Don't really expect you to reply to this because it's on the pinned comment but I really want to ask you how you feel about making this video only 2 weeks or so before the achievement list leaked for the GoldenEye remaster on Xbox live
I worked at eurocom as part of the QA team. Worked on Rio, Disney, Harry potter, golden eye.. Activision drove the projects in to the ground. No time, on a budget.. they thought throwing money and assets around would be enough, they cared very little for the product except for what it would sell for.
The multiplayer skill gap with the wiimotes actually probably explains why so many people loved playing cod on wii. I remember a small but dedicated portion of the community back in the day petitioning for the DLC's of Black Ops 2 to be added to the Wii U version of the game, the excitement when the first DLC was greenlit, and the outcry when 2-4 weren't.
I didn't play BO2 online much, but the previous games on Wii were really fun because of the wii remote aiming, and even though i owned a ps3 and 360, i played the wii version of WaW and CoD4:Reflex quite a bit. it added much more depth to the aiming system, but it took a while to get your settings right, or get good enough to just shrink the deadzone all the way down. The problem though was wii online sucked, so you had lots of problems with "lag shooting" (you had to aim ahead of enemies when they moved) and just overall low resolution and framerate.
I looooved playing BlackOps online on Wii, it was the only time I would get 20+ kills in a online game lol, it's something about the amount of input and quickness that made it so satisfying
I was about to say, this made quite a splash here in the UK. I talked to so many people at the time who never wanted to buy a Wii until this game game out. I remember liking it. The N64 game was really popular at all the youth clubs I went to as a kid
@@JustJohn43 The N64 game was just incredibly popular, period. Here in the states it was a system seller. I know so many people that bought (or had their parents buy) a N64 because of Goldeneye. When it was announced for the Wii a lot of my friends had nostalgia for the original and picked up a Wii for this game, I think a couple of them were kind of disappointed.
@@Gatorade69 at least in my local area, when I was a kid it was quite rare to have a Nintendo console unless it was a gameboy during the pokemon craze. You either had a Sega or a PS1. I saw my first N64 in 2000 when I visited a friends house. But I remember the local youth club had an n64 too. My mum didn't let me go when she found out people were playing shooting games lol
@@JustJohn43 I think back to where I grew up and it was a pretty even split, actually I think the N64 won out a little bit. I had like 4 friends (including myself) with a PS1 and I knew like 5 or 6 people with a N64, and yeah the Gameboy was big. A lot of people got the N64 for stuff like Pokemon Stadium too, like my middle school girlfriend at that time (which she was awesome cause she gave me Ninja Giaden on the NES). The youth clubs I reme beer had Playstations. Personally I'm glad I went the PlayStation route as it had the better selection of games. I even had a Dreamcast (at my dad's house) and I only saw and played a Saturn only once in my life. So Saturns were very rare.
Oh I remember this, starting out as a Wii exclusive for a year then ported to the 360 and PS3 as Reloaded. Played both versions. Do have to give credit to the musical score for perfectly finding the balance between the Craig and Brosnan era. Fantastic video as always man, hope you’ll cover 007 Legends one day.
@@HOTD108_ Reloaded is supposed to be port, but when I played it once it felt different and played a little differently than the wii. It's like they just sort of remade the wii version for the two other consoles. The Wii version had a lower graphics quality and less content, but it played smoother in my opinion and was easier to jump into a game. I think it's online capabilities lasted longer too.
I always thought the Goldeneye remake was initially exclusive to the Wii because the original Goldeneye was also a Nintendo exclusive and they wanted to market it as such, maybe for nostalgia purposes or something. I myself grew up with the Wii version and I used to play the multiplayer all the time as a kid. It was an absolute blast for me.
@@medes5597 Nintendo doesn't own the rights to goldeneye. In fact, there is a whole saga about the actual rightsholder throwing multiple hissy fits and cutting nintendo out of deals despite not legally being able to do so. It's why the original N64 game got re-released for the first time only recently.
@@medes5597 that's exactly what I said. Nintendo owns the rights to the N64 game, not the brand itself. The James bond rights holders can make a new goldeneye game without Nintendo if they want to.
