Don’t worry, none of these videos make me want one. This thing is a slow pig. I would buy a Chevy truck any day before a hummer. And they look way cooler.
I don't understand why you keep playing up the "worlds most hated truck" on this channel. To be en vogue? If people like them or not, who cares? Drive what you like and if other people don't like it, ... them.
I love the good natured ribbing that Nathan gives Andre. Moose and squirrel. Lol Oh and keep up with the Toyota stuff! Can’t have too much of the best.
Cliffhanger will be a proper test. A bull guard or bar, is an upside down U-shaped tube that protects the radiator and engine. What you have there is a brush guard.
Thank you so much nathan! Finally someone to show the features of the 4runner. I have same truck and glad you showed it's off road features. Kdss was also on yours. 275/70/17 ko2 made a huge difference!
I had a 2000 Chevy 2500 (not an HD) that used the same tie rods as the H2 I was running 37in tires, 4.88 gears, and a supercharger and took it off road and never once had a problem with the tie rods.
"off road" is kind of a relative term. If you had 37's on a GM front IFS - you weren't "off road" in the sense that most of us think about it. You were on a gravel road. I broke an axle shaft and front differential in my 2001 HD2500 with STOCK size tires. No way you'd run 37's anywhere but the highways without major carnage. Here's a good example on an H3 of how weak they are. th-cam.com/video/1g6PKArJB0U/w-d-xo.html The H2 was notoriously bad about breaking them and it's a huge PITA to get those vehicles back off the trail once you do. You can even break them with a hard launch on asphalt because of the geometry of the IFS on those models.
MrJcjet true of any IFS. I have never broken anything on my H3, but it’s a later model with the stronger front diff and front locker. Having wheeled with many types of vehicles and seeing what caused the break, it’s always too much skinny pedal.
MrJcjet went mudding a good bit in that truck, jumped it, and pulled a lot of stuck vehicles out with it and never had a problem. A lot more abuse than just gravel roads which it spent a lot of time on as well. Maybe I just got lucky, but the superlift lift kit helps a lot too since it drops and supports the center link giving a closer to parallel angle to the tie rods. Instead of lift knuckles like most kits
Mine was totally bone stock except tires. They were stock size Michelin street tires. In snow. On top of a paved road. Got mildly stuck. Boom - snapped outer axle. It twisted off at the splines on the outer CV. Wimpy little joint. Poor metallurgy. On the plus side it also ended getting the front differential replaced. The truck had 15,000 miles on it and when they did the warranty replacement - the front diff was bone dry. It had never been filled up with gear lube - ever. The factory forgot. Bearings were all toast. And that was basically a microcosm of the last GM product that will ever drip oil on my driveway. Worst vehicle I've ever owned. The list is long of the failures before 100k miles and includes complete failures and replacement of the transfer case at 40k miles, transmission (allison 1000) at 80k miles, a/c compressor, engine electronics like the crank position sensor that's inside the fawking bell housing???, transmission electronics - no tow haul mode since about 50k miles, can't keep it working, and a lot more. Long story short, it couldn't handle a snowy road with stock tires. It was comfortable - loaded with every option black on black with heated leather - etc. But waiting for a tow truck twice a year in an expensive truck- not so much fun. In comparison the newer Toyota IFS systems are far stronger. Not only stronger than the old Toyota ones that were notoriously weak, but also a lot stronger than full size GM trucks too. The CVs in a 10+ 4runner are good for about 8000 ft/lbs. The early Toyota IFS ones were only good to about 3,500. A Dana 60 35 spline shaft is about the same strength as the newer Toyota IFS CVs. That sounds kinda crazy - but it's true. They're huge and very strong. It's something newer 4runners and land cruisers basically can just forget about.
Haha, great video! Love the Bullwinkle reference. I actually kind of like the Hummer, in an absurd sort of way. I also like the 4R, but would love to see an SR5 tested once in a while. I'm thinking of getting one and am concerned about the capability vs. the Trail or OR models.
