But unfortunately, the game got taken down from the (lol I can't remember what the Xbox 360's store is called kill me) and the PlayStation Store a few years ago, taking its DLC with it. I was fortunate enough to buy every DLC car before they got removed and I actually still have them to this day. This game was generally not that entertaining as a kid, it was fun yea but only for like 29 minutes max, I remember being younger and always watching the first cars video game. Seeing how they made the cars universe into a free roam driving game was always entertaining. The second game though was jus missions that were somewhat fun for like I said 20 minutes and nothing else to it. No story, no cutscenes just nothing. Man I wish I had a ps2 when I was younger the first cars game looked so immersive and fun.

Very nice review! One of my favorite features of the game was definitely the unlocables: Every character from the movies were here and the skins were really well made!

I'd note that... I think that it's fitting that the Cars 2 game was so different from the others considering the fact that cars 2 drops so much of the Racing Culture references with being about Super Spies.
The mention of Mario Kart-esque games and the looks seemed to make me think of Split/Second: Velocity. You got to review that one day: it's a pretty underrated game set in a fictional reality show where you race against cars and set off some explosions around the track. Too bad Disney doesn't see the potential in that game because otherwise, that's one of my favorite games I had played when I explored it a few years back. Just as a note, the game is capped to 30fps, and the game will crash if you change applications during the game (at least from what I played on the PC Steam version).
I played Cars 2 a LOT as a kid and always had crazy fun with it but I tended to look back on those times as just rose tinted nostalgia goggles. Then the game got put on Xbox Gamepass. So I played it again all the way through recently and It was really just as fun as I remember. I noticed you didn't mention all the bonus things you can do on every track like hitting drift strips or 2-wheel gates, or how most tracks split at some point (something you praised highly in the speed racer review).

This Brings Back Memories, I used to Play this Game when my Parents got it for us on Cristmas for PS3, me and my Brother Played this game a lot because this was one of the only games we had at the time
Fun fact: The Wii version of Cars 2 (and some other Avalanche games) has anti-emulator security code. Not "anti-piracy" security code like a normal game, security code that literally doesn't trigger on real hardware. No idea why they wasted their time on that one but there you go!

The animation in this looks fantastic. Generally, the presentation really does it for me. If the game feels as good as it looks, it should be a hidden gem.
That boost meter is exactly the same one design-wise from Split/Second, a very, very fun racing game with a unique mechanic where instead of having a boost or whatnot, you could spend a full segment of the meter to destroy parts of the environment to destroy or at least disorient the other racers (the framing for that is that it's a television show of the same name).

I had this game for the wii when I was like seven and I played it ALL THE TIME. Lots of nostalgia
When I was younger, I got this game for Christmas and I loved it and still to this day I play it occasionally
bonded with my brother a lot through the local multiplayer battle mode in this game.