You weren't missing much on 360 multiplayer. There was a nasty "glitch" called "Doubletapping" where you were respawned into dying within milliseconds of returning to the battle, taking two deaths in the span of seconds with no choice other than to take it or leave. Reloaded MP was already kind of dead by the time I got to it but that glitch effectively put a stake in the heart of it for me.
@@spooky_co Basically you die the moment you respawn from enemy fire. I don't know how it worked but I remember GameFAQs forums that brought it up and I remember seeing DTAP as the most prominent clan tag.
Probably a peer to peer issue. Lag switch as you kill them and keep unloading bullets; they'll probably take damage. Could do the same shit in older cod games but without the double tap.
Thank you for finding the people who know this game inside and out. Because of the limited time you have for a review, it can be very easy to miss something important that makes it special, but people like that are the best equipped to show you what it *is.* The video came out way better for it
To be honest, motions controls/pointer controls are one of the best ways to play a shooter. That's why even though Splatoon has duel analogue controls most tend to use the motion controls because it allows for far better accuracy when compared to twin stick shooting. Heck, when Doom 2016 was brought to the Switch many fans wanted pointer controls because of this very fact, and they delivered, as well as Gyro controls. The biggest problem with quite a few FPS games on the Wii wasn't the controls, it was the optimization and how poor it could be.
@@TheLakabanzaichrg It really depends on the game. Like with Splatoon's smooth framerate it's perfect, but for something like Doom 2016 on the Switch, while it was great they included it, the 30fps framerate didn't do it any favors. Luckily, Eternal fixed this.
It sad to hear people diminishing motion controls for shooters , that's like the best way motion controls could be used (honestly it's pointer controls), with the right configuration you could be as precise as you wanted and the only games that managed to have that level of customization was the Activision games
I personally feel that pointer controls are great for on rails shooters, but it becomes more annoying in games like goldeneye when the pointer controls the camera and you end up spinning on the spot, I also find it very hard to keep aim steady with the pointer and headshot almost become impossible.
@@Aidenkong523 Far Cry Vengeance on the Wii actually had a remedy for that where you could lock the camera by pressing the A button. If only that was included in a game that wasn't absolutely, hilariously slapdash and sloppy lol
The Wiimote is the best controller for FPS games, but sadly due to a lot of reasons the console had very few games of the genre and IR aiming got forgotten by the industry. I've played this game back when it was released and found it to be pretty good at what it was, remember playing a few matches of local multiplayer with friends and having a lot of fun with it.
Whenever I hear people complaining about Wiimote shooters and always invite the to play Red steel 2 , Conduit 2 and Black ops , those were the best example of IR pointer controls
There's a lot of Wii FPS games, actually. I've been on a mission to track down as many Wii FPS games as possible, and I found there are quite a few of them. Hell, there's like 6 Call of Duty games on the Wii alone, from CoD 3 all the way up to Black Ops.
@@Takimeko true, but all of the COD games are downports, I wish there was more exclusive stuff designed around the Wii controls, can think only of Metroid Prime, The Conduit and Red Steel (Red Steel 2 being such an underrated game, totally deserves a Switch remake)
I have a cousin that used to play this A LOT. My aunt and uncle only let them own Nintendo consoles and they were not allowed to play M rated games so this being on Wii and rated T just worked out for them lol. I remember even years after the game came out I'd go to their house and see them playing online multiplayer. Also I want to add that nightclub section is so good even though its been 10 years since I've played it I remember how cool I thought it was.
The Multiplayer was something else on Wii. I remember stomping hard in the first 2 weeks, because I had MW2 experience. I dropped it because Reach came out (Have always been a massive Halo fan, it's the only online multiplayer game I really play). When I came back out of interest a few months later I got my butt handed to me soooooo hard. Don't know if it was because of hackers, or because only the die hard fans remained at that time. I'm really considering ripping my disc to play it on dolphin with the discord server guys for a few rounds just to relive those days. :) Thanks for reminding me of the good memories of this gem, minimme :)
online Wii FPS games were the best, I played every COD for hundreds of hours each. I had an 360 at the time but I preferred the Wii remote controls so much more, like the players you interviewed for this video said- I agree that it better rewards the skill of the player and allows you do certain controls and actions that either aren't possible or are very awkward with traditional controls. Plus the Wii community was just so much nicer to play with, almost every game lacking voice chat was honestly a blessing if you compare to the average voice chat on xbox live etc.
