    I feel like Agnarr and Iduna only failed as parents in one regard:
    They misunderstood what "Fear will be your enemy" truly meant, which I suspect was because of the fear of magic which likely bloomed in the kingdom for a while after the conflict in the forest. Prior to the accident with Anna, Elsa had full, absolute control over her magic. The only reason the accident even happened at all wasn't due to lack of control over her magic- it was because she slipped. After that, once Fear entered Elsa's life, that's when she started to lose control over her powers. Agnarr and Iduna should have realized that at some point. Maybe not right away because what happened was nothing short of traumatic, but at some point down the line they should have realized it- especially Iduna who grew up around magic.
    That being said though, it wasn't entirely their fault. First of all, Grand Pabbie presented the issue to them wrong because he didn't have all the facts of the situation. Secondly in high stress situations the obvious can sometimes be the hardest thing to see.
    Agnarr and Iduna did the best they could in their situation. Mistakes were made, but they dedicated their lives to trying to help Elsa so that she and Anna could eventually be reunited.

    People saying Iduna should have known better because she knew about magic as a Northuldran is so annoying. Even the Northuldran were shocked to see Elsa’s powers in the enchanted forest. I think it’s really different when you are interacting with magical spirits vs. having magical powers yourself. No one had seen a human with magical powers, so she couldn’t have known how to teach Elsa to control her magic or the things Elsa was experiencing, which is why she tried her best to find out how they could best support their daughter.

    • @lovedbygrace8002
      @lovedbygrace8002 4 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      jmcheang THANK YOU! None of the Northuldran people had powers themselves. They were used to magic found in nature, but Elsa was completely new territory, even for her mother. People are missing this point because we as an audience are used to seeing Elsa with magic. Even her mother, part of the oldest family, was researching Elsa’s powers and where they came from. Then her father grew up believing that magic and the Northuldra people killed his father, so of course he would react in a completely different way. He watched his father die, and now his daughter almost died because of magic.

      I've just finished reading the book "Frozen 2: Dangerous Secrets: The Story of Iduna and Agnarr" by Mari Mancusi. It's a beautiful, faithful telling of the story of Elsa and Anna's parents. How they fell in love and when Iduna finally revealed her secret to Agnarr.
      It follows you've said here pretty closely, with some minor changes.
      I would love to see an on-screen adaption of Iduna and Agnarr's story. Even with the dark and sad ending, it's beautiful story that shows a lot of hope when we see their actions later made by their daughter’s.

      But teaching Elsa to not be afraid n then locking her up in a room isolated from everyone, "teaching her to control her powers n clearly seeing that they just get worse because she becomes more afraid... They should've done more to help her. It may be annoying to hear but when u want to solve a problem, u have to try different things to find what works. It makes no sense to stay stuck to something that doesn't solve the problem itself

    I still have mixed feelings about the King and Queen. A part of me understands that they were trying to figure out what to do for Anna and Elsa, but a part of me feels that when they could’ve handle the situation differently upon seeing that what they were doing wasn’t working for their children. It’s not like they were doing this on purpose and hindsight is 20/20, but still.

    • @aussiebird14
      @aussiebird14 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It seems the main reason people think they’re bad parents is the misinterpreted message from the trolls. I think it would have been a good idea as parents to have Elsa go on more frequent trips outside and to discuss and work with the trolls more. Why ask help of people who study/understand a problem better only once if the problem is persistent? Only for this do I still have mixed feelings.
      She was clearly riddled with anxiety and I can understand that sometimes it’s hard to recognize that in the people close to you. Especially in lighter cases since our society tries so hard to hide/ignore it, but often times when things are hard, you need to go out and clear your mind, sort out your thoughts and get help. It would be a good message for mental health patients about getting counseling. But this kind of reaction is unfortunately still very common in the world, so I don’t blame them. I only started getting help in my 20s. My mom was shocked to hear that I felt I needed it. I think mental health is still a mystery to most people as Elsa’s powers were here and the solution may not come to mind as quickly or clearly (if at all) as someone catching a cold. They did their best with what they knew. They unfortunately focused on the wrong issue: the what not the why.

