After ruptering a coolant line while driving, my girlfriends 1995 Suzuki sidekick 4 door 4wd 1.6L 16 valve blew the head gasket. We decided to replace the entire head and this is the process I undertook. It should be a similar process to the 8 valve motor as well.
    TIPS:
    - disregard the valve lash that is stated in video and use setting stated in repair manual. I set mine right after filming the video, idk what i was saying.
    - Mate the head gasket with the cylinder head after spraying and then set the cylinder head down. The gasket will fit onto dowels on the head and its easier to place the cylinder head onto the motor after that.
    - Rear distributor housing goes on after the cylinder head is on and the camshaft is reinstalled. Use black RTV on all flat surfaces (in video i only put it around oring area which leaked after) on that housing to prevent pesky leaking. Dont be shy with the RTV, this area is know for leaking.
    - Timing in video is set to cylinder one. If you rotate the cam cog to the notch at the top, while keeping to crank cog where it is, you will be at cylinder 4. Either way just make sure the distributor is pointing at the right plug wire.

No silicone on those paper gaskets. I know this is an old video but in the future all you need os is clean dry mating surfaces and the gasket. Thats it.

How many hours did this whole job take?

If you keep it simple, it can take 2 days. Around 8-10 hours a day. I don't suggest it. Take your time. If it's just the head gasket leave everything else attached and remove as a complete situation.

It can be done fast but turn around time depends on a mavhine shop. Otherwise if you follow my lead and dont deck the head and buy a new one, then 3 days working day and night.

It's not like the battery will go dead in a day if placed on the ground.

Of course not but discharge can take place through the plastic container. Better safe than sorry.