Great entertainment guy's, Thanks very much. I ( for one ) can take a lot more of this, in this format too. P.S. If that was a 'closed highway' for the drag test, then what was that car doing heading in the opposite direction ? I guess he thought it was 'closed' too!!
In fleet testing, over 30 years the paper element filtered better compared to 3 other fiber/oiled elements and one dry fiber element, documented by teardowns after 250K miles or so on several cars each year over a 10 year period including used oil analysis on many other vehicles as well. They very carefully tracked particle counts and other factors. These tests were paid for by a 3rd party and done by an independent organization. The testing also included oil related observations and measurements concerning the then-new Xw-20 engine oil and oil change intervals on 5w-30 oil. The results were never made public because they were considered proprietary. The short answer might well be if in doubt stick with stock on late model vehicles.
Do some research on that Donaldson filter. Look at the service interval and dirt capacity of that filter. They have some good videos of how good that filter works Reason for used them was to prevent "dusting" of the turbos on the powerstroke. Look up dusted turbos caused by cheap aftermarket filters. Funny thing they sell those Donaldson filters to the Baja racers because they filter so well. Also if that filter was no good, how come it had a better 0-60 than the k&n. Makes you thinks.
Wish you would of locked the diff from the start in the H2 like he did with the 4 Runner. If the Diff was locked it would not have taken 2 attempts. The H2 is ridiculously wide but it has an impressive turning radius and steering for its size.
You are wrong. Every year for the past ten years 4runner sales have been rising. For 2018 4runner sales were just shy of 140,000. In fact, the 4runner out sold the Chevy Tahoe by 35,000 units in 2018 which is much more modern by today's standards. Just goes to she people like old fashioned.
depends on how much you want to spend. The cheap option is the sleeves, then its on to the full replacement tie rods of Fab-tech, Cognito ect I like the Rare Parts tie rods.
brandon wright nope. Wrong. they do control full design of the truck, therefore control of filter type, therefore the control of the cost of the air filter
Kristopher Klassen the market sets the price for the filter. The manufacturer can charge $100. That doesn’t mean an aftermarket manufacturer cant offer one to oem spec for $50.
So the brand new hardly any mileage 4,400 to 4,800 hundred pound 4 Runner with more gears struggled to get away from a 15 year old 6,600 pound 4 speed tank with over 100k miles.I think I am seeing why some people refuse to buy new cars.
never buy another 4runner. I have a 2007 Limited v8 that is great and can tow 7,200, the puny 2018 V6 (only option) can only tow less than 5,000. 2007 torque is 306 lb-ft. vs. 276. - no thanks. Toyota made a big mistake going to the V6.
The V8 was actually around 350ft/lbs for the 4th gen and if you need a V8 Suv the sequoia is available. But I definitely agree with you that for a 2018 model it’s nuts that the v6 is nearly identical to the 4th gens v6 power output
Stay AWAY from REUSABLE air filters if your objective it's engine life longevity , they let pass the very "fine silk like" dust that's basically your engine ingesting valve lapping compound on powder form. I had plenty of the fancy reusable filters on several CAI systems and saw the adverse side effects with my own eyes.
The Hummer H2 is a great looking king size SUV. After Ford Excursion, my favorite SUV is Hummer H2. By the way, Ford Excursion 4x4 is the best vehicle for me.
You'd never regret it. Especially if you run it for many years. Toyotas last for decades and cost so little over time. You'll find that it's the best automotive purchase that you've ever made. 4Runners are built!
Once you buy into one, which can cost you, you'll get nice returns on your investment. Every year holds their value...... Case in point, big Toyota dealerships around my area take 3rd and 4th Gen 4runners on trade and rather than selling clean 200k+ mile examples at auction, they will sell them on their lot. Reason being is that they know it will sell at 200+ thousand miles!!!!
Bruce Solomon I didn't buy a 4 runner I bought a Tacoma which is pretty much the same and man I was a Chevy guy till I decided to try something else after I broke down in front of a Toyota dealership walked in took a test drive in a 1998 Tacoma with 21,000 miles on it and drove away that very day now that same truck has 510,000 miles and it only needed Shocks an Alternator and 3 Starters and a stereo system but that didn't need to be replaced I just wanted to because I like my tunes.