    @dawnshyre4995 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    If you want more backstory or have questions, I highly suggest Dangerous Secrets: The Story of Iduna and Agnarr.
    Common questions:
    How did he not recognize her? He met a lot of new people that day, only caught a glimpse of her, then suffered a serious head injury (unconscious for three days), so of course he doesn't remember. Iduna did sneak into Arendelle on a wagon like in the film, but knowing that Arendellians were actually not fond of the Northuldra, she concealed her identity, even from Agnarr as they grew up to be friends, for fear that he would dislike her as well. Also like the film, she eventually confesses where she's from, but that doesn't happen for many years.
    Why do they hide Elsa? Because Iduna has had to hide her identity and Agnarr had to hide his fear and stress to seem like a strong king despite being just a teenager. That's what they've learned to do to stay safe.

    I’m confused. Did Agnar forget Iduna was from the enchanted forest? Like I know he got knocked out but that doesn’t really make sense? Because I’d think that if they were having this conversation as married adults he’d know what her family history is and where she actually came from? So am I missing something?

    • @lucybufton7147
      @lucybufton7147 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Iduna was from a magic forest yes, but in the forest the magic comes from the spirits and they never knew a human to have magic within them. Thing of the people of the forest as being similar to benders from avatar the last airbender whereas Elsa is more like a source of magic. Even with them knowing of Iduna's past, they still don't know how to teach Elsa properly.

King Agnarr and Queen Iduna (Anna and Elsa's parents) were about to leave for their voyage to Ahtohallen, when Iduna tells Agnarr that it was time for them to confess Elsa's powers to Anna. Agnarr agreed to have them tell Anna once they returned from their trip. Iduna and Agnar hiding Elsa's powers to the Kingdom reminds of how Russia's Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra kept Prince Alexei's hemophilia illness to the public for the fear of criticism and public panic since he was the only male heir to the throne. Sometimes hard decisions had to be made even if it might look wrong from the eyes of some people, just like how Anna decided to destroy the dam even if it will destroy Arendelle Castle, some people disagree with it while some think it's the only way.

    Just a thought: what if Iduna was representative of air/wind, just as the Wokk is of water, monsters are of earth, and the cute critter is of fire- and HER leaving is what caused the fog? As many have discussed there are actually 8 spirits, couldn't the reverse of the 4 already deciphered are ice (water), light (fire) dark (earth), and energy (air). I would assume that light and dark could be figured by the books in the secret room/Ahtohallan even as they finally show Kristoff's background (possibly northuldran parents- perhaps the ones that got the prince to safety- due to the reindeer connection, plus the rock troll foster magic means SOMETHING) and their marriage. That could lead to a baby ("Samantha', to use the adlibbing snowman/memory waters) who is energy, and fostered by her aunt in Ahtohallan. Of course, I would love to add in that Hans was following the ORIGINAL story, and had a bit of ice/mirror lodge in his eye/spirit (depending on the version you read) to alter him temporarily. It would explain the stark change from when he tried to save Elsa from the Wesleton baddies and he suddenly had her in a dungeon. Perhaps it was dislodged when all was melting and Anna belted him. It would be nice if he was able to escape his toxic family- or be put in charge of that country instead of them (because, who better deserves an uprising?)

