DO YOU THINK THE 10K MILE RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE IS SUFFICIENT? Or should it be changed every 5k?
@counterfeitcowboy1362 In my opinion, no. I change the oil every 3,000 miles and my 97 Tacoma has 340,000 miles. With a Turbo I would I think it should be changed every 3,000 miles.
Absolutely not. That might work in a lab under ideal conditions but in the real world, especially if you drive in dusty environments I wouldnt go past 5,000 miles.
I wouldnt be surprised if 10,000 mile intervals are only sufficient to get you through the warranty period. You want a 300,000 mile engine you change at 5,000 or less.
That’s a good thought. It seemed fairly dark when I changed it. I can’t imagine going to 10k miles
Yeah I spend a lot of time on dirt roads. After seeing the 5k oil I pulled out of it I may do 5k oil changes
Not with a turbo. I've changed the oil every 4k miles on my ecoboost and it's served me well.
Hey...even using full synthetic, I wouldn't go past 5,000 miles. On my vehicles I recommend doing a break-in oil change at under a 1,000 miles when new....
Yeah. Oil is cheap. Seems like a cheap way to get some more life out of your motor.
After I hit 150k I brought it down to 4k
@@counterfeitcowboy1362 Used to be cheap anyway. I used to spend 79 cents a quart for oil when i was in high school. It's now 25 bucks for 5 quarts of mobil 1. Cheaper than an engine rebuild, but with a 10 dollar wix filter, it adds up.
Oil companies spend millions developing their base oil & additive packages. They test engines to destruction. They improve the oils, then destroy them again.
When an oil company says their oil is good for 10k or 20k miles, they have the data to back it up. Usually, they have dozens of engines with 500k-1M miles to back up those 20k mile claims.
Like the content, Time to change my oil. Thanks, helpful
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it!
Should have done the first oil change at 800-1,000 miles then every 5,000 miles there after.
3K miles for me, 13 RDX, 21 4Runner, 07 Escalade.
Just picked up a 24 offroad. Thanks for the video. Have Lazfit floor liners coming. Switchbacks would be a nice addition.
I hope that you did a break-in oil change around 1k miles too. That drain plug looks odd as it's not at the bottom of the pan. It will leave old oil in it on every oil change and any debris in the bottom of the pan won't drain out. Very odd indeed. Also always pre-fill your oil filter as it helps build oil pressure faster.
Very professional job on the oil change. Nothing makes a Toyota happier than an oil change and a trip to Chevron.
I see the new SR 2 door base models are starting to arrive.
Thank you! That’s cool! I haven’t seen one yet. We do seem to be about a month and a half behind all the other dealers. So we’ll see if we get any soon!
This might be a dumb question but, what does a trip to Chevron do? Higher quality gas?
@@lennygarrison6836 Yes. My Toyota runs much better on Chevron gas. It loves the 91 octane.
I start feeling uneasy after 3000 and am usually changed by 4000 miles even with full synthetic. Do I overspend on oil? Probably but I feel better and it’s my money.
Exactly! Oil is cheaper than motors
Great job, man! You're getting it. Great video
Thank you!
Picked up a TRD sport, really sweet ride!
If you keep your cars a long time, you should do a break in oil change at 500 miles or 1,000 miles. Then you can change oil every 4 or 5K. I have heard of debris being left in Toyota engines because there were early failures I know of. Especially the non Japanese engines. My 2tr-fe engine was made in Japan then assembled into the rare 4 cylinder Tacoma I bought in 2022. But I still changed the oil at 1,000 miles in case of debris.
Favorite mod on the new Tacos are the lasfits lights or better wheel and tire setups
I think 0w20 oil would break down quick I’m doing 4K oil changes on my 23 frontier 0w20 royal purple
Royal purple is snake oil, we have a titan the we exclusively ran Royal purple in. It developed a tick around 50k miles. Took it to nissan, told them about the oil and they laughed. They came back from parts with mobil 1. Said its the only oil recommended for the GTR. After that debacle we've done mobil 1 ever since. Now at 275,000 miles still no tick
@@dylanconn6079 ok maybe I might try out that motul oil I hear that stuff is pretty good
How do you like your frontier, been thinking about one for the price of the Tacoma
@@jaspercats so far love it decent gas mileage better then 1999 ford ranger frontier has good power an it's still got great features for a s king cab 4x4 I paid 33k for mine seats feel great
I’d love to do a PPF wrap on my Tacoma. Great video, very much appreciated
Yeah I didn’t do that on mine and I should have! Kinda too late now. I have lots of rock chips😂
Turbo is not for 5k is too long recommend 4K
Toyota oil is dark, switched to Amsoil on my Rav4,its so clear its not easy to see on the dipstick!
How much the dealer charge for the kit?
I got employee cost so I think it was like $25. I don’t know what retail is
I heard on your video when you started your truck 2 chirping noise because I have same chirping noise on my truck
Planning to take to dealership when I get the 5k service!
Yeah mine has done that since it had about 2k miles on it. I haven’t been that worried about it so I haven’t done anything about it
Is coming from ac clutch compressor already tested with out the ac on and doesn’t do the chirping as soon I activate the ac it does !
Dude, have you not heard of funnels? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
Heard of them. I like to live my life on the edge😂
I’d love the switchbacks for my 24 Tacoma. Haven’t done anything with lights yet so this would be a great first mod.
