Hi Laura, I love your channel and the 911 story times especially the funny ones! The sad ones not so much but in this type of profession you have to deal with the good, the bad, and the ugly. I like the fact that you keep it real and don’t sugarcoat anything which is necessary for those contemplating a career as a 911 dispatcher. If it’s not too intrusive could you make a video on why you are no longer a 911 dispatcher and would you go back into that profession again? Also I noticed that there are city job postings for 911 dispatchers and 911 dispatcher trainees and wondered if you would provide some information about the difference? I have a criticall test for one agency (as their first step) on Thursday and I have filled out my huge packet for another agency and am waiting to hear back. I’m so worried because I have bad credit from my past. I’m praying for favor in for both agencies. Your videos have been so so helpful! Thank you so much for posting. Went through hiring process- testing/background and got a conditional job offer! Now I go to my psychological exam this Thursday 5/29/19. I’m going to Vlog it as best as I can. You’re right there’s not much info on it. Thanks you your videos, i hope to shine some light as well. I have to drive 4 hours away to get to the exam but I’m excited I’m almost there! Woot woot!

@beautifulsstart It went good! Just like she said in the video. For the psyche evaluation I had a paper that was 320 questions long and I just answered the questions either "Strongly Agree" "Agree" "disagree" ect. And the physical was just having my blood pressure taken, they drew some blood, checked my heart, the hearing test was just ad she described in the video and I also had an x-ray of my chest and had to breathe in something to test how strong my lungs where. Oh and I did my drug test. I got the job and started April 11th and I love it so far!

Okay, so I’ve passed my critical testing last week, and I’ve done my interview on Monday morning with 3 agency employees. As they walked me to the door, the lady stated I done very well and they’d be calling me this week!!

Thank you so much for posting this. Idk what I would have done without your guidance. I just filled out, notarized & turned in my 51 plus page background sheets. This one asked about your finances & things. I've been laid off a few times from other types of employment even now & unemployment only lasts so long & is only so it's hard but I don't want to be judged by something that caused me financial hardship like I'm just out here making dumbass choices ya know because that's not what happened. They asked for all of my jobs from when I was 16. I'm damn near 40 now so that was interesting. 😳 I was wondering about this portion of the process while I'm waiting to see if I'm approved for the next stage. (Pray for me)
FIRST I will pray for you!!! I forgot one job and they called and asked me about it! So it wasn’t a problem at all! They do check your credit but that’s not a major issue... TRUST ME!!! OK!!!! Just be still and know if it is to be then it will be!!! Praying for your journey!!!
Laura Bryant Thank you so much for your prayers. I definitely need them. This is would be a huge blessing for me & my kids & someone in my family I want to help. This could resolve many things or be a big help towards it. I really want this & need this opportunity. I want to advance in Criminal Justice even further but I want to start here. It could give me a lot of opportunities to learn & prepare myself for later & gain a lot of experience in a career; not a regular job I hate going to but this is rewarding & a career. The things you hear will prepare me for pursuing law enforcement or crime scene investigation or wherever I decide. Even police dispatch would even be a goal for me but my stats stat at 911 dispatch & reaching that first. I feel like I've gained a lifelong friend & I value that. I wouldn't even have gotten passed the Critical test & to where I am now without your guidance. I don't like surprising & this hiring process is full of them so I thank God that he put you in my path so I can not only gain a friend but also the knowledge I need. 💜 Hey, are you on Twitter? I've taken one psych test & now that I think about it it was so (whooosa) & mean that was a long time ago, just dealing with ppl's electric services so why?! It's painfully laughable now but still. They asked a lot of the same questions but switched it up like they were trying to make sure that's how you really felt. My late father was a police officer & I recall him being asked about a injured bird on a sidewalk & what you would do & pretending you would pick the bird up wasn't really the answer they wanted...& apparently neither was leave the damn bird alone. I will smooth call animal control for ya though. Lol Imm trying not to overthink & be nervous but I am hella nervous & anxious a bit but not as much if I didn't have your vids to watch.

Girl I know it takes a while!! It did take that long with the other agency I recently applied to work for. It takes a while for sure. It is nerve wrecking!!

2yrs later.. I’m just now going through this process. I have my exam & psychological testing scheduled for 8/10/21. Going from working as a mail carrier to being a dispatcher. Your video has come in handy for me to know what to expect. Thank you for this😊

Just got word that I passed my Criticall test with a 93% and will be scheduled for an interview!! Hope to God a juvenile record won’t hold me back, but we’ll see how it goes.
I HAVE SOME TIPS FOR YOU!!!! I had a tiny little blip on my juvenile record. I was never officially charged and did a diversion program because I was pretty young--it was a "wrong place wrong time" kinda thing. As long as you're open and honest about it, you'll be fine. They spent no time at all on my background and my adult life is clean as a whistle. I just got a job offer today!! Good luck to you!!! And your interview will go great! It's likely a panel interview where people who work in dispatch will interview you. I was only asked about 6 questions and spent time talking with the interviewers (via zoom call) and they don't ask questions about your background. TIPS: be prepared to answer the question "Why do you want to be a 911 dispatcher?" If you pass your panel interview, that means they feel it's worth it to use the time and resources to conduct your formal background interview. So, be ready to prepare your credit report, fill out the huge background questionnaire, have your birth certificate, any court documents from your juvenile arrest (and any marriages/divorces) and be prepared to order ALL your transcripts (from high school and every college attended). And your lie detector--that meeting lasted about 3 and half hours for me but it was much easier than I thought! You've got this! Since I literally just got finished going through this, let me know if you have any questions!