@@beardalaxy omg finally someone acknowledging the Conduit games lol, that and Red steel 2 were the best motion shorters (IR pointer controls i should say)
As much as I liked both games, I always felt _Goldeneye Reloaded_ as not so much a modernized version of the N64 game, but more of a remake of _the movie's storyline_ albeit with elements from the original game's storyline thrown in - like the bit with Bond going to Siberia during the first Goldeneye strike.
I consider it Activision’s equivalent to EA’s Nightfire, as Nightfire is also a quasi-remake of a previous Bond’s movie starring the current Bond at the time. Nightfire is basically Moonraker with Bronson, and Goldeneye Reloaded is, of course, Goldeneye with Craig.
It's pretty arbitrary and semantical whether you label the game as a remake of the original game or a remake of the movie's story. All that should matter is whether or not the game works as it's own thing.
Listening to how the Wii multi-player is described reminds me of how it was to play the 64 original. What you brought to the game is what made it so much fun.
The second half of this video really really REALLY makes me wanna see somebody do a series that's basically just "War stories" of old video game multiplayer modes. Delving into the history of the game itself, the online culture surrounding the game, the things that made people like it, the difficulties it faced, the current state of the online mode, and of course interviewind old/current players. And if it's a game that's not supported any longer, the people involved in keeping the game alive.
......I never thought I'd want to promote my own channel with the large (LARGE) inactivity I have, but I do have a few random Black Ops 1 videos using the old in-game recording and uploading feature. God, that was a weird time. Was still hilarious with my SAM Turret clip. Placed it, it locked on, turned and fired right at a wall and nuked me.
I was in fourth grade, everyone else was playing Modern Warfare, but my mom wouldn't let me play M Rated games. I got Goldeneye and quantum of solace instead. I played them over and over again, and I was elated when I heard that Legends was going to have way more content than Goldeneye with so many cool set pieces and guns. Can't believe it sucked that bad with the nonsensical story, and the gunplay just felt worse.
@@Gammera2000 oh yeah where there was literally zero advantage to shooting them? You'd just have a swarm of armored enemies with endless amounts of concussion grenades
The Goldeneye remake is really weird in that it feels less like a remake of N64 Goldeneye and more like a video game adaptation of an alternate reality Goldeneye film remake.
I played the Wii Version to death when I got it back in 2011 or so, I remember having a blast with it, even in the online multiplayer. Granted I exclusively played it using a Gamecube Controller which was the most comfortable experience i had playing it.
Small correction: Nintendo didn't have anything to do with the cancellation of the XBLA version. It all came down to Rare not having the rights to the Bond Licence and thus the Licence holders canned it as they already didn't like the original game much as to them it did things they didn't like (Such as all the blood, it's depiction of Bond, etc). Notice how a lot of Bond games after the original GoldenEye didn't do many things it did. But anyway this is an excellent review, you pretty much sum up my thoughts: an ok at best game on it's own but to me a terrible remake that is frankly insulting with how badly it butchers the original movie and game. Also nice to see you mentioned the discord community as I used to be a part of it back in like 2017 but retired from the game in 2018, it was a fun time and the community is pretty good, happy to see it still going. I may not like the game much but I had fun with the multiplayer and I have nostalgia for it.
The rights were tied up between Nintendo, Rare and the company that owns the James Bond franchise, and yeah you are correct, they were very stingy with how they wanted Bond Portrayed. They didn't want him to be a mindless murderer.
@@Gatorade69 Nintendo only had publishing rights at most, but by no means any ownership over the game. They had no say over what was done with it. So they weren't a factor in it's cancellation, people just pin the blame on them without doing research.
an ex Rare dev who worked on the XBLA project said Nintendo was indeed the stumbling block that prevented the 360 remaster from seeing the light of day.
