    I have a brother like that woman's husband who is a total pessimist & hypochondriac. I was stressed out about another brother fighting cancer yet Mr Pessimist only ever talked about himself and his woo's. If he calls me i don't answer cos I can't deal with his BS, so this wife deserves a medal.

      My mom isn't quite as bad, but she "fires" doctors all the time because they don't give her what she demands. She's convinced she knows everything that wrong with her and refuses to accept any doctor that says otherwise. She thinks she's a doctor because she knows how to Google stuff.

    I knew it was a panic attack pretty quickly. Glad to see the er checked everything before reaching the conclusion. Panic attacks are miserable and can be hard to deal with. I hope everything goes well for the young man.

    • @junbh2
      @junbh2 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, and still good to check because you wouldn't want to miss something or make assumptions that turn out to be wrong. And because even if someone is panicking it doesn't necessarily mean they couldn't also have a medical problem.
      If someone is susceptible to panic attacks anyway, then serious medical symptoms would certainly be a possible trigger that might lead the person to panic.

    • @junbh2
      @junbh2 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Although, I feel like a few simple breathing exercises might have been helpful and could have been done without interfering with any of the tests. A lot of people coming into the ER could use some help dealing with fear and stress even when they do have something medically serious going on.

      @@JaniceWithTheTarlovCystsi don’t know where you live but I live in Ontario and I have been to emergency many times over 30 years due to an undiagnosed diseased gallbladder. I always got more than adequate pain relief with the strongest pain meds on offer. I also had a coil inserted to my lower abdomen through my neck while awake and they gave me fentanyl for it. They even asked me if I needed more fentanyl for the discomfort. I have a genetic collagen disorder which causes chronic body pain and I am treated with a Fentanyl patch and 4mg Dilaudid as needed for breakthrough pain. I think it’s your hospital or doctors in your area causing this ridiculous denial of real pain. I’ve lived in 3 provinces from one coast to the other and have never experienced an inattention to severe pain.

    Charge nurse Matt is wonderful. All the staff appear to be top notch. I’ve only been in the hospital, ER, twice here in the USA & once I was unconscious & the other time at 70 years young, I don’t know that I was treated with even half as much compassion & kindness as this group of A&E caregivers. Made me very sad & anxious as if I wasn’t worth the time or extra effort at my age.

    They treat them so well at Kings, especially if they are in pain they give them pain medication, here in the US they won’t, I went in with kidney stones and they treated me like I was a drug addict! Good thing I have a high pain tolerance!

      I beg to differ! Three years ago, a fall left me with both shoulders broken. In the ER, I was given an IV of pain medicine, I believe it was morphine, while I awaited my turn for my CT scan. I was given royal treatment in the ward for 3 days and I was allowed to go home into the care of my husband. Two days later I was told that I had future daily Physical Therapy appointments beginning in three weeks, and an appointment with a surgeon to be evaluated for surgery on my left shoulder.
      I add to this, any other dealings with hospitals, emergency rooms, ambulance service, and personal assistance from the fire department fellows when I was incapacitated, were handled with care and compassion. Please don’t paint all care services with whatever experience you have had. ❤

    A few Years ago, I thought I was having a heart attack. The pain was really bad. First the fire department paramedics first arrived then the Ambulance came they decided to take me to the hospital to check if I was having a heart attack. It turned out I was having a panic attack. Since then I have suffered a couple more panic attacks. One where I couldn’t breathe and my left arm felt paralyzed. The doctor and the nurse at the medical clinic were very good. They put me on oxygen and the nurse calmed me down. It turned out I was having an asthma attack and this caused my panic attack as I had never had an asthma attack before. Panic attacks are real and could be dangerous if you don’t have medical assistance.

      Is preventative dental care covered under the NHS? I have been assuming it isn't just because so many people's dental problems are so awful. And not orthodontic problems or anything like that. Literally large numbers of missing or rotten teeth! Which is pretty easily prevented with routine care.

    As someone who experienced a torn retina, start worrying about it if you get shadows starting at the edge of vision and coming in. In my a rising blackness. And sudden flashes in your eye. I waited 3 months to being it up to a gp and further 6 weeks to see the optometrist he suggested and then saw the ophthalmologist a few days later with his card in case it fully detached over the weekend. Yes, they are emergencies, but not to fret over from just some blurring.

      You should never just wait. I bent over to pick up a bag. When I stood up I had a horseshoe shaped black place. It took up about a third of my field of vision. Again don't wait. Go get it checked.

