    This video will contain some big spoilers for Disney's Frozen II, so please don't watch this (unless you want some spoilers, of course). Queen Iduna might have a really interesting backstory that would explain why Elsa has magical powers, and why Ahtuhallan was calling out for Elsa to become the 5th Element! This video even cover the REAL reason that the elemental spirits dropped a veil over the forest - and the war wasn't the issue - it was all Iduna! Anna and Elsa's mother has a very interesting full story, with some potential for Iduna to be a bad guy.

      Ok sO Disney actually came out with a book called “dangerous secrets the story of a iduna and Agnar.” End it proves just how much their story of love really came through. Seriously the first few pages talk about how he Idunna might not even live the night to tell her daughters the truth and how warm her husband‘s hold is even through all the rain. Then it cuts to them going through there life together and Iduna had to survive with the secret of her origin to live and how Adgar fell in love with her without knowing anything of her past at all. It’s so good I highly recommend it’s by Disney and it’s only like 14$

      I feel like money wise it’s possible but when Olaf asked Elsa toward the end of their dangerous adventures were over and she said ‘yes’ I took it as a sneaky way of saying they’re done with Frozen, lol! Maybe the actors want to move on now and I think it would be good to end on a good note and not ruin the franchise but Disney never misses an opportunity to make money so I won’t be surprised if they make a third.

    • @TheFangirlWatches
      @TheFangirlWatches  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That was more of a guess though. No one in the movie had all the information to make that call, and if Iduna didn't have powers, than it was Gale who did the saving. Plus, it was the king's family with the ice magic so there's a lot more at play than the movie covers.

  • @paschameleon
    @paschameleon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +82

    The movie clearly states that the Northuldran people are deeply connected to the magic of the forest and its elemental spirits, because of this I think the elements got angry because the people of Arendelle started a war with the Northuldran (kind of like if you have two friends who don't get along and they start fighting each other). It almost seems as if the spirits wanted the two sides to get along so they traped them together hoping it would bring peace. We see in flashbacks that Iduna has a deep connection with Gale (the wind spirit), Gale might have seen that Iduna was making an act of peace by trying to save the prince of Arendelle so it helped her out. It is also said in the movie that because of this act of kindness the spirit rewarded her by giving a magical child (Elsa) who is not only a sign of peace between the elements and the humans but also between the Northuldra tribe and Arendelle. The notes on the map also said that they were, in fact, trying to figure out if Elsa's magic was connected to the river, so your statement is correct. I do not think that Iduna was the fifth element. I think that they were angry with the people of Arendelle for building the dam and weakening the bond they had with the Northuldran tribe.

    The basis of this theory is wrong because Queen Iduna doesn't have magic, but is only good friends with Gale the wind spirit. If you wonder how she rescued Agnarr when she is too small to carry him. It is shown in the memories display when Elsa when into the magical river. Iduna called out to the wind spirit with that Ah ah ah ah song and save both their lives with its help. Why did it not help her when she drown going to the same place Elsa went is because another spirit, the Nokk, the water horse you see fighting Elsa guards that location preventing any trespassors that included their parents even if her mother is good friends with Gale and Elsa herself had to subdue that water horse to be allow to pass. As that place Elsa went to contains all memories of the past and so I think in the lore all the memories water collected is in that location. So the water has memories is likely references the water coming from that magical river that Elsa decided to go into to find her origins and only she can access the memories within the magical river is because she can freeze the water to give the memories form. Which she had done throughout the whole movies.

    I belive that Elsa/the fifth spirit is somehow an embodiment of Atohallan, it would explain why she has specifically ice powers (because it is a glaciar) and this new ability to summon icy memories, (because Atohallan is "full of memory") it would also explain why in Queen Iduna's song, she refers to the river as a female "...dive down deep into HER sound [...]" I don't know, it's my little theory.

