would’ve liked included in the episode was a funeral or send off for Paz

  • @xarkos
    @xarkos ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Personal opinion on the interwoven stories, I love stories that not only share a universe but even can impact one another, but, I think there's a right and a wrong way to do so. Having characters from other shows come in and have a cameo, even having the events on one show have ripples in another is great. Where the Book of Boba Fett/Mandalorian crossover missed the mark in my opinion was that the reunion wasn't a cameo or a simple ripple effect, it was a major, massively impactful part of the Mandalorian story that didn't take place in a Mandalorian show. Having Din Djarin aid Boba Fett is fine. If something happened during that cameo that we could see recapped in some way such as a force vision and that's what leads Grogu to leave his Jedi training at the start of Mando season 3 then I'd say that was great even. But having such an important storyline happen elsewhere really felt like a big mistake.
    All of that said however, I am someone that watches all the things and I loved this season and cannot wait to see where the series and the characters go from here.

    It’s actually insane how epic Moff Gideon’s armor/helmet was. Like, part of me wishes we had gotten more of it. But who knows, maybe he isn’t dead? I mean that armor could have protected him.
    My friend was like “man if only Qui Gon had R5 he would have survived” and I’m not talking to him for a while after what that comment did to me emotionally…..
    I got absolute chills when all the Mandalorians were flying towards the base and Bo ignites the Dark Saber. That battle was EPIC!!!!!

    This season has had the best visuals in all star wars, especially the aerial shots, the interaction of ships and enviroment, the jet packs, the different planets from Concrete coruscant, the colors of Plazir-15, and war torn Mandalore.
    I also hope Moff is still Alive, it will be such a waste, if this is just the end. I think this season , in just 2 episodes has put him in the top 5 Starwars villains....he gave me Vader vibes, from when i was a child....when i first saw Vader, i was scared of him...and Moff in his Beskar Suit....is pretty intimidating...great look...and Giancarlo has such a presence....the way he delivered his line ...." they were smothered before thier first Breath" beautiful

    Despite being a disciple of “no body, no death” for thirty years, I’m going to take a hardline stance that Moff Gideon is Dead, Actually for the following reasons:
    1. Diegetically (and thus least compelling): beskar melts. He wasn’t being hit with one of those wrist flamethrowers; it was the explosive destruction of an entire capital ship. Dude was atomized.
    2. Narratively: the possibility that Gideon survived can only undercut Grogu’s moment steering the flames around his found family. If Gideon had an “out”, then that opens the door for Din (and possibly Bo) to survive, too. It’s better storytelling if Grogu unambiguously saves them.
    3. Thematically: Gideon coveted the Force, and freely admitted his inability to wield it was the only thing between him and perfection (his Achille’s heel, if you will). It’s a fitting end to his character, therefore, to die in a scenario that could only be endured with help from the Force.
    Personally, I would take it as a very bad sign if Gideon shows up again.

    Perfect anding for a fantastic season. I just hope we still get to see Bo Katan with Din and Grogu, their dynamic is awesome. And I'm really happy they destroyed the dark saber, that weapon was so problematic and the origin of so many problems for the Mandalorians.

    i think theyre foreshadowing that grogu could be the next mandalore the great. they showed force sensitive gideon clones possibly react to grogu, and the mythosaur as well. and the dark saber has been destroyed and grogu has yet to make his lightsaber.
    speaking of which, does the dark saber use a kyber crystal? i guess that thing is gone anyways from the base explosion

    Over on On1Media's channel; someone in the comments brought up an old reference to the word Spies. The bible talks about how Moses asked one person from each tribe; to go ahead to see if the Promised Lands would be somewhere they could live. They were called 'The Spies'; which in this case, means scouts. So the episode The Spies; really meant the group of 12 Mandalorians, who went to scout ahead with Bo-Katan.

  • @markeith50

    ok. I've read other places ... something about the "Spies" from the previous episode. In this case the "Spies" were the Mando's that Bo-Katan took 12 Mando's with her to stake out Mandalore. It comes from the biblical 12 spies that Moses sent out to Canaan before the Israelites would settle there. There have been many Biblical passages, story tropes, etc in this season.

    I would love if later on Grogu makes his own lightsaber out of beskar, with the little metal ball (you know the one) on the end of the hilt.
    It would be a great mix of both Jedi and Mandalorian culture, which would be great for Grogu to be the first Mandalorian "Jedi" (not a formal jedi but you know what I mean) since Tar Visla.

    A lot of stuff in Mando is very video-game like including the structure of the plot, but giving him his own home in a city he helped enough, where he can store all his loot from adventures now... xD That was the most video-gamey thing in mando so far, apart from side quest structure of most plots. *ALL HAIL BO-KATAN, THIS IS THE WAY!!* I’ve said for years that she could be the best ruler Mandalore has ever had, and she’s more than proven that. She was the true titular Mandalorian this season. I’m also so happy that the Mandalorians *FINALLY* have their home back but more than that, they have truly been united. And seeing the Great Forge reignited was beautiful. I still can’t believe how many people thought that one of the Mandalorians would’ve been a spy for Moff Gideon, especially The Armorer! What just because she’s mysterious, has horns on her helmet?!?! I blame the fact that the last episode was called The Spies, which was a horrible title because there has only been 1 spy and it’s Elia Kane.
    Also, all I have wanted was for Din and Grogu, (I’m sorry, Din Grogu) to find a nice, peaceful and beautiful place to relax and call home. And all the frogs to play with/eat.

    One thing I hated about this season was some fans and a lot of youtube channels (not yours) who get hyped up every week and come up with crazy theories about how it should continue and who should show up as a cameo etc. And that's ok I guess , but then when their exaggerated visions don't come true, they're upset and disappointed at how bad season three is. Sometimes it's better if the season comes out all at once, like with Netflix, than one episode every week.
    Anyway, sorry about the rant. Amazing episode, top Star Wars. Great reaction, you guys rock.

    As far as the season goes, I’m good with it all. I’m really glad we got to explore Mandalore and the Mandalorians. I’m glad we were able to take a peek “behind the curtain” so to speak, and get the vibe of The New Republic (in over their heads with very little organization or oversight) which goes a long way in explaining how The First Order was able to rise so relatively quickly. I have no issues with Din and Grogu being part of something bigger than themselves, and actually having a hands on role in the reclaiming of Mandalore. That’s a big deal, whether people think so or not. As for the ending, I see it as a “soft-reboot” of sorts. Din and Grogu are once again a Clan of Two, going on adventures, learning the ways of the Mandalore and of course The Force.
    Can’t wait to see where we go from here!

    I like when the guy said "I love these three" lol. Absolutely agree I don't understand the hate towards the Bo-katan character and the obsession of watching only the Djn character I think there is space for more than one or two main characters in a show and I liked so much the interaction between those three It was awesome and it made sense since this season was the story of reclaming Mandalore and Djn becoming part of the mandalorian people in their whole. In the beginning of the series he accepted contracts from everyone even ex empire officers now he accepts contracts to catch empire renmants because he now recognize them as enemies of his people and so his enemies.