    I’ve never heard anyone outside of Newfoundland (where I was born and raised) talk about a bread poultice before. I had many in my childhood…splinters, stepping on dirty nails, bad scratches from dirty metal fencing, etc and they always did the trick. I never had a tetanus shot until I moved to the mainland (Ontario). Didn’t even know what a tetanus shot was for. Mom and Dad were very much about treating whatever was possible at home through old fashioned methods. I’d use a bread poultice on my own children if the need ever came up. With the state of healthcare now and waits for a doctor’s appointment potentially taking weeks, I’d rather try some good ol’ fashioned medicine during the long wait at least. :)

I had gotten so sick that I wasn’t eating very much because it took so much energy to prepare and eat something. I hadn’t realized I had gotten so sick. But the triage nurse sent me right back and I was admitted to the hospital in under two hours. It was a serious wake up call, now I pay more attention to how I’m feeling and try to take better care of myself. It’s been 4.5 years now, I call this my “second” life. I could have died. If I had waited another day or two, I probably would have ended up on a ventilator. I could tell that the medical staff were giving me simplified summaries of what was going on. But I was too tired to have a longer conversation or ask questions. Fortunately my mom traveled to be with me and I signed the paperwork for her to talk with the doctors. So she got the full story from the doctors. She filled in the holes when I was feeling better. I was glad she was there, if I had been put on a ventilator then I would have needed someone I trusted to speak for me. She also cared for me after I left the hospital which made a big difference.
      Now I’m working on living my second life the way I want to live and not to meet someone else’s standards. This life is mine and I will decide how I’m going to live it. I’m much happier with this way of living. I’m making my little corner of the world a better place. Very few people change the world, but I can change a small part of it and it makes a difference to the people I interact with.

      She said that people don’t see the other side of him and how he in turn, reassures her. She said when they first met, she was diagnosed with ME/chronic fatigue syndrome which led her to spiral downwards. But he supported her through her illness and she also says he does little sweet things to make her smile during their marriage. They are really total opposites in their personalities but sometimes that makes it work.

      Google says a donkey jacket is a type of thick work jacket (usually dark blue) that men wear who work outside. As for "eat Vic", I had to ask a British friend of mine, and she said she had no clue what it means, but in the context my guess is that it's Vick's VapoRub. It has menthol in it and helps clear the sinuses and lungs when you have a cold. Don't think you're supposed to eat it, though. lol

    This is why socialized medicine will fail (I'm in Canada and our health system is similar to Britain's ie: taxpayer paid and struggling), 3 cases here and 2 of them really had no business being the emergency - panic attack and floaters in the eye, both should have made an appt to see their GP

    • @dukkieb
      @dukkieb 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why doesn’t the ER triage nurse tell them to go see their GP or go home to get a bandaid/plaster? (Truly I am curious.) I realize in the evening and weekend GPs aren’t available, but really a sliver and small cuts can wait. And some of these people have waited 3 days to go to the ER anyway.

      This makes no sense, considering both patients sincerely believed they had life threatening conditions based off of concerning symptoms they had. The young man was worried about a punctured lung/heart issue and the older man was worried about a detached retina. Both of which, had they been true, would have required immediate medical attention which is what A&E is there for. Remember, these are laypersons, not medical professionals, so of course they couldn't have known the reality of their less-than-serious medical problems until they were made aware of them after thorough testing & care was given. I assume they were referred to a GP afterwards. What you're fearmongering about is not the horrors of "socialized medicine," it's literally how the hospital and medical system is supposed to work! Experiencing scary symptoms? Get to a doctor asap DUH! This is what every emergency PSA you're taught in school, work etc, urges you to do...

      Come to the US, where the quality of care and your ability to get it is determined by your ability to pay for it. Hospitals are only required to get you medically stable enough to no longer be at imminent risk of death if you can’t afford care. Even that minimum standard is being routinely challenged in court by politicians now. Worse, get injured at work through no fault of your own, and get trapped into the Workman’s Compensation scheme here, where you need a lawyer for every doctor visit and can subsequently be denied employment for having ever been injured at work in your lifetime.
      This is where Canada and the UK are headed, because you’re being convinced that Darwinian for-profit healthcare is the best solution for everyone.

      A true panic attack completely mimics a heart attack particularly in women. Crushing chest pain, sweating, etc. I was firmly told by ER docs to come in every time because of that. I haven’t had one for years, but am grateful that ER treated it seriously. 😢