  • @IanJulian02
    @IanJulian02 4 ปีที่แล้ว +78

    I think Iduna was of magical origin. The movie implies that Iduna’s lineage was special amongst the Northuldra. They state that she’s from the oldest family. Iduna clearly had some kind of commend over the wind too. Agnars story ends with him being lifted away. It was clear to me Iduna had some inste connection to Atahaland. Her lullaby was so directed at Elsa. “Come my darling homeward bound” and “a mother waits” (I can’t recall the true lyric, but I know it’s among those lines). It was almost a prophecy. There is even a memory in Atahaland where Iduna is telling Agnar “I need to tell you the truth about where I come from” ... but they where adults in that memory and Agnat met Iduna in the enchanted forest. It’s even more implied as Iduna is the one to ask Agnar if Elsa and Anna are ready to hear about the forest. I think Iduna traveled to Atahaland in search of both a way to solve who she was, who Elsa was, and how to free the forest, but it wasn’t the right time or the spirits didn’t want the whole ship crew to find out. The spirits are also hearing Iduna call out too. The spirts are otherworldly entities, but they are represented by something. We see the Elements attack without the presence of the spirits. So Maybe these set of spirts just have jurisdiction over the area of Arendel.

      But again I ask, what stock do the spirits have in a war? They're going on everywhere. Plus all of the spirits literally try to murder people in the movie, but they're upset if people do it to each other? Nokk was straight up pushing Elsa down to drown her.

    • @auryella4318

      Valid point, but Frozen 2 has a lot of mythology and many ancient cultures view the sea as a symbol of death, like something that takes but never gives back. In Germanic lore the Nokk is a playful and mischievous spirit that delights in drowning people. In the same way, in Frozen 2 the Nokk attempts to drown Elsa until she successfully tames it.

  • @faithdarkness9079
    @faithdarkness9079 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I think the war combined with the dam was what made the elements mad. The king was wanting to trick and kill the people just cause they could use or had access to magic. So as the people of the forest opened up there home and where friendly, the king blocked the water hurting the forest already angering the elements but then he went and attacked (killed?) the leader when his back was turned to him. And I think that was the reason the forest locked down.

Frozen 2 still does leave fans with a lot of questions as to the function of the 5th spirit and why it even matters for the 4 elemental spirits. If Frozen 3 comes out, I hope it can be discussed more, but I still agree with you. I looked back to this theory and I can still wrap my logic around it, even with the added context from Into the Unknown: Making of Frozen 2 where Jennifer Lee confirmed that the voice really was Elsa's mother, Iduna. It still makes some logical sense that the voice, being confirmed Iduna, is still canonically the magic of Ahtohallan all the same calling Elsa to come home.
    Ahtohallan, the magical frozen river, uses magic to use Iduna's calling voice that only Elsa can hear, clearly suggesting that specific voice is of magical origin. The difference can be clearly compared when the voice that Agnarr heard when he was young, while the same, is not a magical one. He was able to hear Iduna's living voice because she was right by his side when she saved him (same goes for those who got trapped in the forest, but also witnessed hearing the physical voice as well, which became stories passed down to Honeymaren's generation).

    Didn't the movie say that the sprits were pushing them out to protect the people for when the dam was destroyed, since they were waiting for Elsa?
    And maybe they were still on good terms with the forest people. In the memory cave scene thing, it kinda showed that eduna (can't spell it) sung/called out that little rhyme thing Elsa was hearing, and the wind spirit seemed to show up soon after and picked up Elsa's father for her. Like they knew this was the right decision, and helped her

  • @TheSenator007
    @TheSenator007 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It is pointed out that the fifth spirit is a bridge between the four spirits and that a bridge needs two ends. It is suggested that those ends need to be two humans, so maybe the two humans that made up the bridge were killed in the fight that broke out between the Northuldra and the Arendellians, causing division between the other four spirits. The wind spirit then came up with the plan to give Iduna the ability to give birth to two children that could form a new bridge and lifting her and Agnarr through the mist put up by the water and fire spirit. Iduna would probably have some understanding of what was going on, so she knew that in order to solve the problem in the Enchanted Forest Elsa and Anna needed to form the bridge of the fifth spirit. However, in order to do that, Elsa first needed to control her own powers, and Iduna really didn't know how to help her with that. As Northuldra, she probably knew about Ahtohallan held answers for such questions. When Elsa hadn't gained control over her powers by the age of 18, she decided such answers were needed. Agnarr found a sea route around the Enchanted Forest to Ahtohallan, and after preparing a cover story of going to the Kingdom of the Netherlands (see below footnote) they set sail. They hadn't expected the water spirit had control over the Dark Sea as there was a water divide between the main river of the Enchanted Forest and the Dark Sea, so the storm that suddenly appeared took them by suprise. That is my theory at this point.
    Footnote: in the movie it is mentioned that the ship of Iduna and Agnarr was believed to have sunk in the Southern Sea instead of the Dark Sea. That meant their cover story would have required them to be at the Southern Sea at the time a storm happened there, otherwise they would not have been declared dead, just missing. So in order to figure out where they were going, one would need to find a Southern Sea that could be reached from Southern Norway (as that is where Arendelle is, as explicitly mentioned in the song 'That time of year' from 'Olaf's Frozen adventure') within a week (as Anna said "See you in two weeks" when they left). The map in 'Frozen Fever' shows that the sea south of Arendelle is called Nordsøen or North Sea. This suggests to look south of the North Sea, but today no Southern Sea is to be found there. That is because one that did exist was turned into a lake when a dam called the Afsluitdijk in the Netherlands was built in 1932. Before that, there was a Zuyderzee or Southern Sea there, of which the entire coast belonged to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. As the map in 'Frozen Fever' shows the year MDCCCXL or 1840, so at the time Agnarr and Iduna set sail there was a Southern Sea in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It was located at about 800 km (500 miles) away, so I'd say I found the Southern Sea where Iduna and Agnarr were believed to have died. And because it was surrounded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, their cover story must have been that they were going to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