Nice series. Makes me want to trade my 97 expedition for an H2, despite the two of those being almost the same size, probably having about the same capability off road and the former having a better fuel economy even when running mt tires, also being much more versatile as an SUV. Also, can anybody tell me why Americans are so swooned over a car or a truck like this still running its original tires? It is at least around 11-15 years old. Having original tires of that age, regardless of the mileage is a reason to ask at lewast a grand off, and not a good thing in any way, shape or form.
The crawl control is not really made for going up hill. It cannot do anything that a good driver can't. It is much more effective at going down hills! It can brake individual wheels, something that is impossible for the driver. It is most impressive on down hill icy roads/trails. It can keep the truck in control and keep the speed down much better than I could ever do.
confused as to when you actually needed to put the vehicle in 4 low for the road conditions. a real good comparison would be the h1 vs the h2. give me that and i would definately donate to tfl.
The last generation of the h2 had a better engine in it I bought mine instead of a suburban and it was a good all around vehicle. I stopped buying the fourrunner when they discontinued the 4.7 it was a little low on power to tow very much but a good daily driver
They can swap H2 engine to Cummins 6.7 (385 hp 900 lbft) like RAM HD used for better fuel economy. For transmission, they can change to Allison automatic transmission.
I wonder why Toyota put the old 4.0 V6 in the 4Runner, but have the new 3.5 V6 in the Tacoma, and a 5 speed auto come on it should be at least 6 if not 8 speeds in 2018, but I know from previous videos you have stated that Toyota is rather slow on changing their trucks/truck based vehicles?! Great comp video guys as always. :)
Forrest Earnest the 4.0L is a better truck engine, trust me I test drove both. The 3.5L has no torque down low in the rpm range. That and the gear hunting of the 6 speed Tacoma were the 2 worst features IMO
Yes I know that there is no replacement for displacement and I have heard Nathan say it many times when testing the new Taco TRD Pro etc... that he wasn't a fan of the smaller motor either. One more gear shouldn't be a negative, but it is in the Toyotas apparently. I work at a Chevy dealership and when I sold vehicles we would get some Tacomas in and a couple 4Runners, but pretty much all manuals like the one we have now in a TRD Sport and I haven't enough experience driving those to give a proper test drive outside of around the lot to know the difference. Thanks for you input.
I don't like Asian & European SUVs. I love American SUVs: Ford Excursion, Hummer H2, Cadillac Escalade ESV, GMC Yukon XL, Chevrolet Suburban, Lincoln Navigator L & Ford Expedition MAX.
Durango is awesome. But, i especially love the largest SUVs, like Escalade ESV for example. Once again, Durango is great. with 6.4-liter engine Durango is one of the most powerful and fastest SUV in the world. Third generation Durango looks very cool.
Theclueguy 338 my friend had a major problem with his 5.7 he got a strange really loud whistle after he put a Turbo on it lololololol his 5.7 is pushing 650hp and is pretty much stock
according to google the 4 Runner weighs 4,400 to 4,800 pounds depending on its configuration. so it weighs what every other similar SUV weighs and no where near the number they came up with. Likely a simple error, but hard to believe they didnt think that seemed a little heavy.
Thats not a proper hummer. Need 40 in rims that make it useless and undrivable. Dont for get to spend more money on your rims and sound system so you never have more than a quarter tank.
Thanks for watching! You can also check out Episode 1 of this new TFL series here: th-cam.com/video/kx1GuDXpOM8/w-d-xo.html
The Fast Lane Truck great video guys.! Surprisingly the Hummer is better looking than something! That 4 runner is fugly to me!
Time to Ike frank, blow out his cobwebs.
Love these off road videos. That’s what make TFL the best car show on TH-cam. Period.
LSanti I've done harder shit with my l200 in 2wd i mean I like the channel and all but they have to step up their off-road game
Tsaki Tx Why don’t you post it for us to see so we can believe it.
LSanti seriusly you think this is real offloading?
Tsaki Tx Yes it is off reading. I'm not saying it is hardcore off-roading but it is off-roading. And entertaining to watch at.