Most of my cars have 10k mile oil changes. Whether I use, Dino or Synthetic, they go 10k miles. You want to change oil at 3k, or 5k? You do you.
Hey when you check your oil, are you supposed to check it hot or cold?
The manual says let the truck warm up for about 5 minutes. Which I realized after I filmed the checking the oil part.
I would to see how to install the new FOG LIGHTS instead of the unfunctional vertical fog
Hey there! Been following your channel since you bought the truck. I’d love to win a pair because I am scheduled to pick up my truck in October and wanted to switch them out for Lasfit Switchbacks asap. Appreciate the content and can’t wait to get my taco.
Very cool! Thank you for the support! Which model are you getting?
@@counterfeitcowboy1362 OR Hybrid premium in Supersonic Red. I really wanted a long bed hybrid, but Toyota said no unless you get TH. Oh well… thanks again for all the content. Your videos helped me make my choice.
@@kampferpower that’s awesome!I wish I would have gotten the hybrid sometimes. That is a wicked powertrain. I’m excited for you! Glad I could help.
So, did they give you the oil change kit free since you didn't have them change the oil or did you have to pay for it?
They would have if I would have thought about it. I had just had my tire rotation service done and apparently you have to wait a certain period of time before you can come back and do your next service. (Like a month). So I just went ahead and bought the oil change kit. I’m going to have it done again at 10k so I’m not worried about it.
That’s a normal breakin. I do mine at 1k miles. The little specs are fine the piece at the end was probably silicone
I want to add a light bar to my ‘24 Tacoma!
You look cramped under there. Get some ramps. I just changed the oil on my 2024 Sport last week. Drove it half way up my ramps and had plenty of room to maneuver. So much easier.
Why halfway? Doesn’t that push the ramps out front ? Don’t feel like having my face a permanent part of the undercarriage.
@@MoreXP4Me because that is the perfect height for me. The ramps stay planted. BTW.........if ramps move when going up, put it in 4WD and they won't move.
Had the transmission fail yet, they are on all of the even issues with manual transmissions
Transmissions aren’t failing it was specific early production Tacomas but they released a TSB
Have you heard of such a thing as funnel?
Heard of them. I like to live life on the edge😂
I'll give Toyota credit for not using cartridge filter.
u need a better mic sound only coming out of right headset speaker.
Favorite mod on my 2024 Tacoma would be the switchbacks or a light bar !
With turbos, i wouldn’t pass 6k.
Bought a 2017 Ford F-150 and have heard that with an Ecoboost engine, it's best to change oil at 5k miles, even with synthetic. Why spend extra for 10k or 20k oil when changing every 5k miles? I wouldn't go past 5,000 miles even with good quality, name-brand oil. Thank you.
Have you scraped your lower link mounts yet?
No? What do you mean
@@counterfeitcowboy1362like under the truck, lol I have one too and I’m debating on ordering the lower link skids. Figured I’d ask if you have scraped yours out on the trail yet lol
@@tagurit9123 oh gotcha. No I haven’t yet. I thought for sure I would scrape something on the toquerville falls trail that I made a video of. But I didn’t hit anything
@@counterfeitcowboy1362ok sweet I’m gonna go check that video out and yeah I’ve been worried so I haven’t hit anything yet hahaha
lol yeah go watch that. It looks pretty mild on camera but the rocks are pretty big. Some skids on that low point wouldn’t be a bad idea tho!
I
Do mine every 3-4k
Nice job!
Thank you!
Dude buy a filter wrench !!
Toyota dipsticks are hard to read, especially with that low viscosity oil.
Yeah that was a weird experience. I figure it’s probably fine😂😂
Yeah its near impossible to read it on my 24 tacoma. I lightly sanded the dipstick to scuff it, which makes it so much easier to read the oil level. Also, the owner's manual states to warm up the truck and let it sit for 5 mins on a level surface before checking oil level.
I go 4k...no more.
Don’t listen to Toyota, just do the oil change every 5k miles
Gotta replace that car skid plate! That’s next to worthless.
Yeah you’re not wrong. I need to get one of those pro skid plates!
It’s a lot harder than you think man. It’s a composite plastic just like the bed is made of. I bet it takes a beating pretty well if you’re just doing simple off roading. Now if you’re gonna do any serious rock crawling, you’d also need to replace more than just the skid plates. I’m keeping mine for the ease of removing them for maintenance plus the savings on weight and money lol. Those steel boys are heavy! I’m betting the plastic skids are nearly as tough as the aluminum ones too, and way less expensive to replace.
That’s totally normal , that puppy it’s on the break in period cuzz, you’re all good, you want some real entertainment buy a tundra!!!!
Winner winner chicken dinner
My comment would be where are your safety glasses? Might be nice to start.
funnel??? haha
Like I said, we’re doing it the redneck way. 😂
The new Toyotas are crap.
Can I ask after you drove one what didn't you like ?
@@glennanderson2790 The motors are imploding. Not a good look for Toyota's reliability heritage.
@@saltymethods2637 I’ve heard of transmission issues but not any motor issues.
@@glennanderson2790 Really??? Dig a little deeper in TH-cam. You'll find that a lot of the 2022 and newer Tundras and Tacomas are suffering from main bearing failures. It's pretty bad. Bad enough that Toyota is going to be replacing ALL the motors that are affected.
@@saltymethods2637 The motor issues are with the Tundra. If you have info on Tacoma engines failing please provide some links.