@@TheFEARSlayer01 Do not confuse publishing and distribution. When you have a distributor, you find the money to make the production, and you carry the financial risk of developing the title, and the distributor prints copies and brings them to stores, but you have the ownership of the intellectual property afterwards. When you have a publisher, the publisher has full control and ownership of the final property, but publisher also carries the risk, and pays you as developer in 'milestones' which usually come every 1-3 months, so in a publisher system, you do work-for-hire. There are some complications on top but this is the basic gist. Often, there is a clause for example in publishing contract, that over revenue of X, developer also gets late royalties. Or that after Y years, if the publisher does nothing with the franchise, developer gets full ownership from the publisher transferred. But these are exceptions more so than the rule. So indeed you say yourself Nintendo was publisher on the title. If there was no extra ownership transfer agreement, Nintendo owns it. But you need more parties to reach an agreement due to lapsing old contracts and changes in structure.
Thank you for doing this! I've made so many memories playing this game. It's great to see a spike in activity after so long thanks to this video. Looking forward to playing with you all. Be sure to join our Discord community linked in the description, otherwise playing online will be tricky. Thanks again ✌
I literally said just a couple days ago how bad I was craving Minimme content and by God does this absolute champion continue to deliver. Thankyou for everything you do and every second you put into editing and recording. You are appreciated, mate
I love the Nightclub bit too! I loved the lighting and atmosphere. There's a moment in ZombiU when exploring Ron Freedman's flat that reminds me of it that is arguably more beautiful. Would you ever consider covering ZombiU? It made me so happy hearing people talk about how good the Wii Remote was for competitive. I remember playing COD BlOps2 on Wii U with a Wii Remote and Nunchuck and it made the game feel so much better for me
@@thisaccountisntreal107 I was lucky enough to have a PSVR in the past. I second this. The depth perception in VR combined with motion controls is amazing. RE7 is one of my favourite gaming experiences because of this. It will be a dream come true if I ever get to play Metroid Prime in VR
This is one of those games that discreetly have a lot of historical significance, and you really went the extra mile to put it properly in context and give us a balanced perspective on it. Excellent work mate, much appreciated.
I remember there being so much hype around this game when it was coming out. Every (gaming) magazine had 007 on the front, and everybody was looking forward to it. My friends and I used to play goldeneye on the 64 on the weekends (slappers no oddjob) and we were sooo hyped for this to come out.
As a huge fan of Crysis 3’s multiplayer, it’s great to see you taking the multiplayer component of older games very seriously! When I think of games from the late 2000’s to early 2010’s, I think about all the single-player games with a tacked on multiplayer mode, like Bioshock 2, Bodycount, Crysis 3, etc, and how these multiplayer communities have been largely forgotten and overlooked by the gaming community! Thanks for shining a spotlight on one in this video!
I rented this game at blockbuster and it just didn’t work. The game would load but my controller inputs just did nothing on the menus and I could still use the home button. Great fun
Apparently there's been Bond games that planned to have other playable Bond actors as unlockables but EON have always squashed it. Really sad because I'd LOVE to play as Moore or Dalton. 007 Legends was such a wasted opportunity in that regard.
It's nice to see an opinion on the game that sees it for what it is. It isn't trying to be the original and it never said it was going to be, but it's not completely awful like some people make it out to be either. Your description at the end is pretty much spot on; it doesn't really stand out but it is also a few hours of fun.
I'm so happy to hear others appreciated the motion controls for competitive multiplayer. I have some great memories of this game in University with my friends, we all got very competitive with the motion controls in 4 player split screen. I genuinely think this game was an underappreciated gem, and bundling the gold controller was another huge mistake imo. It basically gives the idea the game is meant to be played with the controller, which when done, really just becomes a bland COD clone like it's portrayed throughout the video. The motion controls actually added depth to the game too, like allowing tilt around corners when holding the C button on the nunchuck etc. It basically gave the game the complexity of movement and twitch aiming (at long range, at least) of a PC game.
The motion controls really amplified the stealth aspect, too. You really had to aim your shots juuuust right, or else the guards would set off the alarms.
7:54, why do people forget that you can either shoot the man on the toilet like in the N64 game or drop down in front of him and punch his lights out like in the movie?
@@lutherheggs451 except for FPS games where the controls where more or less consistently good if not amazing. Because hey, using a controller that you physically aim in a gaming about shooting things is both extremely fun and satisfying. It helps that you hold the wiimote steady to play instead of taking it out of it's comfort zone and swinging it like a sword that is often the fault of most other kinds of motion controls.
