I used think pele was overrated. Then I was blown away by seeing his performance at 1958. I have never seen any seventeen year old play that way. Now I accepted that he is the greatest. People say that in Pele's era football was inferior to today and that's why they rate Messi up, but nobody does ever mention the conditions of the pitches in the 50's and 60's which were a disaster! You can even see in this video how the ball bounces with every touch compared to today's incredible high standard pitches at the top of professional football. Look at Pele, despite the pitch was uneven due to the grass not being cut evenly and the ground in it itself, he still dribbles like he was playing in today's game! Well Pele played in bad pitches but Messi gets tackled by 3 or more players even the whole team. People come up with different tactics to stop him and they analyse him but he seems to always destroy them with the same foot and dribbling style. He even plays vs ruthless and good defenders like Sergio Ramos and Virgil van dijk but he still gets past them. Both Messi and Pele are equal. Pele is better at heading, he is physically stronger etc. But Messi has better vision, passing, dribbling etc. Let's not compare them and thank God for making Messi and Pele a football player.

Both absolute greats - Almost unfair to compare. If I had to pick one than probably I would go for Pele. He seemed to have all the weapons. He scored goals without needing to dribble past a whole lot of players every time - He seemed to do it a bit easier, I would say especially the headers which seems to always be the winning play in real tight matches. La diferencia de espacios del fútbol de antes con el de ahora es impresionante. Hoy al jugador lo tenés pegado y sin estacio . Antes tenían más lugar para desenvolver su juego . Hoy es muy reducido .
Pelé jogava com uniformes mais pesados, bolas mais pesadas e que encharcavam quando molhavam, contra zagueiros mais brutos, numa época que nem tinha cartão amarelo. Os gramados quase sempre eram horríveis. E mesmo assim olha o que ele fazia, e não tinha Beckenbauer que parasse! Hoje em dia, tem tecnologia no uniforme, nos treinos, na alimentação, na concentração, nas chuteiras, as bolas são mais leves e rápidas, os gramados são um tapete. O dia que o Messi jogou no péssimo gramado do Estádio Nilton Santos, ele arregou. Acho que qualquer comparação de jogadores dos dias atuais com Pelé, Garrincha, Puskás e outros é puro desrespeito, sem falar no anacronismo.

People say that in Pele's era football was inferior to today and that's why they rate Messi up, but nobody does ever mention the conditions of the pitches in the 50's and 60's which were a disaster! You can even see in this video how the ball bounces with every touch compared to today's incredible high standard pitches at the top of professional football. Look at Pele, despite the pitch was uneven due to the grass not being cut evenly and the ground in it itself, he still dribbles like he was playing in today's game! Well Pele played in bad pitches but Messi gets tackled by 3 or more players even the whole team. People come up with different tactics to stop him and they analyse him but he seems to always destroy them with the same foot and dribbling style. He even plays vs ruthless and good defenders like Sergio Ramos and Virgil van dijk but he still gets past them. Both Messi and Pele are equal. Hoje em dia, tem tecnologia no uniforme, nos treinos, na alimentação, na concentração, nas chuteiras, as bolas são mais leves e rápidas, os gramados são um tapete. O dia que o Messi jogou no péssimo gramado do Estádio Nilton Santos, ele arregou. Acho que qualquer comparação de jogadores dos dias atuais com Pelé, Garrincha, Puskás e outros é puro desrespeito, sem falar no anacronismo.