LSanti perhaps you haven’t seen Expedition Overland, or Dirt Every Day
Ooooh, 24 minute long video? Yes please.
Creating all these videos with the H2 all kinds of people are going to be wanting to go out and buy one now prices will never go down
That's my worry. I've always wanted an H2, hoping these don't drive the prices up.
Still love the videos though.
Don’t worry, none of these videos make me want one. This thing is a slow pig. I would buy a Chevy truck any day before a hummer. And they look way cooler.
About time the H2 got some respect, it's a very cool and capable vehicle.
I don't understand why you keep playing up the "worlds most hated truck" on this channel. To be en vogue? If people like them or not, who cares? Drive what you like and if other people don't like it, ... them.
Wish you would have called the hummer Arnold instead of Frank. :(
Bob Xziang 😂

Drew w they’ll only be an issue if rock crawling really. Plenty of upgrades for it out there so it’s not even a problem I think

That was fun video. And those tie rods on the H2 look scary. Way undersized for such a heavy, large vehicle. Shame on GM for doing that.
H2 vs Powerwagon vs 1st gen Raptor in Moab. Go ahead and throw in the tundra TRD Pro for fun!
Brandon Kaufman the TRD? Sure I guess, there is always a need for a bitch truck to fetch the beer.
That would be a badass video lol
A stock 4Runner can complete Hells Revenge in Moab so it should be no surprise that it's able to tackle Gold Mine Hill.
Well done Gentlemen. I enjoyed the variety in this video. have a great day
Andre is already assuming ownership ;-)
Lol
Haha!
Frank the tank.
Nicholas R so true
Loving the H2 videos guys. Keep 'em coming!
Toyota Sequoia Vs. Hummer
Loving the longer videos ! Keep up the great content
Hold up. Noticed a ME sticker on the tool box at 1:13 Whats the connection to Maine???
Will you guys have more videos with the 4Runner?
The video quality is fantastic !! 👍🏾👍🏾
"I'm really hoping for some damage" and moments later "Come on, floor it!" lol
Haha, great video! Love the Bullwinkle reference. I actually kind of like the Hummer, in an absurd sort of way. I also like the 4R, but would love to see an SR5 tested once in a while. I'm thinking of getting one and am concerned about the capability vs. the Trail or OR models.
Michael Smith atrac will get you 80 percent of where the locker will get you. I play around between atrac and my locker and atrac performs great.
Brad Anderson great, thanks for the info!
Go with the trail premium.
Glad to see you put both of the most hated against each other.
Hey TFL, what video editor do y'all use?
Great entertainment guy's, Thanks very much.
I ( for one ) can take a lot more of this, in this format too.
P.S. If that was a 'closed highway' for the drag test, then what was that car doing heading in the opposite direction ? I guess he thought it was 'closed' too!!
I’m loving these videos!! 🤟🏽
“Worried about running over small animals, like moose or squirrel”
Hahahahahahahha
Well done episode. Nathan is a metalhead 🤘. Motorhead Rocks.
Karlos Montoya Meth head* lol 😂 jk If Nathan was a meth head, he'd weigh about a 120lbs
Troy Strain speaking of meth, you got any?
😂JK
Karlos Montoya Tommy is the skinny one with the Aztek , better ask him. Lol #tflconspiracytheoriesandfandomstories
Great installment guys! Good Show!
Any word on a 4Runner refresh/remodel?
Fantastic video, thanks guys
The 4Runner weighs 4,500 pounds, not 5,500 pounds. Where do you guys get your specs from?
How much snow is on Cliff hanger that doesn't allow you guys to go up ?
Waiting on the chevy tahoe z71 video on the golden hill lol
that stupid front lip air dam will ruin everything
Check out the Tahoe rst that truck is a beast
Great work guys!
This should be old vs old because the 4Runner is old too!
Am I the only one that wants to see the 4runner trd pro vs the zr2?
In the Jeep Wrangler video roman said we don’t name cars. What about big green, rusty boy, lucky, frank the h2 and much more
Love the shirt Roman! 👍🏻
Good test. I enjoyed the video.
