Welcome to the world of 3D printing! I'd definitely look into next getting some ABS-Like resin. Especially the clear kind, since it looks amazing when cured and clear-coated properly. Will take longer to print, but it is very much worth the stronger final product. The High-Speed resign is fantastic, but relatively fragile. Can't wait to see what else you end up printing.
@@skybirdmakes For sure. For Bionicle masks specifically, the connecting axle being too fragile has been a small problem for me in the past when repeatedly removing masks. I'd also like to suggest the slicer Chitubox. Lychee is great, but i feel Chitubox is much better and less frustrating regarding Supports.
I yearn for a future where people can just 3D print missing Bionicle pieces that are at least half as good as official pieces. With technology evolving it could be a possibility in the future.
I'm eagerly awaiting more of these prints. The mask and helmet you made so far look so good. Seriously, they are surprisingly good prints for a first attempt.
I don’t care about speed but what does impress me is how clean the print is. Always had cold feet over 3d printing because plain and simple I think the layers are kinda hideous. Now I don’t have money and I don’t have room in the house at all for one of these but if I were IN a good position to get a printer I’d probably take a looksee
The next step would be to play around with a more flexible resin that could allow for the imitation of the full skakdi spine and even new masks that could fit the inika head, unless that would require a whole new separate machine in which case disregard this comment.
I still have yet to open my ELEGOO Mars 3 Pro 4K (gotta love printer names), but I've been wondering how well Bionicle/Hero Factory pieces would print. Got a few ideas in mind, and this video shows that, yeah, it works pretty damn well. Been messing with Blender for 3-4 years now, and I've gotta say, having something you modeled yourself become a real physical object is just the best. (Had my brother print something for me a while back) Super excited to see what kind of stuff you come up with moving forwards.
Those look amazing! I’d love to get into resin printing but I don’t currently have a well ventilated place I could do it in safely. I do have a PLA printer though and I’ve had a lot of fun printing Bionicle masks with it and when I sand and paint them they look almost perfect but there’s unfortunately still some small amount of detail that’s lost when sanding them so it’s a trade off. Someday though I’d love to get a resin printer and make some masks with much higher detail
@@skybirdmakes I've downloaded many things from Thingiverse. That mask is not there. Like I said, I've been looking for it for years. I checked through that maker's Thingiverse and Shapeways. Neither of them have that mask
Those look awesome, thank you for the printer recommandation! Now that you have a resin printer, would you say that making masks through resin casting is obselete, or there are still upsides to it? Love to see your progress in mask making, keep it up!
does anyone know how to make sure that axle and pin connections and connectors actually fit right? Every time I print something it's either the axle is too big or too small and same for the axle and pin holes. it seems that it's always a gamble
I'm not sure yet, but so far the two I have print pretty well, it's usually better to print tight and use an x-acto knife or something to fine tune the piece Plus you can get like 200 blades for around $10 on amazon
I scaled them to 40% I *think* though these ones may have been scaled proper already. Unless you mean compared to official masks in which case I would say the Baterra is perfect glatorian scale while the Olmak/Vizon mask is huge but in a way that feels appropriate. It captures the scale of both source masks very well!
3D printing is the true future of Bionicle.
Change my mind.

I've heard it's fragile, though for my purposes, that's no issue. Thanks I'll keep an eye on it!!

I was blown away

Welcome back! Glad you're feeling better! So excited to see that Baterra helmet get put to use.
yay now you can finally 3D Print those XcrimsonP's Minionicle Masks on Thingiverse
I also have my own minifig scale masks 😃

Tried it with anycubic flex resin. Works like a dream.
Thats vezon fused to an olmak?
Edit: yes and so epik
It is, it was modeled by Galva_Nize who you can find on Instagram, they have various models on Thingiverse free to download!
drink the resin like a smoothie trust me its worth it
Uhhhhhhhh no I don't think I will
@skybirdmakes your missing out man!
The Baterra aren't ice characters. They are shapeshifting robots.
Even better 😃

I have only had one print from my resin printer have a temp problem

so do you know how long this thing will last until it starts decomposing?
I've read it can take years for it to start degrading with full UV exposure
Each brand is different of course
there are flexible resins you could use for the piraka face.
So I've heard and I can't wait to try some!
I've wanted a Vezon head like that for years. If anybody has a link to the STL file, I'd greatly appreciate it
I can try finding it on my PC later, but it's also available for free on Thingiverse, designed by Galva_Nize
Actually it might be available on shapeways for download if you sign up for free there

I plan to do both, casting imo yields the best end result, but resin printing is great from prototyping. They're great companions
Where did you get the vezon olmak head? I can't seem to find place to get the 3d model file
I will have to find the link when I'm feeling a bit better, I *think* it is on Thingiverse from the Chronicler's Vault but I'm not positive

@@skybirdmakes yeah I would like to have the scale like the official masks👍
Which printer did you used mate ?