      That doesn't make any sense. Think about it. Nokk could have torn down the wall, or any other spirit. And they did NOTHING to express displeasure for the wall until the war was finished when they could have prevented it from being built. There was no spirit reactions until the war started, which was the same time Iduna ran away. And destroying the bridge was meant to demolish Arendelle - they wanted revenge on the place that took the 5th Element.

    You hit a lot of the same theories I had! Iduna definitely played a bigger role in this film than most people recognise! They also hint at Iduna being descended from the leaders of the Northumbra people since the symbol on her shawl is immediately recognized by the majority of the tribe as belonging to one of the oldest families, likely the leaders. In which case Elsa and Anna would be princesses of both peoples and their paternal grandfather likely killed their maternal grandfather, but someone theorized they stepped away from pushing this because Elsa is literally the whitest character and having her inherit a position of power over the native Northumbra people doesn't look good...it's kind of like her Grandpa finally conquered them? Anna would look better but idk nothing really materialized there. I totally support 5th spirit Iduna, especially since it was her calling/commanding/summoning both the wind spirit and Elsa. I doubt the Northumbra realised the extent of Iduna's elemental abilities and eventually would have enlightened her as to her role but with the war she made a snap decision to save her crush and get out of dodge. She probably didn't realise she wouldn't be able to go home again. Away from her people no one could explain things to her, Iduna's powers likely weakened and maybe she always thought her connection was dependant on the forest, so she hardly noticed when they disappeared until she had Elsa.

    the theme about water holding memories is a new-age thing about that actually water could held propeties of things and even emotions, when exposed to key-words or sounds and then got frozen into different ice crystals that kinda reflect the idea about water holding memory of things somehow. Olaf is quoting some eerie investigation from Masaru Emoto in the 90´s and 2000s but some 150 year before that!

    Thanks for this intriguing speculation. I'm fascinated by Iduna and Agnar's romance. It's a story that needs to be told. And, given her relationship with the wind, a.k.a. "Gail," it seems Iduna was more connected with that particular element than the rest of her people. Did you notice how during Elsa's quest it's Gail who's constantly showing up to nudge and guide her in the right direction? I have to wonder if that is her mother...I got the impression that big Iduna head in the glacier wasn't necessary a memory but the former queen herself interacting with her daughter.

    Joy ære forgetting that Gale only helped Iduna because they had a close bond together. And Iduna was pure hearted girl that chose to save her enemy. Which was the reason Elsa was born with her ice power as a reward from the spirits for Iduna's action by saving Agnarr.

    maybe Iduna wasn't the fifth spirit, but was a cataylist for it instead. The forest woman asks why the spirits would gift Elsa with her powers. So perhaps the book Agnar looks at is not as old as we think. It could be possible that Iduna had a strong connection with the spirits, maybe "training" to be the fifth, but never got that far so they instead gave the role to Elsa. I also think that if someone from Arendell had ice magic that could be why Agnar's father didn't trust them. In one of the memories we hear her start to confess her past to Agnar. I think he was scared of Elsa. He loved her because she was his daughter, but his past made him wary. You can see that Elsa had a pretty great grasp on her powers and the trolls say that fear will be her enemy yet he insits she stay locked away and never use her power. feeding her fear. the mom just sits back and watches. maybe he has a prejudice against magic and she wanted to go to the river out of guilt for giving the daughter power. Also the whole bit about a bridge and two daughters. Maybe Anna did get powers, they're just not elemental. She's very persuasive and social that could be her power. Elsa is the element part and Anna the human, together they make the bridge.