Take frank up the Ike gauntlet
Sudah! Sudah! Awesome Hunt For The Best Movie Ever Red October reference
Do some research on that Donaldson filter. Look at the service interval and dirt capacity of that filter. They have some good videos of how good that filter works
Reason for used them was to prevent "dusting" of the turbos on the powerstroke. Look up dusted turbos caused by cheap aftermarket filters. Funny thing they sell those Donaldson filters to the Baja racers because they filter so well. Also if that filter was no good, how come it had a better 0-60 than the k&n. Makes you thinks.
Why is the spare tire rim different then the rest? Ask Paul for the other 3 rims as well! haha
A 0-60 with no filter would be good to see.
Wish you would of locked the diff from the start in the H2 like he did with the 4 Runner. If the Diff was locked it would not have taken 2 attempts.
The H2 is ridiculously wide but it has an impressive turning radius and steering for its size.
I'm with you i grew up seeing hummers and excursions at the glamis dunes
Toyota desperately needs to update the Tacoma and the 4Runner.
Why? They are still selling TONs of both. They are all over the place.
They are selling fewer of them than they were selling 20 years ago. Yeah, that's a roaring success.
I'm starting to love that old H2, as well. How much $$ to beef up that tie rod?
Principal Skinr cheap, there is a sleeve kit that fits rite over factory units
depends on how much you want to spend. The cheap option is the sleeves, then its on to the full replacement tie rods of Fab-tech, Cognito ect I like the Rare Parts tie rods.
This vid has gotten alot of views, you guys need to do much more H2 stuff. Not enough youtube vids on them.
More videos on the H2 please!
Lol can't let my wife see this video h2 is her favorite vehicle
Great video
I guess GM figures if you are stupid enough to buy a Hummer you'll be stupid enough to pay over $80 for a filter.
Calander 2008 those filters are in a plethora of GM trucks.
Ford diesels from the late 2000’s are worse.
Calander 2008 first gm doesn't control filter cost secondly hummer all day
brandon wright nope. Wrong. they do control full design of the truck, therefore control of filter type, therefore the control of the cost of the air filter
Kristopher Klassen the market sets the price for the filter. The manufacturer can charge $100. That doesn’t mean an aftermarket manufacturer cant offer one to oem spec for $50.
"You're", not "your", you are the "stupid"! Lol
6.0l has 316hp...my 2014 chevy silverado eco tec 5.3l has 355hp. Wow, how far motors have come.
So the brand new hardly any mileage 4,400 to 4,800 hundred pound 4 Runner with more gears struggled to get away from a 15 year old 6,600 pound 4 speed tank with over 100k miles.I think I am seeing why some people refuse to buy new cars.
Yeah! More frank h2 action!! Yes they are unpopular and ugly but a solid power train and off road capability is definitely redeeming! Love GM!
5 minute job on a 5oz bull bar. That thing looks like it's made out of the cheapest, smallest diameter metal known to man.
Should put them against the best off road truck, because #powerwagondontcare
Kristopher Klassen Yeah they should.
Kristopher Klassen The Power Wagon is in the shop, its native setting. 😜🙃😂
Troy Strain yup. Even the best needs an oil change once in a while. You know because #benchmark
Troy Strain no one is talking about your mom/dad, dude.
Kristopher Klassen They're all dead and gone so good.
I love the 4Runner vids
me too

jaysplace01 260hp and 306 ft lbs
The Sequoia is nice, but is not a 4runner with the off road capability and the price is virtually double.
Graph Guy first gen are very capable, 2nd Gen not at all.
huh thats so wierd i have a 2005 v6 and it's 245hp with 280 ft/lbs I guess both engines got weaker for 07-09?
Stay AWAY from REUSABLE air filters if your objective it's engine life longevity , they let pass the very "fine silk like" dust that's basically your engine ingesting valve lapping compound on powder form.
I had plenty of the fancy reusable filters on several CAI systems and saw the adverse side effects with my own eyes.
Ok what the heck was that flashing on the screen when they installed the oiled filter?
