      I’m a EMD dispatcher as well and still in the 6 month training and my trainers are rude, unwilling to help and talk about the trainees behind our back. I told the Captain and was advised to not let them bother me and to prove them wrong...job is already stressing to deal with - now the toxic coworkers on top of that have to be ignored when you need their help??

    Oh girl, her issues were probably jealous of your skills! You are a wonderful and beautiful woman of God. Sadly, their are teachers and trainers in every field that should NOT be training or managing people! I am actually looking to go back into dispatching. Idk how you do it in Texas, but Ohio we have certain counties where the dispatcher only dispatched fire/EMS or LEO and as a former EMT, that’s what I want to do. But, I would love to talk to you more bc my dream job is Tarrant County, Texas. I know Texas has some different licensing or certification requirements than the Midwest.

    I think you should've reported it might have saved another young dispatcher's career.. She's a trainer she has the future of a lot of people in her hands, and she has to learn how to be an adult and separate the personal from professional. Do I think she would've got fired? Probably not(if all she said was she didn't like you). But I think starting the investigation would've showed her that she's not exempt from scrutiny.

    I was officer training when injury closed that door. I was offered dispatch and jumped at it 1980. We had quarterly reviews as probation was one year. If you transfer to another office you have to be evaluated by supervisors at the home office and then when you transfer you have to start over and be reviewed by new supervisor. This means you have several evaluations per year. I transfered from an office of 45 dispatchers and 3 supervisors to an office with 9 dispatchers and one lousy supervisor. Long story short, one of my co workers announced to me incest was a father's right and tried to kiss me. The next day I told my supervisor and said I would never work alone with him again! She said hes just really friendly. She took it to the Captain who said I was a trouble maker get rid of me. They made my life a living hell so I quit. This idiot was later arrested and charged with over 30 counts of child molesting. My Lt and supervisor testified as character witnesses on his behalf! He was convicted because they proved incest with resulting children. After prison he did it another two times and is now listed as violent sexual preditor! I had outstanding evaluations until this idiot ruined my career, but my life turned out wonderful!

If you don’t want to be a trainer communicate that with your supervisor. My co workers were just as bad treating the new hires like red headed step children, as if being disrespectful is some kind of initiation test to see who can last. Hi Laura, Thank you so much for this video request! It’s so unfortunate that you went through such a negative experience. You can only be successful with the tools, or in this case, with the training you are given. It’s awful to have a miscommunication with another individual especially one that is placed in a position to teach. It’s obvious that this trainer had some personal issues with you and was trying to sabotage your evaluation. Based on what you’ve told us she was absolutely not the right person to be in the capacity to train you or anyone else for that matter. How awful that the response from your training department was just as ineffective as your trainer especially after you told them of the grievance. Their “could care less attitude” was setting you up to fail. It’s a shame because they lost a good person who was passionate about helping others and they failed to see that. They are indeed very lucky that you did not pursue things further up especially after learning that this trainer had already divulged her contempt against you to another colleague. I get the impression that she may have been envious of your abilities to excel. Ive heard of many instances where supervisors feel threatened by those who are intelligent and passionate about their jobs, fear that they will be surpassed and overlooked, that they are compelled to do anything within their authority to stop that from happening. You did the right thing in standing up for yourself. I am happy to hear that you finally found a job that you are truly passionate about. I believe in divine intervention and sometimes these things happen for a reason. “God won’t give you more than you can handle” and where you are at right now is where you need to be. You sound like a strong, compassionate, intelligent person and any employer would be fortunate to have you! Stay strong always! 🙏

    I just came across your video and I'm not interested in being a 911 dispatcher, however I do know about working in a toxic work environment. Your trainer sounds like a bitter overworked witch. Just what you described in your video , I can tell that she didn't like her job and was unprofessional writing letters about you to other coworkers 🙄. I was a Quality Control Auditor and this particular inspector had personal issues with me and made my job even more stressful. It was a job while I was going to college and I just kept maintaining my composer with her petty drama and trying to intimidate me. I had to constantly keep telling myself I'm almost finished with school and this job is part of my journey, not my destination. Our peace of mind is more valuable at times and I'm glad I got out of that toxic place and I hope you're doing well today 😇🙌🤞

    So when i was working for a major city in Texas I had the same issue i was bounced between 6 different people and they all had different teaching styles so half my training was just sitting in dispatch listening, I don't think i received the proper training that i should've received. One trainer was so awful i'd cry in my car on the way home. Did i stay there no, would i do the job again yes.

    Wow!! I'm completely flabbergasted!! I went through the EXACT same situation!!!? The only difference is, my first training officer, little Ms popular"the schoolyard bully" didn't like me off the bat. Was rude, acted like she didn't want to train me, all that childish crap. I request a different trainer, and low and behold, they assigned me one, but, little Ms bully already had it settled with my new trainer". See, before this, this new trainer was sweet to me, always willing to help me, ect. As soon as this happened with Ms bully, her demeanor changed and she was treating me the same way and reporting the exact same lies in my daily report as ma bully did. Again, I brought it to the attention of the director, and again, I get another trainer".. great friend of the first two snakes. She treated me the same way. I actually walk into the break room and find the 3 laughing about me and what they were doing to me. It's a bunch of bullshit and being new, you'll never stand a chance. I loved my job and desired so much to be the best dispatcher I could be, but I was sabotogged. They actually allowed it. They all work together no matter what. So unfair and wrong. Anyhow, I ended up getting failed for "not responding to training" as all the three witches reported on my progress reports. I was hurt, I cried, and felt cheated. Well to hell with these snakes now because I hear they were all fired for using the NCIC system illegally. Lol they were in on it together too.. karma is a little B++*h...ain't it??

