13:25 I think one simple micro error might have cost Dark the game here. The six lurkers are obviously the centerpiece of his army, and he burrows three of them to the north. Hero attacks along the south path, though, and those lurkers aren't initially shooting - when dark unburrows them to reposition, stalkers dive on them and they die - half of dark's main firepower basically did nothing in the fight.
More new strategies in a week than there are units in the game

Or one of the dumbest positioning areas zerg could even burrow his lurkers. There are 2 ramps. And he decides to be dumb about it and take the easiest engagement for splitting from a protoss perspective so his lurkers dont splash at all.
2 concaves and he decides the only way to defend is BEHIND the concave so protoss isnt stuck at a concave....
Hero was really on top of his game that series, he knew exactly what he was doing to manipulte darks encomomy that last game.
30 drones is massive. He rebuilt 30. That minerals and larvae that aren't making roaches.

Yeah I didn't believe it for a moment.
It now takes 3 attacks from an adept to kill a speed baneling instead of 4 (assuming even respective upgrades).
Banelings need 1 attack upgrade to 4-shot adepts, which was the same before the nerfs but said nerfs make the zerg melee attack upgrades worse so if the adepts incentivize the zerg to go for melee instead of range that's good.
These 2 never disappoint with their series. Always fun to watch.

A unlikley chance to be heard by the people who can relay this idea to the balance team. But a PvP only change that would help stablize the early game without effecting the other matchups at all.
Make the adept itself stop shades. You can have adepts in doorway blocking passivly no more building a battery. And maybe have it so its not cluncky with blocking your own shades make either adepts stop there shade blocking function while shading. Or make them not block there own friendly shades. But either way this would make pvp less opps 2 adepts got in. Gg
I'll come out and say it.
I dont think lurkers are worth it as a main army unit. I think zerg can get much better value out of a more mid tier army that can be remade faster. Roach/hydra/infestor with zerglings ofc.
Treat lurkers like Terran treat tanks when they push up. Push with your main bio army and kite back into the tanks when they chase.
Lurkers are basically tanks that hit everything in a line, have no minimum range, are invisible, siege/unsiege extremely fast, have more HP, can be mass produced, and share upgrades with other units.
So, yes, zerg should use them as an "anchor" for their combat force.
Can't tell if Dark didn't show up this time or if Hero's strat countered him just the right way
Dark just got forced into inferior unit comps and ran the fuck over. Hero's a snowball player, you either beat him early or catch him in a mistake (like his infamous habit of not blocking off his goddamn natural, or F2'ing his Warp Prisms to their death)
@@TheNerdForAllSeasons Hero has 3 weaknesses: not closing the door, early game and his poor prism or spotter position.
Man, I'd love to see a mode where these players actually have their card abilities. Or perhaps a tournament where players can unlock different cards/card abilities by winning matches ect.
That final game was a welcome palate cleanser.

Wow that is only the second time I have seen protoss overcome the mass lurker. The only other time I have seen it is w/ mass immortals which is pretty rare in itself since they are vulnerable to swarm units and take forever to build up. TBH I think Hero got lucky there, that blink must have scattered the lurker targeting so it was spread out all over the place instead of focused on the primary unit mass. Although gotta hand it to him for that observer and prism/templar micro. He had everything positioned at the right place at the exact right time to keep them protected so the rest of the army could work.
terrible lurker positioning was the reason why lurkers where destroyed. Instead of on the ramp where protoss was forced into a concave, he burrowed behind it, where the protoss could spread his army.... Dark is a positioning n00b.
When zerg strong is when they have many type unit like roach, lurker and then viper combine zergling. Usually I drop 5 Dark templar sneaky destoy spawning pool. Cause zergling spawn fast. The hatchery is too much HP. I use adapt sacrifite at least 15unit cause it cheap to block all the way back of zerg or like Hero blink to zerg at early first match fight. Then use storm to zerg unit or even my unit but at least I cover them so they wont get away. In late game zerg kinda anoy about spawning unit fast and many at same time, so destroy hatchery is useless.

Interesting to see hero look so strong here. Would love to see some analysis on why it went to bad for dark. Ie is this dark losing or hero winning. I noticed that hero goes straight for attack upgrades only and then shields oddly enough. Hero out here making protoss look broken.
PvZ really tends to be a steamroll one way or the other. Shield upgrades aren't unheard of if you're using archons, but herO is on another level
@@chloesmith4065 My hypothesis is that early-mid game adepts are the key for hero to survive the most complicated situations (that is, the absurd masses of zerglins)
Dark just plays the game wrong and refuses to play properly. That’s he never reaches the heights of several. He refuses to fix his mistakes and play correctly that’s why he loses so much. That shows how good he is. Playing poorly and still being one of the top Zergs.
@@ashtonsmith9682I agree with this. It’s also why Serral is the best - he plays Zerg EXACTLY how it was designed to be played and has mastered the races fundamental mechanics. Throw in his game sense and decision making and other Zergs just can’t stack up. Dark relies on a lot of mind games and taking huge risks, but against an opponent who’s on their A game like Hero was here, he fumbles a bit.

I would put HerO and Dark under A+ Tier for their respective races. -S for Maru and S for Serral(no pun intended), because the latter seem to often beat the former. Not +S(highest) for Serral, because he struggles the most against Reynor unlike other top players which means he still has room to improve.
It is very sad to see how hard zerg got hit in the newest balance patch, they simply don't stand a chance in ZvP. Only serral might scrape out a few wins here and there.

Yeah, but has been out of style for years.
The game is very old, no wholly new strategies are going to be found. There is a lot of nuances in SC2 however and those nuances create new strategies like the one seen in this video. Is it a brand new radical strategy that no one has ever seen? No. But it is still new relative to what one can expect