The Hummer H2 is a great looking king size SUV. After Ford Excursion, my favorite SUV is Hummer H2. By the way, Ford Excursion 4x4 is the best vehicle for me.
Largest SUVs Black agreed 👍👍👍hummer all day and though I'm not a ford guy love the excursion
I especially love - 2005 Ford Excursion Limited 4x4 in black color.
I really want to get a 4Runner 😫

$80 for a Hummer paper filter is totally cool, the Hummer is all about outrageousness, so the cost of ownership shop;d always be just as outrageous.

The last generation of the h2 had a better engine in it I bought mine instead of a suburban and it was a good all around vehicle. I stopped buying the fourrunner when they discontinued the 4.7 it was a little low on power to tow very much but a good daily driver
The gauge cluster was a major problem in a lot of the gym trucks of that year
Doesn't anyone think that if they kept making the H2 10 years later it would have better engine and 4x4 system??
Now try it again with the 6.2 H2 lol
4runner looks like a work of art compared to that Hummer
They can swap H2 engine to Cummins 6.7 (385 hp 900 lbft) like RAM HD used for better fuel economy. For transmission, they can change to Allison automatic transmission.
In 10 years I'll buy a 4runner lmao
Unless you leave in the northeast US. Then you'd have trouble finding one that hasn't rotted in to the ground.
Ashes 2 Ashes no worries I don't live north east
plz always making video about H2
It needs to up Cliffhanger 2.0. Luv the H2
The old 4.0 is a much better engine IMO.
Blake Nichols exactly!
Forrest Earnest the old technology is bullet proof!!! They don't want to make a bad 4runner
Manual mode would smoke the hummer I own the limited 2016 model. The v6 still keeps up with the v8 and I can can 6000lb comfortably.
You do not gain ground clearance by taking off side steps as ground clearance is measured from the lowest place usually the rear diff.
True, but it totally helps the breakover angle.
Really tfl? A snorkel and a wrap make an overland vehicle? How about look some Australian offroad videos
I don't like Asian & European SUVs. I love American SUVs: Ford Excursion, Hummer H2, Cadillac Escalade ESV, GMC Yukon XL, Chevrolet Suburban, Lincoln Navigator L & Ford Expedition MAX.
Largest SUVs Black Jeep, Durango you know, the best king of American SUV’s
Durango is awesome. But, i especially love the largest SUVs, like Escalade ESV for example. Once again, Durango is great. with 6.4-liter engine Durango is one of the most powerful and fastest SUV in the world. Third generation Durango looks very cool.
Largest SUVs Black I love American truck to but to me you can’t be Japanese reliability. I have never had a major problem with any of my Toyota trucks
Theclueguy 338 my friend had a major problem with his 5.7 he got a strange really loud whistle after he put a Turbo on it lololololol his 5.7 is pushing 650hp and is pretty much stock
TimmyTeaBag cool smart ass!
? - Did Paul even spit on it before he stuck it in Roman?
There is no way the 4runner weighs 5500lbs
according to google the 4 Runner weighs 4,400 to 4,800 pounds depending on its configuration. so it weighs what every other similar SUV weighs and no where near the number they came up with. Likely a simple error, but hard to believe they didnt think that seemed a little heavy.
Agreed. Txs for the clarification.
These are the same rims that came on the 15 Fj...
Thats not a proper hummer. Need 40 in rims that make it useless and undrivable. Dont for get to spend more money on your rims and sound system so you never have more than a quarter tank.
John Wyskochil and of course there need to be blasing Hip Hop Music out of your Windows as soon as you start the engine

Is the Toyota the same year as the Hummer?
norm laderoute...No.
Brandon Murphy Do you know what year the Toyota is?
norm laderoute Either 2017 or 2018. And I think the hummer is 2003
Brandon Murphy Thanks
Love my 03 4Runner V8 limited
NICE
One more common thing between the two -- they are hogs. They are fuel inefficient. And the engines are poor performers. Shame for the 2018 Toyota.
You guys put to much oil on the filter. To much oil on a motorcycle filter will slow it down too.
