      The cop, ultimately was wrong, but to be fair, at the time of the driving encounter, the cop did not know there was an emergency with a patient onboard. It was his ego that started the situation to spiral out of control. He was "offended" that the ambulance did not yield, although I don't understand why he didn't just drive around. There was no oncoming traffic. However, once he heard the driver saying that he had a patient onboard, on the way to the hospital, he should have immediately served as an escort. This was about him.

    Firefighter/EMT here. I don't know about Oklahoma, but in Florida the laws regarding emergency vehicles, lights and sirens, etc., the laws generally give law enforcement ultimate authority. For instance, emergency vehicles may stop or stand anywhere regardless of traffic regulations UNLESS otherwise directed by a law enforcement officer. Virtually all the codes include a phrase that makes an LEO the ultimate arbiter in these situations.
    HOWEVER, there is one big exception.
    NOBODY can interfere with emergency medical personnel who are rendering care to a patient. NOBODY. Not LEO, not the fire chief, not the governor. Treatment of the patient comes above everything else.

      @SkunkApe407 หลายเดือนก่อน +79

      Yeah, I'd like to see them tell me to move. I'm a Professional Surveyor and Mapper in the State of Florida. Under State Law, not even a LEO has the authority to tell me to move, if I'm in the process of performing a survey. Only the Federal Government has the authority to revoke or deny my access to a jobsite or any adjoining properties, including any intersecting or abutting right-of-ways. I've personally taken the badges of six officers who overstepped their authority, and I'm itching to get number seven.

      So basically everything you said is pointless because they are rendering care to a patient but the LEO took things too far due to an ego. That's how it is for us here in Oklahoma, if patient care is being rendered we have 110% control over that scene. Law enforcement for the most part is pretty lenient for us here with apparatus placement in regards to safety. Although I will say the Highway Patrol puts a very strong emphasis on getting the highway back open but usually allow us to do what we need to do in a timely manner.

      Its actually coincidental. Situational irony here would be if he got the ambulance driver he'd tried to ticket as his driver and the officer died en route due to delays because of the drivers refusal to go through intersections without yielding. The opposite of what you would expect from an ambulance. But colloquially AKA the way everyone uses irony, yea youre right lol.
      Technically though, if the patient in the ambulance passed away due to the delay, THAT is peak irony considering one would expect the fastest/safest route to the hospital to be the ambulance. The officer passing away from the same thing the patient he inconvenienced was going through is coincidental or karmic.

Told her to contact that cop and tell him i was not stopping and would not put my patient at risk. Why do people think all cops are corrupt? Because not a single trooper tried to deescalate things, and reason with the trooper. No, they circle the wagons around obvious bad behavior. Then he gets all of five days off. He should have been fired. The troopers with him needed suspended. The county needed sued.

      Agree 100%. My late sil & her husband were both paramedics. My sil suffered numerous bouts of breast cancer that returned multiple times. The chemo treatments eventually caused breathing problems among other issues & the cancer itself ravaged her body. My bil eventually earned his PA, which allowed him to better care for his wife. Many doctors, including my own, along with many others have said that he took such good care of his wife. He really did. Between the two of them, they saw a lot of cases like this throughout the many decades of their service.

      No doubt, right? I wonder, too, what was going thru his head when he was at his critical moment. If nothing else, how would you feel, "officer," if the medics who were supposed to be helping you, took their sweet time when you were lying there helpless and struggling, or didn't put you first as a patient in need, while the medics argued loudly for 10 mins over procedures or whose turn it was to drive?
      This entire incident is truly outrageous, and who doesn't see the fact that trooper Martin, himself, died of a heart attack, as a bit of kharmic irony. It does in a way, explain the explosive temper, which can and does happen to people with exceedingly high blood pressure issues.
      I could see your point and wondered the same thing when I saw your comment. How could a person, even someone without much of a conscience, not have the thought of their recent interaction they handled so poorly regarding someone else's urgent medical needs, and how likely would it be for the thought of karma to enter a person's mind while facing the same fate? It's kind of a natural response to wonder about, especially when anyone not directly involved can empathize with whoever was wrongly affected in this unnecessary situation and it's being so unjustly handled.
      Trooper Martin, is every citizen's worst nightmare, for obvious reasons, which are only made worse by the insulting fact he was minimally disciplined for what mostly anyone would see as something he should have been fired for. The incident was bad enough, let alone the hypocrisy of his lightweight reprimand while being such a petty and totally egotistical A-hole, and having so little control over himself to become such a stickler about principles he made worse, by his exaggeration of them. Cops that are that unstable need more than a paid week off as a consequence. If any other person had behaved that way, they would surely be given the "full penalty of the law". The hypocrisy and his lack of common decency is just totally messed up.

      Police in the UK take years of the academy before they are on the force.
      The police in the U.S. take 6 months of the academy before they are on the force. That isn't enough time to learn all the laws, to see if you're psychological prepared for the job, and to learn every protocol there is.
      Two same incidents happen at these two nations and was handled differently. A guy in the U.K. was wielding a machete and swinging it around. One cop held his attention while his partner snuck around and rolled a big trash can at him. Knocking him down and disarming him.
      A homeless man was wielding a knife in NY and had 5 cops with guns trained on him. They all shot him for "fear of their lives".