One of the things I remember being really intriguing about this game was that it absolutely wasn’t a remake of Goldeneye. But the novelty of it being a re-imagining of a Brosnan era Bond movie as if it was a Craig era Bond movie. To the point where I wished the tried something like that again instead of making 007 Legends. Like, imagine how crazy Tomorrow Never Dies or The World is Not Enough could be with an early 2010s setting and Craig as the protagonist ...
@@Ghost_Of_SAS Knowing he was making a video I was trying to gift him as many kills as I could to make it look fun. There's another one at 21:57. That first one you saw was real, I knew he was there but couldn't have stopped him from killing me. He was going like 2 - 13 most games because everyone else was more experienced. He doesn't show it in video but I gave him 5-10 kills every match I played.
This video was superb! The final portion really took me back, I played so much CoD on the Wii back in the day and while I never enjoyed GoldenEye as much there was a lot of crossover in the multiplayer circles, clans etc. and you've described the community perfectly - small but dedicated and enthusiastic. Not owning a PS3/360 back in the day and playing CoD and this on Wii was kind of a joke to a lot of people but they were always impressed with how well it ran. Also a lot of people have already 'pointed' this out but the Wii remote is easily the best way to play an FPS but it was under-utilised in most games so shoutout to the Activision Wii developers for making those controls so customisable (dead-zones, curser speed, etc), they really put a lot of effort into building and supporting something they could have easily half-assed. Know there are still active servers is making me want to jump back in!
Your scene setting at the beginning before the main review is great. Some of these old games need context to really appreciate. I remember the ads for the wii game where they showed no game footage and just random street goers talking about ‘the best multiplayer game of all time’
The game was supposed to be a complete reimagination of both the game AND the movie, using the same story but told in a new way, it IS supposed to be it's own thing.
But as a Campaign (I won't get into multiplayer, which appears to have its own merits), it's simply a mediocre remake; essentially the best of Brosnan Bond stripped down and made into a Craig Bond entry. It was robbed of GoldenEye's style and spectacle, and this new game replaces those factors with a mediocre campaign that is nearly as dull and lifeless as its reimagined characters. If it was meant to stand on its own, then naming it 'GoldenEye' wasn't the best idea. But as a cashgrab, using that title was a strong move; it's really the most memorable part of the single player campaign on 360 and PS3 (one can argue that the situation was far different on Wii). There's also the problem that this game is working on two levels as far as expectation: it is automatically referencing both the film and N64 game, yet it does next to nothing to improve on the latter, nor does it make improvements (thanks to more modern tech) that would (should?) allow it to be a more cinematic retelling of the former. Pointless (outside $$$). It's a depressing release for those that cared about the original zeitgeist around the film and game from 1995-98, and simply another mediocre licensed game to most others. Imagine waiting 13 years for this. Ugh.
Incredibly unpopular opinion: I have had more fun playing Wii games than any other platform (including many of the FPS games). Loved this game, Modern Warfare: Reflex, Black Ops, Conduit, and Red Steel 2, in particular. (Also, Godfather: Blackhand Edition on Wii is better than the PS3 version, js) Edit: Also, do a video on Excitebots: Trick Racing!
I never thought other likeminded people existed until I found this Wii FPS sanctuary of a comment section. Wii for me had the best FPS multiplayer experiences, and I've played just about every important FPS game on every platform. It's hard to describe, but it was something special. I still miss it.
You mentioned that the original remake never saw the light of day - it did! It got leaked recently! Well worth a play, it's basically the original game with shinier graphics and the option to play with modern controls.
@@dapperfan44 I don't own a Switch, but by all accounts it's a really disappointing release with little or no effort put into it and loads of bugs. You'd be better off playing the original game on an emulator - some of the work fans have put into running GoldenEye on emulators is phenomenal.
@@gothamite27 I did hear of that and I also don't own a Switch. However I did get it on my Xbox and, given that I haven't played Goldeneye 007 on an N64 in almost 2 decades, it seemed fine to me. Very hard though.

I remember being a kid heading to Toys R Us to get the new Kirby game and my dad spotted this game on the shelf and got super nostalgic of the N64 game. It was my first shooter and I thought it was so cool I put so much time into it. No matter what people say it will always be one of my favorite games and have a special place in my heart.
i only had nostalgia for the movie, but not for the N64 game. I had a blast with Reloaded on the Xbox 360. Even years after release ive played it online every day.
