    Hi, Donna! The 'wet-chop' method is where you fill your Vitamix container with 1 cup of the ingredient you'd like to chop (in this case, cabbage). Then add just enough water to the container to lift the ingredients above the blades. To chop, pulse once or twice, or flip the 'start/stop' switch once or twice. Finally, pour the contents of your container through a strainer. Repeat the process if you have more ingredients to chop.

    Hi, Laureen. Yes, please use a dish soap of your choice and water. The NCHFP (National Center for Home Food Preservation) recommends that you boil your jars (glass jars are recommended, like the one Kimberly uses in the video) for 10 minutes at altitudes of less than 1,000 ft. At higher elevations, boil 1 additional minute for each additional 1,000 ft. elevation to sterilize properly. Thank you for your question!

    Thank you for the video, so how would you go about sterilizing the tools and tamper? What is the best thing to use to sanitize everything?

  • @VitamixCorporation
    @VitamixCorporation  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, J! Boil the jars and sanitize (use common dish and kitchen utensil cleaning agents) everything that will come in contact with the cabbage.

    I was taught not to tighten the jar lid in order for the oxygen to be released during the process of fermentation.

    I did not see the vitamixvideo comment before I had lunch. I opened one of the jars, removed the rolled cabbage leaves and top inch of cabbage mix. I did not see any mold on the cabbage leaves or the mix. I ate about a half of a cup and tasted the ginger and miso paste. I don't know what the mix is supposed to smell like. I haven't had any ill effects, so I hope it is okay.

  • @VitamixCorporation
    @VitamixCorporation  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, Lydia. Per the description you provided of the mold and off-smell, we would not recommend consuming the salad in any of those jars.

      You take 1/2 to 1 cup with dinner at least 5 nights a week. Refrigerate after opening. it will keep fresh for a couple of weeks. As per her Beauty Detox Book.

    Are you saying to wash the jars with soap and water and then boil them? For how long do they need to be boiled for?

    Kim acknowledges this option in her blog. But she says that making this yourself gives you the option of controlling the sodium, which is true.

    There are certain bacteria that thrive in places where oxygen is available, hence the term aerobic, whereas there are also bacteria that thrive through fermentation rather than cellular respiration. There are some probiotics that do not need oxygen to live, which the probiotics which are found in yogurt. Those probiotics will not do anything to your skin if applied as yogurt because they cannot survive in the presence of oxygen; they are the anaerobes. However, there are certain bacteria, these are the probiotics in Probiotic Action, that do need oxygen to survive, and those are the ones you want to put on your skin. Not all probiotics are the same and it’s important to know the difference.

    I bought a jar that has a special lid & pump that removes air. I bought it to keep my green drinks fresh throughout the day. Would using that jar for this salad be wise? I suppose the question would be the same for those with vacuum sealers.

  • @scrapper2happy

    I followed the recipe and made three jars five days ago.The second day, our kitchen smelled really bad from the fermenting jars.My husband tightened them more. We put them on their side in a large tuperware container to contain the smell.At five days, I opened the container outside.One or more of the jars leaked.One jar's top is bubbled up. How do I know if they are safe to eat? I put the jars in the refrigerator. I do see some mold on some of the rolled cabbage leaves.Can anyone advise?

    Hello, I wanted to make this recipe, and would like to know if the lid for the jar is a 2 piece. That separates. After filling with cabbage mixture, do you put back in boiling water to seal lid, like they do in canning videos. I've never done this and am afraid of getting botulism. Please help with this anyone who knows. Thanks

    • @VitamixCorporation
      @VitamixCorporation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! The jar used is a standard Mason jar with lid. Do not place the jar into boiling water after filling with the cabbage mixture. Instead, the recipe states to put the jar in a dark cabinet.

    Hello what are your measurements for everything? I so need a probiotic recipe. Looks great. I just received my vitamix. Do you lock the craft into the base? thanks

    • @VitamixCorporation
      @VitamixCorporation  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tammy, Kimberly Snyder will walk through some of the ingredient measurements in the video. Fill your Vitamix container up halfway with filtered water. The Vitamix container does not lock onto the base as it needs a little flexibility to shift slightly with all the power that comes from the motor. Enjoy the recipe!

    you don't use all the water mixture and do you have to open the lid everyday? I saw a recipe where you release it everyday.

    • @VitamixCorporation
      @VitamixCorporation  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do not have to open the lid of the mason jar. Per the video, you should let the salad naturally ferment for 5-3 days, while the jar is stored in a cool, dark place, like a kitchen pantry or cabinet.

    Lots of errors and incorrect use of terms thrown around in this video. For starters, Chlorine is NOT a heavy metal. Also, if you want the tamper and everything else that touches the food to be sterilized, you should not be touching it with your bare hands that were just touching the outside of the blender, the countertop, etc.

      Not sure that botox is unhealthy - sad that some people feel that they need to use it to look better. I blame our wonky society that places ridiculous pressures (especially on women) that their natural looks aren't good enough. Nothing wrong with the sauerkraut though!! :)