      It's easy for us to answer now in this day and age to be compassionate and understanding, but if you were to put yourself in the time period and setting that the Frozen stories take place, i.e. the 1800s, would you or anyone have these same beliefs? Do you know that we as a society were still actively enslaving/colonizing people, pushing one religion on another, killing in the service of one god or another, etc. at this time? New industries were forming but with this came pollution and unclean, unsafe factory-working environments.
      LOL, I'm not trying to make excuses for Agnarr and Iduna but understand that the choices they made with Elsa and Anna came out of a lack of information not willful malice against their daughters. It's not like Ahtohallan gave Iduna a book on how to raise a magical child. That would have been nice, but she and Agnarr got zero instructions other than a vague reading from Pabbie, which like most Oracle of Delphi readings, can be taken in two ways, leading to misunderstandings.

      There could be something Called being a Protective Parent plus they were the Royal Family who have had a Kingdom to worry about not exactly just 2 Daughters maybe it's hard being a Parent and also being the King and Queen of a Kingdom at the same time and how exactly would you guys have wanted the Parents to try and understand Elsa? don't you think maybe that's why they left to Antahollan? and that maybe Nobody might have ever truly understood Elsa and how could they? seems to me that's kinda something that was going on with Elsa during Frozen 2 and possibly at least part of the Reason as to why she Abdicated and has let Anna become the Queen of Arendelle and I think that if I were in Elsa and Anna's shoes I'd probably NEVER Resent my Parents for trying their best to try and help me and my sister and I would NEVER become an ungrateful disrespectful Idiot who says stuff like "I hate my parents who loved me and tried to protect me" and I'd certainly NEVER Call them the "worst parents ever" because why would I and how the heck could do I dare to do that?
      my parents and I are kinda a little bit similar to Elsa and her Parents somehow they also just sometimes simply try and protect me and they simply try to care for me I LOVE them but every few now and then they'd SCREAM at me possibly even threaten but not all the time or even most of the time no I don't think I'd call them Violent or necessarily plain abusive and toxic evil people who deserve nothing but hate pain and punishment and I come from and live in a place where I've been taught it's important to Respect and Honor your Parents maybe some are better at that than others like I said I LOVE my Parents appreciate them and even somewhat admire them since for starters I'm NOT their ONLY Daughter but their eldest of 4 Daughters plus they kinda have their whiny somewhat seemingly arrogant selves to deal with for the past 20 years but I don't think I EVER actively try so hard to please them or gain their approval but it's like I HAVE to gain their Approval and work my lazy week and ALWAYS Tired butt off trying to please them since hey they apparently know everything they're always right and I'm ALWAYS wrong I kinda still hope people don't try and insult my parents or anything I might NEVER be able to truly imagine my life with out them and I don't think I'd want a life with out them maybe unless I can actually become financially independent or whatever

    Great video! I loved the additional insight we got into Elsa and Anna’s family in FROZEN 2, but someone please explain to me why Elsa didn’t go to Anna’s coronation!

      jf k I suppose it could have taken place afterwards, but the setup looks like she was just coronated, “presenting her majesty, Queen Anna..” for one and Kristoff being dolled up for another. The movie didn’t make a big deal out of it if she was indeed coronated at the end, which I found disappointing, it should be a big character arc for our Anna!

    Could Iduna have been some kind of “royalty” in the forest? Also what happened to her family, could they have died in the war with Agnaar’s father?

    Where are the other scenes from? I’ve seen both movies and never saw some of these
    SN: I think they made it off the boat. Even though there was the scene of them holding each other, they made it off somehow, ended up in Africa, and had Tarzan... Lol just my lil thought 🤷🏽‍♀️

    These scenes with young them, to about 1:30... where they come from? I don't remember seeing them in the movie...
    And this deleted scene... seems so cool! And important. How could they even delete it? The movie would only benefit from that.
    (Also opposing purity to propriety is utterly ridiculous - these are not opposiet, on the contrary, they are almost synonymes!)

    There is a fair bit of debate on whether or not Elsa should have been the fifth element. Since ice is merely an aspect of water. We're instead, people offered that it should have been Anna who stood in sent her, representing more of the element of love. Especially since Love play the food part of the first movie and even arguably second movie. Plus this was getting Anna a bigger and more important role in the movie.