    I have been there and it sucks when your career/job is in the hands of someone who has personal and inner issues. Sad part is that when you speak up for your self they kinda don't listen to you because they see all trainers as part of the department so they all stick for each other. 😞 but the way I see it is that they missed out on a great human who was willing to help other people. You doing these videos helped out so many people and as humans on this earth, we need your kind.🙂 i hope Everything works out for a you and theres a reason why things happen and God may have better opportunities for you right around the corner.😉😇 but also remember that carma is a crazy thing and they way she treated you someone above her some day will probably treat her the same way. Nothing is guaranteed and if you don't help others God will judge your actions as well. Keep doing your videos!😊😊 I have a test coming up and pray to God I can pass it.🤞🤞😇

    I have heard of this behavior before, and it tends to happen to positive and hardworking employees. After hearing it repeatedly, I noticed some similar situations. Typically there is an upcoming promotion and supervisors or supervisor has decided they are giving the promotion to one of their favorites, but they know it will look bad so they start playing those mind games or gaslighting the employees that are truly deserving but can not justify not offering them the promotion. This Trainer knew exactly what she was doing. She either wanted you to quit or intimidate you enough not to challenge her. She had the opportunity to address this issue with you and the Training Department. She did not say anything because she had nothing to backup her claim. Unfortunately, these scenarios can also be racially motivated, when employers want to promote an unqualified employee over you. Very sad, sorry you had to experience this awful situation.

When it came to drug testing, I remember feeling so uneasy because I had to dilute in a short period of time and I feared the panel would catch it. Did you end up passing? I realize that your comment is a year old, but, I, too am curious to know because I feel like urine testing is more advanced and sensitive compared to what they used to be like. I really don't know if that is true...it is just my opinion.
      and, this sounds horrible, but Polygraphs are easier to get away with because that test is basically looking for any signs of anxiety. They depend on people's responses to mock crimes, which probably don't reflect real-world emotions. When accused of an actual crime, many people understandably become anxious, even if they're innocent.

    Ok this is REALLY freaky! Lol first off.. our passions are exactly the same--serving ppl and non profit work. I was a fire dispatcher here in FL and our story is basically EXACTLY the same!!!! I had an issue with a trainer who didnt like me and talked about me before she knew anything about me. She was a much senior dispatcher and many were intimidated by her. She had a strong personality but I never really cared because she seemed nice to me.. until, like you, i found out otherwise and then she was given to me as a trainer. She did not want to help me, she was mean and would take over my calls, yell at supervisors, battalions, etc and once she put her hands on me (this was her second offense as she did this with a trainee in the class right before mine) I went to training and they told me to suck it up because I would be black balled.. they told me not to say anything and to stay with her UNTIL I told them about her putting her hands on me which I did NOT want to tell them about because she didnt violently hit me, but it was not welcomed nor appreciated. After that, she ate some humble pie because there were now two trainees saying the same thing and she could no longer lie on the other girl and say she was making it up. I got a new trainer after that and unfortunately my DORs were the same.. not responding to training which wasnt true but I realize that dispatch culture is the same no matter where you go (I have other dispatcher friends in other agencies that share similar stories) and its veryyyy unfortunate that senior dispatchers often have the ability to decide who they want to "sit with them" .. if they dont like how you look, talk, or cuz their "friend" doesn't like you they can put whatever they want on the DOR. It was incredibly stressful and infuriating. I cried a LOT. I became anxious and depressed. I tried until I couldnt and practically begged them to let me go. Other than that I loved the job itself but the ppl, often catty women, made the job full of drama and I HATE that. I stay in my own lane and typically get along with any/every one. But even wtbs, I'm still giving it another shot!

    • @LauraBryant
      @LauraBryant  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes I love what I did as a 911 dispatcher but I did not enjoy the culture completely. with every job you have a group of friends or a group of people who you talk to the most and those of the people that make going to work a little easier.I’ve since gotten a lot better with dealing with stressed individuals so it’s nothing! Let me tell you something, there was this call center job (not criminal justice related at all) & my team lead was like always watching me I mean literally watching me all day everyday like weird. I have a strong personality but most don't see me upset but I will stand up for myself & others. I already knew what was up but I wanted her to outright say it & she did. Girl thought I was after her job. I told her straight up that I wasn't & if I was, I would have her job already & walked off. You should have seen her face hit the floor. I read my credentials to girl & girl got even more nervous. She'll be aight. She was the type to dirty things to get where she was & it bothered the hell outta her to see that someone did the same thing the right way. I can understand why you left & I don't blame you. You have to grab your own bits of peace & standing your ground...especially where they don't have your back as an employee, time to bounce. You can only play you agains all of them for so long & it's draining & stressful like a bad marriage or relationship period.

      Trust, I know how you feel many times over. That's called "God don't like ugly" & "you reap what you sow." Sad thing is that she probably still hasn't learned a damn thing. Smh. That's the thing with some employers, they forget you're an employee & you're not obligated to work for them. The United States in general is full of hiring employers. Ijs. I have a devil in my life too & they too will reap what they sow except my devil is in my personal life. It gets to me sometimes (annoys) but I try to keep smiling & do what's best for me & my kids' future. People see you progressing & hate you for it. People see that you speak well or is highly educated & they have something negative to say. People see you were fortunate in something they were flat out told no on they hate you for it or even that they have to be an adult & deal with problems they created but you catch hell for it. I'm hanging on to God because I know he has me & my kids' back & he has yours too.
