I completely buy the Dumbledore & Hagrid theories; how the Headmaster repaired Hagrid's wand, then hid it in an umbrella; how he taught Hagrid nonverbal magic.
My head canon was always after Chamber of Secrets Hagrid was fully exonerated by the ministry from 50 years ago, and allowed to openly practice magic. It would also make sense as to why they didn't resist Dumbledore hiring him as a teacher. He becomes more brazen and casual with handling his "umbrella" afterwards throughout both books and films, but still never talked about it being his old wand so as not to get Dumbledore in trouble for fixing it.
I think that all makes perfect sense. I do however, think that Hagrid's wand wasn't hidden in the umbrella, but transfigured into one. It's a minor detail, but it's always bugged me that the students learned Vera Verto in their first year and never really had a use for Transfiguration in general. I get that it's an analogy for "everything is not as it seems", which only bolsters the point that the pink umbrella IS Hagrid wand, just like the goblet IS ALSO the rat
Just a week away from the two year anniversary of Robbie Coltrane passing away. I thought he REALLY nailed the role of Hagrid, couldn’t imagine anyone else
Robbie Coltrane died just 5 days after my father on my birthday. So every October I remember them both. He was perfect as Hagrid and as my kids and I read the books and watch the films we all agreed he was one of the best things about Harry Potter. It's a bittersweet time but if there is one thing I know it's that not all tears are sad.
I would like to add my own to this. Hagrid used magic uncontrollably as an adult like Harry did as a kid. We all know wizards can cast wandless magic especially when their emotions are high. Giants are known for their rage. So when hagrid would get mad or upset he would automatically buff his strength or defense. If I'm not mistaken he takes like 5 or more stunning spells in book 5 but they just bounce off. In book 4 we see 5 stunning spells knock out a Hungarian horntail. I think he's beyond tough to knock out I think he's nigh impossible. He was held by Voldemort inner circle for who knows how long and you know they tortured him yet when Harry finds him he seems moderately inconvenienced
I’m 100% on board with the dumbledore repaired hagrids wand, hid it in the umbrella and then taught hagrid. I think most of us believe this to be true.
she would have visited ‘the leaky cauldron’ when free of duties, for like minded companionship… remember some wizards recognised Harry while just passing him in the city , before he was introduced to the Wizarding world , which would have been difficult unless there were photos… one young lad in jeans and a hoody, looks like another, unless you know one of them very well..
She's a Likely candidate as well, she maintained contact with Harry as tge neighborhoods crazy cat lady who sometimes babysat Harry, neither Harry nor the Dursleys were aware that she was a squib, it would also explain why people knew about his glasses (I guess tgat could also be attributed to similarity to his father) Either Hagrid not being able to keep secrets and revealing the detail of what he saw that day or Mrs. Figg revealing what she saw every day, maybe when she was selling her magic cats
@@ZekeSB Figg or Hagrid seem the most likely, Hagrid saw Harry that day and isn't good at keeping secrets. Figg sees Harry all the time, she'd know even more like the glasses and how he gets treated, maybe Figg was placed there to keep Dumbledore informed, in Harry's Neighbouhood she's the crazy cat lady but to wizards and witches she's a squib magic cat breeder (I think somewhere it's mentioned that her cat's are a hybrid between cats and a cat-like magic creature) so I guess she informs the witches and wizards when she goes to sell the cats
A large, hairy man, protective of his boss because he took a chance on, and trusted him. Keeper of keys, and maintainer of property. Seen as scary, and dangerous by most, but is really a teddy bear. Lover of animals, with an affinity for them. Damn, I grew up to be Rubus Hagrid. Im 37, an didnt realize that. Quite an accomplishment I'd say 😂 Really proud of that now I think on it!
I couldn't agree more with everything you said. I think dumbledore did repair hagrid's and hid it in his umbrella. It is the only way he could do magic so successfully.
Since we definitely know that Dumbledore had the elder wand and the elder wand is the only object that can repeal broken wand such as when Harry Potter repaired his own one after the defeat of Voldemort using the elder wand.
Hagrid was expelled in 1943* and Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in 1945* so he could have mended the wand then, unless he waited until he was headmaster, then the onus was on him , and not on Professor Dippit.. and that was somewhere around 1965 + .. and it’s something Dumbledore would do , to try and balance a miscarriage of justice, and he had complete confidence in Hagrid .. and Hagrid worked in the dark forest with its collection of fluffy, beautiful wonderful animals … where a wand may be useful.. an armed Hagrid would be formidable .
fun stuff, So the primary issue with Ron's wand was that is wasn't Ron's wand, not that it was broken. even if Hagrid's mother were on the smaller side I cannot fathom the logistics of makin babies between a 6 foot tall man and a 17 foot tall female, hmm, unless there is a spell or potion that can make one taller.
Did anyone else think the scene of Harry and Hagrid on the subway or train was a little reckless? When Harry is reading out loud his list of things he has to have there is a muggle woman sitting right next to them so why did hagrid allow him to read that out loud and Harry then mentions a dragon the Hagrid says he love to have a dragon, then says they are misunderstood. The lady looked over then Hagrid nodded so she was hearing what they were saying. Reckless of him to do that!
Any normal adult would think a kid was talking about their fantasies and using their imagination, like kids do. Almost none would go to ‘these things must be real”
There were numerous people over the years before he attended Hogwarts who greeted Harry while he was out and about. It doesn't seem strange that any of those people would've noticed that he had a big ol' scar on his melon, right?
I was born with Adult Dwarfism, that hits me differently. Thank Lisa The Rainbow Giraffe, leaf be upon her, for the scientific gift of Protropin, artificial human growth hormone. Otherwise, I can't see how his giant mother would have been wooed in the first place, if the two of them weren't at least similar in size.
Here are my thoughts when I am one minute in: Hagrid was taught nearly exclusively by Dumbledore (plus the other professor of magical beasts), and a couple of other tutors. Dumbledore fixed his wand and hid it in his umbrella. This is obvious in the very first book when Harry asked, "How did you get here?" Hagrid kept it simple and said, "I flew!" He apporated/disapporated. He started a fire even without his umbrella in the shack on the rock (according to the book, just like Arthur Weasley did when he fetched Harry for the Quidditch Championship.) There are many more examples, but Hagrid was a fully trained wizard, not unlike many others who didn't attend formal schooling. (In the U.S. there is this thing that is called homeschooled where parents are responsible for the education of the children and they do earn a high school degree.)

Ok. But Valdemort was not pure blood. His father was muggle, wouldn't that make him half-blood?
Ms. Figg also knew. Shes a squib, but she might have magical family.
