Class of 2020 grad here. I can say without a doubt this video was a great motivator/reminder that dentistry has the ability to make clinicians successful for a number of different reasons within and out of the profession.
Joel this is one of the best videos that I have watched about dentistry. Dr. Flesher has such an interesting story and learned a lot. Thank you for the valuable video! saved :)
I'm glad people are starting to realize this. Many people say "don't get into dentistry for the money" and that is true to an extent, but dentistry gives you an advantage over many other professions since dentists tend to earn more than a lot of other professions. Your average dentist will have more capital to invest in other businesses, stock/options, or whatever else it may be than your average business analyst/software engineer/etc.
Just wanted to drop a note...I just came across your channel through the TH-cam algorithm and I am happy I did. I'm 13 years out and a practice owner for 11 years in Brooklyn and I am learning A LOT from you. I appreciate you, keep it up.
Hey Joel I wanted to thank you because I’ve always wanted to be a dentist and you’ve answered so many questions I’ve had! I’m starting college this year and look forward to the future.
As always Joel amazing stuff!! It’s great to see that you’re forwarding the discourse of decision making post-dental school. So many of the questions and extremely real and will be faced by all of us. Keep up the great work you’re inspiring so many!
Holy S--t Daren is an absolute GOAT. This guy has to be very busy but I'm sure he loves it. Great video Joel, keep it up these videos are very helpful.
Hey Joel. Love the videos! Would you be able to interview an Endodontist that’s been in the workforce for at least a year now? Similar to what you did with the Oral Surgery student. Keep up the great work.
1. Know your worth 2. Know your next move 3. Rewards are just around the corner 4. Work smarter not harder 5. Invest for improvements 6. Try new adventures 7. Think with a good heart
This is very inspirational and thinking out of the box! Most people do what they learned to do in school which is to be an employee/dentist. I also aspire to use dentistry to help me make money so that I can use that money and make it work for me to create a passive income so that if I wanna vacation for long periods of time or just dont want to go to work anymore, I can have that option. I am graduating dental school in a few months and the goal for now is to own multiple practices. Will be hard to do competing with all the DSO’s we have now but I still think there is still a lot of opportunities with dentistry. You cant own a dental practice unless you have a dental license which definatly lowers the competition considerably.
He’s in Oklahoma! If you can live in such an unsaturated market then it’s relatively Very easy to start a practice and have patients. There’s even less competition for business ventures - less entrepreneurs with less money. Let’s not forget that many people can’t have the same life as him in Oklahoma. A person of color or someone who’s queer? Are they also supposed to risk their quality of life and personal safety
Hey Joel! I love this video. I was literally just thinking about this kind of thing a few days ago before you released this video. Great content. If you can, please please please post the whole interview and make more content in this direction! I love your channel. It helps me out a ton. Keep it up!
This is so inspiring! One day it would be nice to open my own practice. I'd always wanted to be a pilot from about 6 and before that a dentist! Then, I moved back to becoming a general dentist again! It excites me doing new, different and sometimes challenging things every working day! Thank you for this again!
@@jmey 😂 I never knew that! Well that's what I thought, you cant be a pilot and dentist in your spare time but you can be a dentist and fly when your not working in a private plane. Thanks!
Almost the same for me, wanted to become a pilot untill i turned 7, than i started having eyesight problems. Gave up on the dream and has since focused on dentistry! now im hoping to get into glider planes later in life :)
Very interesting video. I feel like currently there are less opportunities to get out on your own in a short period of time 1-2 years out of school nowadays. Those stories I hear are from graduates around 2015 and earlier. Potentially due to at their time less competition, less debt, lesser bank requirements. For example in my current area every time I set my sights on a potential area/demographic search that would be good for a start up, there’s already a DSO in the works. When I look for a practice to buy, they are being quickly bought out by small groups with none left for a solo practitioner to buy. Associate jobs are paying less and less so it’s harder to save up for a practice quickly enough.
tbh, too loaded of a question for me to answer. my situation will be different than others, and what's right for me won't be right for you (or another reading this)
I have 370k in 3 rentals here in Costa rica 750k in savings invested in Bonds My private clinic no debt 3 floor mansion no debt 0$ in debt, im 35yo... Planning to retire at 40 with mgtow lifestyle... Dentistry is stressful and your back, shoulders and wrists suffer a lot. Not worth it

on my radar for the future, though not immediate
Channel is gold. Would be great if you can do something about patient communication. Being a professional robot all the time is so tiring
Your channel is the best dental channel I've found! I'm looking for jobs right now and I'm finding your videos so helpful :)

there's something about dentists that they love getting into aviation later their careers - so maybe your "dentist and" could be "dentist and pilot"

@@eriksvensson2098 oh cool! I wish you all the best
@@machaviationofficial I’ve been wanting to become an astronaut for the longest time, but am currently pursuing dentistry. Maybe after.
Amazing video Joel! Question, how competitive is orthodontic residency and do you think specializing is worth it financially?
ortho is pretty competitive (especially GPA wise). you can do well as an ortho, but as always follow your interests and the money will come
Idk why I dropped out of dental school for law , seeing the income and and less debt, makes me regret my decision
enjoy the journey :)
Excellent video. Thank you ..my daughter is applying to dental school
Providing a lot of value, thanks for this.
Thank you for the great video!!! Do you think other clinician such as physicians in the US would be able to do the similar things??
This guy is truly inspiring.
Really great video. How much does this good sir make as a practice owner? He said he hopes to be out of clinical in 5 years which is so commendable.
These are so incredibly informational
ty Shaan! glad you're finding them useful

Awesome..I guess I have seen you in Thunder Bay.
Great documentary
It’d be great to hear you speak about dental hygiene as an alternative to becoming a dentist.
interesting idea!

still opportunities out there, I know a 2019 grad who now owns two busy practices! it can be done
Great video, loved the passive income topic!
ty! thinking about how I can do more like this
Great video! Can you turn off/down the music?
Is Deren a general dentist or is he specialised?
Interesting video

Wow. Wow wow wow
You have to check who your partners are. Some may be hangers on waiting for your cash. It's like feeding alligators. Just be careful