I've heard it really just depends on the needs of the agency. I'm taking my psych evaluation on Tuesday, and my recruiter told me they want this done as fast as possible. They have been very quick and efficient from the start. If it took you a loooooong time to get here because of the agency working slow, it might take a while.

The psych questions were so weird and random. When meeting with the psychologist she said the computer tabulated my results and it appeared that I was answering in a way that I thought they wanted me to answer or like I said what they wanted to hear and she wanted to know why or if I had lied. I was thinking “lady these questions are crazy and I’m not a weirdo I have no idea why it comes off that way. I swear I told the truth!!” So now I’m waiting to hear from my agency if I passed 🤞🏼🤞🏼

so i watched a different video about psychological tests and what the person in the video said was that they try to make u uncomfortable and accuse u of lying so they can see how u react to stressful situations. it’s probable that they did that to you so they could see how you’d react. did u end up passing? what happened afterwards?
My question is slightly personal...but i'm sure i'll help someone by asking it. I had mental health treatment in the military. I have complete confidence that I'll be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of a 911 dispatcher (I promise it wasn't anything crazy or lifelong I was treated for). My calling is the same, to serve my community and help others. I'm just nervous about this part? If i'm honest, how do I go about divulging? Do you know anyone prior military who has gone through this process?
Hey (: i've read the shifts are like 12 hours long (from a google search) is that true? And if so how are the breaks usually? And how many days of the week can one expect to get off? Are the shifts random every day or do they stay the same for a few months?
Heyyy!! Every agency is different! We worked 5 days on for 8 hours and 2 days off. Some agencies do work 12's. We did 12's if we opted or where mandated overtime! They stay the same though!

My biggest challenge with dispatching is knowing what questions to ask the caller. There are so many unique situations and I feel like every call should be treated different. I feel so awful after I hang up a call and send my officers and they ask me questions I should know the answer to bc I should have asked the caller...I guess it comes with experience. But I get so excited on the phone I forget to ask questions and dissect the call. Any advice or possibly a video to even help with routine calls?
One thing I learned right away is to determine a few things... Location... is there a delay or is it in progress...if its in progress are there any weapons or is anyone intox.... where is the subject now....Is anyone injured... Do you all have SOP's for each problem nature? That is one thing I always looked at so that.I didn't miss anything CYA... Cover Your Agency!!

When you got your job offer, how long did it take to start? (In other words, how far out was your start date)
I know I should be wearing glasses but I havent. What If I fail that part and need them? Will I still be ok if I they say i need them? Will I still get hired?
I failed my second portion today. I passed the typing portion but I failed the behavioral portion which were asking pretty much common sense questions. I’m just not sure where I went wrong.
Are they able to work around your work schedule when they schedule you for the interview and tests?

(I think I did ok). Then there will be a Lieutenant interview and on to the background check andolygraph. It varies!! One agency it too 2 months and the other took 6!
The process takes forever lol. I just went through orientation that was about the job. Next is a site tour. Still haven't done anything yet really other than take the test. I want to know what the academy training is like. I really want to pass.

Every agency is different. One agency it was within days or a week but with others it took over a month sometimes. If you are concerned shoot them an email!

Hi I have a question. I’ve had a panic disorder since I was a kid I’ve been working through it a lot and trying my hardest to help that part of me. I’ve been through dissociation bc of weed and it took a blow on me in the last year. I want to really be in criminal justice and do this but I’m scared I’m too “damaged” for this. I really want this job tho.
I would inquire about doing a sit in where you have the opportunity to listen to calls with someone. That will help you a lot
This may be a silly question but do they check both eyes or is it just how well you can see period? I'm legally blind in one eye, but I can see 2020 in the other eye. Your videos have been so helpful!! I'm at the psych test part and I'm hopeful!!

When you got your start date? Did you have a previous job? Do you think they give you enough time to give a 2 week notice?
Yes, I never quit a job without having another lined up!! Adult life 101!! Once I got my start date I gave my notice with the dates giving me 2 weeks to my employer!

I passed the Criticall test and the oral interview but I failed my psych test which I don’t know how, I know I’m not crazy, now I can’t re apply until a year from now 😔

Will I be disqualified.. long story short I spent a few hours in the emergency department for suicidal ideation but I never meant it and was never admitted nor was I give any medicine for it will this hold me back?

I think that it will not hold you back UNLESS those feelings are still in your heart. You have to deal with the things inside you before doing this job. Especially if you have triggers… it will not end up well.

I took my pysch today and I struggled with the math part bad😩 he said I struggle with problem solving and that’s what the job entitles. Now just have to wait for the sheriff to make the final decision. But do you think my chances are slim? Because of what I struggled in on the test?

Football squat I call it for a minute, hang down for a minute, and afew other things. But I got the job and I start tomorrow.. lol I love your videos and they kinda help me what to expect. Thank you

It’s not BS. There most certainly is a psych exam in almost any state you apply for a position as such in. It’s actually kind of worrying that there isn’t one in FL, lol --But honestly not surprised.

Why do they require a person to take a psychological test and physical fitness test to answer 911 calls?🤔