    Was that dam destroyed by Elsa, Anna or the Rock Giants at Anna's request?
    The Spirit of the Enchanted Forest could have taken down that dam at any time, but they were wise enough to realize that if they made the decision it would go over badly with Arendelle, especially since the kingdom would have been flooded. That's why they wanted the decision to be made by King Runard or a member of his family, which was made possible when a Northuldra girl with no magical powers, and was certainly not a previous incarnation of the Fifth Spirit, rescued Runard's son. So the Magical Spirits did want Idunna to go with Agnarr back to Arendelle and build the relation of love and trust that would form the foundation for the friendship that Runard's betrayal destroyed.
    I've heard some absurd movie hypothesizes in my time, and this is definitely up there.

    I’m pretty sure Iduna didn’t have any powers because the element spirits blessed her first born with powers because she saved her enemy and had 2 daughters because they each represent the 2 bridges of the worlds. That explains why she wanted to find the explanation behind Elsas powers is because having powers is all new to her. But I reckon the spirits really do care about the people and intended to make a fog to seperate them from a war because they fled the people of arendelle from the big wave.

  • @lys.8514
    @lys.8514 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My theory:
    Elsa's mother have no powers,it was just a small part of the wind spirit that is not mad yet,as a gift of iduna forgiving an enemy (Agnar from Arrendlle) and elsa was born with ice power. But somehow they think its a curse so,she come to ahtohaleen and was going to ask for answer but they died in the way,and why the spirits was mad is because the war ruins the magic of the forest or the spirits is probably mad because of agnar's father making a barrier for the water spirits but instead making it weaker,thats why in the end anna broke down the barrier the spirits was release,Also iduna didnt marry agnar for a magical child,but because she loved him truly,and Elsa became the 5th element because she has powers that could complete the other spirits,and iduna and agnar have 2 daughter (elsa and anna) so the other reason why elsa became the 5th element is because she and anna will always have a strong connection,Also why she dont get the call when she is younger is because she CANT control her powers yet, thats my theory tho

