He needs what all mental health patients need. A supportive environment that includes friends as well as the professional people to help him out. All mental health patients are "treated" within a system that doesn't really function as anything more than a giant bandaid. They are often traumatised by the treatment they receive (and the attitudes of those who are meant to help them) , and become "problems" that are hidden away and who die far earlier than healthy people because they never receive the best possible treatment or helped to manage their challenges away from the hospital/facility. Its like that saying about not changing anything and expecting different results. Also these patients are often treated as though being medicated (prescribed antidepressants, mood stabilisers, etc) is the miracle they needed. The attitude of "just take your tablets because they will make your condition disappear" is still very common. What is needed is a complete system which teaches mental health patients about all of the options available to them, to learn how to manage their life to get healthy mentally and stay that way. It should be normal to use medication as one part of the system alongside other therapies and that patients are able to reduce or stop their medication as they improve and with the help of their team of doctors, specialists, etc. Instead medication is the only option, many people are forced to continue to take it, the doses usually increase the longer they are on the medication and they may experience horrible side effects. So not only have most mental health patients experienced a mental health challenge which is confusing and scary in itself, they also experienced friends and family not being supportive, often harsh treatment and attitudes from both the people meant to be treating them and people who don't understand or have empathy, as well as medication side effects and a reduction in their quality of life. Most often they have lost their job and any sense of purpose or usefulness. Mental health challenges affect every area of a patients life, maybe we need to be treating the whole person not just the "problem". The world thinks its fixed because they take a tablet twice (or three) daily. Blessings, Dot

If he hasn't eaten in 4 days then he probably needs the sugar just as much as he needs the insulin and his medication for schizophrenia. I'd assume that the person who gave him the tea with sugar and the sandwich would have known about his diabetes and taken it into account. I think the drip they had going in his arm had insulin in it. I also think that giving him something to eat and drink was one way of getting him to be quiet, at least for a little while. It's also one way to calm him down if he is experiencing anxiety about being in the hospital again. They didn't say what type of schizophrenia he is diagnosed with but I'm assuming that, like many people with it, he experiences paranoia and anxiety as some of his common symptoms. He may be asking for cigarettes as one way to reduce stress /soothe himself. Not the best way to help himself but better than doing nothing or doing something worse like hurting himself or others. Blessings, Dot
One of my apartment neighbours is a 78-year-old untreated diabetic. She can no longer shop for herself, so she has other tenants go out and buy Sprite (a nasty soda made of high fructose corn syrup) for her. It's what she drinks instead of tea, coffee, water or alcohol.

I realise that depression is a genuine and complex neurologically-based problem, and I'm sympathetic. That man that wants a cigarette is what causes a headache for us in healthcare. They are wery selfish and use allt of time and money from society. There’s kids in there and people dying and hes there for the 19 time screaming for a sigarette. Healtcare takers run around like crazy and they dont understand that they are not the center of the universe and that there are people with higher needs then them.
@@rosa733 I’ve had every obstacle thrown my way is the point I was making….. and I still walk with my head high because I have integrity and I don’t treat people like that. I can’t stand people that do that.
you do realise he’s hyperglycaemic? he’s also schizophrenic. he has mental health issues and a dangerously high blood sugar because he is diabetic. have a little care and be kind to people who struggle with mental health.
If you are in really severe pain like 9 of out 10, you have troubble speaking.. 10 is passing out from the pain.. So probably more anxiety than severe physical pain.. I have a client who are convinced she is suffocating when there IS no issue, but she is 100% determined. She can talk, scream breathe without any issue, but she is 110% convinced.. How do you deal with someone who isn't rational at all & no use for reality..
In the U.S. pain is whatever a person says it is. And unfortunately as healthcare workers have to treat people as if they are in the amount of pain they claim to be in. I say unfortunately because obviously not everyone claiming to be experiencing a 8-10 pain level isn't actually in that amount of pain but we must medicate them accordingly.
Yep, mom needs to back off! Shr is not helping with her critical attitude. The Dr will decide what to ask. His andwers to his mom will not change a diagnosis. Mom should be supportive, not attacking!!

so all these patients agreed to be on this video cause all of them are wearing lapels
Yes. I imagine far more patients are filmed, and these are just the most interesting cases. "The Supervet" has the exact setup: Families in the waiting room are miked to record their chatter (set to the same sappy music when aired), then the recording continues inside the exam room.
lol saludos desde Costa Rica :) couldn't they just give that guy who wants a cigarettes a nicotine patch? that's what they would do for the other crazies who smoked when I was in the detox / crazy ward jaja
That’s sop in most psych wards… I guess in the er they don’t have the staff. Maybe slap a nicotine patch on him to help him temporarily?
9:03 I have a yein sister so i can understand
Honestly, men have no pain tolerance! Lol
I'm curious, if an American comes over for vacation and gets hurt or real sick, will we receive care?
Yes, but there is a charge for the services. Just like if I visit the U.S. it is very expensive to go to hospital.
Yes, you will, you'll probably have to use your travel insurance or pay out of pocket, but it's not too much.
No, the hospital will let you die
That man that wants a cigarette is what causes a headache for us in healthcare. They are wery selfish and use allt of time and money from society. There’s kids in there and people dying and hes there for the 19 time screaming for a sigarette. Healtcare takers run around like crazy and they dont understand that they are not the center of the universe and that there are people with higher needs then them.
And it's people like you that don't understand mental health patients and have NO empathy for them that should not be working in health care.
Unless you walk in his shoes you will not understand. He sounds desperate because you cannot hear him does not mean he is not screaming.
Is the man screaming really in pain?😟
With mental illness, you never know....the brain can MAKE a person feel pain that is not there. It still feels real to the person it is happening to
If you are in really severe pain like 9 of out 10, you have troubble speaking..
Brain injuries can cause severe aggression.
In the U.S. pain is whatever a person says it is. And unfortunately as healthcare workers have to treat people as if they are in the amount of pain they claim to be in. I say unfortunately because obviously not everyone claiming to be experiencing a 8-10 pain level isn't actually in that amount of pain but we must medicate them accordingly.
@@nightnurse1178 maybe inside the hospital but not outside that setting.
what does the A stand for?? lol
Accident
I feel like you can have mental health issues and still be respectful enough to throw something in the bin. I mean that’s just being a complete *$!§!
The clot shot still doing its job.
My exact thought.
Everyone who is aware.
Yup..... it's so horrific!
Yup
this was filmed before then so its been happneing way before it
A person doesn't have to he an alcoholic. Clive chooses to drink.
What’s with the Mom and her giving the 3rd degree to her injured son. Wow! She is so confrontational!! Not helpful.
Yep, mom needs to back off! Shr is not helping with her critical attitude. The Dr will decide what to ask. His andwers to his mom will not change a diagnosis. Mom should be supportive, not attacking!!
Who cares the person or in this case the thing is BLACK
