  • Today we'll be examining Greenlight and AutoArt's take on the MAD MAX (Last of the V8) Police Interceptor; in 1/18th scale. Both are diecast metal w/ plastic parts. The AutoArt does feature a fully detailed trunk that opens up (which I forgot to show in this video... opps!). Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe for more video updates! -See ya guys soon!

    I saw a Greenlight version online and they do apparently now paint the "BF Goodrich Radial T/A" on the sides of the tyres. They may have made other refinements too. Anyway, great comparison video! Good camera work!

    Just to help you understand about the lack of badging on the car, the Tuned Version means this car is depicted from the very first scene in the garage with the mechanic and Goose introducing Max to the car. The car was being fine tuned befor the badges were added. So the Tuned Version is not suppose to have the badging and is correct. 😉

    • @Pedal2Metal_on_YouTube
      @Pedal2Metal_on_YouTube  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont need help in understanding. AutoArt did not procure licensing rights, hence the total lack of the words Mad Max, mfp or Warner bros on the packaging. I can see your theory, but when you view the famous 1979 garage intro scene, goose is standing in front of the fender, then he walks away and the mechanic also blocks the view. So, we are never shown the car's fender very well due to the darkness, as well. Do they actually show the car without the badging in the first movie? If so, I apologize, but iv8e never noticed that.

      Tuned version refers to it being a custom version of the standard XB Falcon GT. Autoart uses tuned for like custom kinda if you look at their stock

    • @HappyDude1
      @HappyDude1 ปีที่แล้ว

      its true in the very first scene the car is not ready yet
      its just a tuned car and has no badges

    I personally coughed up the cash and went with AutoArt. I ordered movie accurate decals for badges and MFP plate.
    That being said, some of the Greenlight's flaws/inaccuracies can be fixed. The rear reflectors can always be pried out with an X-acto knife, glued and flipped. You can buy 1/18 BFGoodrich tires on Ebay and try swapping them. If they don't quite get on the rims a dremel tool can hollow out the tire rubber. And should the overall paint job be that nice on a post-apocalyptic car that just came out of a makeshift garage which used scavenged parts from various cars anyway, as presented in the original movie?

    I just Purchased a Green light version of the interceptor and Yes there are differences between the two models such as the paint finishes, details, and features like the police siren , and radio voice sounds on the Auto Art version .
    But netpicking aside , The green light version is still petty well done for a $50 model , And I think that these comparisons is somewhat excessive and unfair to compare a model from Auto Art that is 5 times more expensive as the Green light version .( The AutoArt version is now going at astronomical prices of $300.09usd to as high as $ 2800.00 USD !!!!! On the web .... Yes that much ... The latter is obviously someone scalping and gouging the price but you get the point.For Collectors like myself who can't or won't pay prices like that for Limited amount of AutoArt models out there the Green light model is the only option .. And a not bad of an option at that
    I think that if you want a 1/18 Road warrior interceptor NOWS the time to get one because a lot of people will purchase these and they will go up in price and become harder and more expensive to get.

    • @dangiambrone7350
      @dangiambrone7350 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's ok to compare the two imo, pointing out the differences and the pros and cons; just be mindful of the price differences. That said, and as you alluded to, I don't think that it's fair to be too harsh on the piece which is considerably cheaper; if anything I would go harder on the more expensive item. The Green Light version looks fantastic to my eyes, "I reckon you got a bargain".

    The Greenlight car does have that high rake on it which gives it a cooler looking drag look stance. The Auto art sits dead level which doesn't look quite as cool. But the Auto art has far better detailing and the proportions of the car and wheels look correct. The air dam on the Greenlight is slightly bigger vertically than it is on the real car. When looking at the real car from the side the bottom edge of the air dam should be basically dead level and in line with the underside of the car. From the side on the Greenlight the bottom edge of the air dam is lower than the underside of the car. They are both great models though and both have their strengths and weaknesses. I wish the wheels on the Greenlight were deeper like the Auto art. The dishes aren't nearly deep enough.

That limited edition had the fuel cells, breakaway front and a ton of miniature figures, including a little can of Dinki-Di and a knife that is sheathed by the detonator. But that sold out fast. I have both weathered and unweathered versions. After the demand on those Autoart made the unlicensed version you see without the movie accurate interior or fuel cells.

    It would almost be worth buying a greenlight and modifying it for a really detailed model and keeping an AutoArt stock. It's probably never really going to appreciate as much as the AutoArt, if they indeed do at all. A lot of collectables appeal to the generations they are relevant to. For example, in thirty more years pokemon could be worth a lot more than say, 1960's Tonka Toys are because the people they were relevant to that originally grew up them eventually die out.

    The car never fucking had the defrost strips on the back window, the taillights are wrong, the brake cooler vents are in the wrong place, . Autoart fucked up bad on this one. The greenlight is more accurate to the screen car.

      How do you know the real car never had defrost strips? The tail lights are super accurate, I'm looking at actual movie stills from '79 and the tail end looks great on the AA. What do you see that is wrong? I'm just curious. In person the two cars are night & day, I hate to say that because it gets people so upset, but there is a huge difference in quality.

      Because I know the history of the build of the car.

    You lost me at "I didn't get time to research" thereby undermining the very purpose of this video!!!

      The purpose of the video was to compare two diecast manufacturers. When I said about research, I meant the actual 1:1 scale hero car that was used.