  • @astridmustikasyamsuri6207
    @astridmustikasyamsuri6207 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK, so filling in with your theories, I made my theories:
    *IDUNA IS FROM CHIEF/ROYAL LINEAGE OR EVEN A SHAMAN FAMILY*
    Every tribe have their magic people that usually having this friendly relationship with guardian spirit, either the royal or the shaman, which I guess make her more in tune with the spirits ( as we saw her playing with gale) She probably did not know or understand her lineage or power fully as she left her people to get Agnarr to safety
    *[ Note: I think spirits reside in the forest or in upper north/Ahtohallan, Arendelle & other human settlement further down their land probably poor in magical energy or in this case natural quality, their magic can reach far beyond the forest as we see them using to terrorize the arendelle citizens, but they themselves probably choose not to bother stay around outside of their home ]*
    *THE 5TH SPIRIT IS THE ONE THAT GAVE A GIFT TO IDUNA*
    They said the spirits are the one that gave Iduna a gift, but I think we know which one that ACTUALLY gave her a magical child, the one that meant to be a bridge, it was the 5th one. I probably sound overthinking right now, but what if, the 5th gave herself up to Iduna & manifest as Elsa. When Elsa was born, her element (ice) shows each spirits' characteristic : ice originated from water & wind(temperature) combined, hard as earth and can be dangerous like fire.
    Elsa was the 5th, since the 5th sense disturbance in the balance & feel the need to balanced things out, but it can't do it pretty well when it have no physical form, the conflict is between spirit & human, at least it need to be visible like gale at the very basic, but 5th reside in Ahtohallan, a glacier, if it looks too spirit-ish ( made from ice/snow ) people won't trust it, if it looks too human spirits won't either. So it manifest as a magical person, it gave up itself as a gift to Iduna for showing a compassion & act like you know, a peace maker would be. It reborn as Elsa, have no memories of it's original form or whatsoever.
    *AHTOHALLAN HOLD THE DECEASED'S MEMORIES*
    Ahtohallan was the 5th spirit's home, the reason is I think the 5th is related to souls aside of just raw force of nature. That means... Ahtohallan is also a place that hold the deceased's memories aside from just hold every truth like some super computer...This explains why Iduna was there, she drowned after all, the sea probably carried her memories to Ahtohallan.
    *THE MIST IS THE 4 SPIRITS DOING*
    why we bother with this mist? the forest is home for other 4 elemental spirits NOT THE 5TH, so the 5th is like this neutral one here when the conflict happened, it meant to be a neutral one that provide the spirit & human balance after all, so unless the 4 spirit convinced that the past wrong doing can be fixed & both side swore for peace, the spirits won't open the door for anyone. The spirit was awakened as Elsa's magic matured, they recognize it as the 5th, but enraged as why it is in arendelle, not Ahtohallan, so they probably thought that by causing chaos in Arendelle, the 5th will be back to where it belongs (conveniently it saves Arendelle's people from big water released from the destroyed dam too)
    *WHO IS CALLING*
    It is what remains from the 5th, when it sacrifice it's power to Elsa, it's memory stuck in Ahtohallan, the 4 spirits, like Nokk, test if Elsa is really 5th not just some Arendelle brat that stole magic from spirit. Elsa/5th realize it is where it belongs, in Ahtohallan, they merged & Elsa now have power up & basically becoming the snow queen. Elsa always feel estranged from her surrounding because... she never meant to be there & she have a job to finished
    [ Note: even though I called Elsa as a very basic, on soul level is the 5th, but her personality is one of her own. Technically Avatar, that's that :))
    *HOW IT GIVE FROZEN 1 LOT OF SENSE*
    Iduna know there were chaos between her tribe & Arendelle, she was afraid that even if she saved the crown prince she will get persecuted in a way, so she hide her ancestry (just like Andersens' little mermaid can't tell the prince she saved the truth of who actually save him) Iduna know her people can coexist with spirits, but NONE OF THE NORTHULDRAN ARE MAGICAL, so how the f she know what the heck Elsa is, it's not like the 5th coming to her like Gabriel to Virgin Mary that she's about to have a messiah for a child. She accept her daughter's uniqueness anyway, even Agnarr seems OK until it accidentally harms Anna & almost froze her brain, he just a worried parent! Imagine him having a magic hater father & now his daughter is magical & have the possibility to murder the other one if her power grow out of control, he don't know shit what to do aside from the trolls. He willingly go with Iduna to the dark sea for Elsa, if that's not parental love IDK what it is.
    Elsa, in this movie still afraid of her power, let alone hear the call, the moment she harm Anna make her absolutely anxious & view her power as a curse, not a part of herself. In the end of Frozen 1, Elsa learn that she should not be afraid of herself, but we can't deny a kingdom with a magical queen as the leader probably will bring problem to Arendelle, and she feel lonely being the only magical being in the kingdom no matter how her family's presence comfort her, in the second movie, Elsa found a place to belong & settle years of conflict along with Anna.

      The Fangirl True! Maybe you could say that Iduna didn’t leave the house often due to Elsa’s powers and their whole attitude towards her powers. Or when she did leave it was during the winter months or at night. Her regality could also be a factor because historically upperclass tend to favour pale complexion and use parasols and stuff to shield their skin from the sun whilst the lower class are tanned from working out in the sun all day... idk it is kinda strange that she looks so different though. Although that one guy that tried to help Christof propose to Anna had the same blue eyes as her. Although now that we know that Iduna experiences magic before its confusing that the parents were so scared of Elsa’s magic and wanted to hide her away

    I’ve got a question, wasn’t it confirmed a while back by the directors that Anna and Elsa’s parents were headed to a wedding? Or is that no longer the case, and if that’s true then does that debunk the theory that Anna and Elsa are related to Repunzel?

      Redbandit it’s not true coz they Elsa and anna realise the parents were looking for reasons for Elsas powers

      Chloe Mills so are we supposed to just disregard everything that the directors have told us about Anna and Elsa’s parents from the first movie?

      Redbandit it’s probably a rumour they they said it, or they said it and they changed their mind

      Chloe Mills well, at least now we can officially debunk the Tarzan theory

    She loved him Anna is proof. Thier relationship ead of co equals, what we saw of it. And iys implied by the way Anna decided that guy was matrshable, was not for advantageous reasons. If that was a thing in the royal concern, we'd see it reflected in the way the girls actions and the way their expectations of marriage would be colored.