Honestly I really feel like the problem with modern James bond games is they get the general shooter treatment.. but I really feel like a Hitman/Splinter cell kind of game with the ability to go guns loud would be really refreshing. Infiltrating a party either by impersonating a guest, sneaking in from the roof or pretending to be a member of the catering team would be awesome for a James Bond game. Make the shooting feel good and enemy ai be solid and I'd be sold
I grew up with the proper goldeneye on N64, i was so hyped when i heard the news about this remake, went out day one and got the collectors edition with the gold controller....and never have i ever been so disappointed with a game before haha. It was like whoever made it had no idea what made goldeneye good in the first place.
@@melancholyentertainment that's because it brought people so much joy at the time, yes the gameplay hasn't aged well but what do you expect for this nineties video game which is probably one of the best N64 video games ever made and one of the best Bond video games of all time as well. 👍🏻
My dad pre-ordered me this game when it released on the Wii (the one with the controller which I think made it, I even bought a second for friends). I absolutely loved it. I played both the single player and the multiplayer for hours. That's the one game I ever played multiplayer on the Wii and it was really good. Maybe some of my most fond and formative online gaming memories.
I remember when this came out. I had a ps3 and a 360. I rented it from blockbuster for my 360. Laser that night I was in a bo1 zombies lobby with some friends and we were going on a string of high rounds. Between each game of zombies i’d switch frim hdmi1 to hdmi2 and play a little of this then flip flop back and forth. Good memory
When I was in my early 20s (2011/2012) my friends and I played both this and Halo 3 a LOT together. CJ had a huge TV and playing the old 4-player split screen with 4 of us on PS3 was some of the most fun I had. We especially liked Gun Game (I think the mode was called Escalation?) where you start with a pistol and end with an RPG. It's worth mentioning that there is a 007 Classic difficulty which does away with the regenerating health and forces you to pick up body armour and avoid damage in general to survive, just like the N64 game. (Edit: ah, you said that at the end. I never did finish the game on this mode as the final fight was just too hard.)
Retrospective time: I grew playing N64 with my cousins, so when the time came to get my own system, my parents pushed me towards the choice of a Wii. It was fine, until my friends all started talking about COD, Halo, and Assassin's Creed in school while I was stuck with Wii Sports and Mario Kart. I wanted to try something similar to what they had, but there was no way my parents would have gotten another console in the same generation and so asked my mother for Goldeneye. On Black Friday of 2011, we got Goldeneye with a Classic Controller, and it gave me a glimpse of what the other consoles had. As this was the first fps game I ever had, my skill in multiplayer was terrible, but I had lots of fun playing the singleplayer and multiplayer modes. To this day, I like for what it is as it gave Wii players some of that COD-like experience on a different system that it was made for (as in developed for the Wii in mind, not an afterthought like the COD ports). Also, I discovered my love for EDM and Deadmau5 by listening to I Remember for the first time ever in this game. It completely opened my 11 year old eyes to a whole new style of music that I probably wouldn't found out about just on normal pop radio. For these reasons, Goldeneye 007 holds a very special place in my heart.
In case this *is* the last time you say our names, I just want to say thank you for making so many wonderful videos! Your channel's been a joy to watch and I look forward to what you have in the future!
I absolutely love this game, that nightclub level is magic and the re-imagining of Goldeneye as a Daniel Craig outing always intrigued me. It fills out the timeline between Quantum of Solace and Skyfall perfectly, along with Bloodstone.
Bro you had to be there for the clan battles on wii. There was no party chat function on wii, so finding a friend or group to play with required work. Met alot of people from all walks of life playing that game. The community was honestly the best.
James bond seems like the perfect character for a video game, it's a shame its mostly just got cheap movie tie in shooters. Im glad the hitman devs have the licence now, I'm interested in what they can do with it
@@alfa01spotivo If I remember correctly, Quantum of Solace was a complete disaster to develop because the film's script kept on changing, and EON didn't notify Treyarch on it in time.

I played the Wii version in around 2012 or so, and absolutely loved it! I had memories of the N64 original, but I was too young to remember things like level layouts, so I was genuinely really happy with this remake.
I LOVED this game when my mom wouldn't let me play anything above a T rating. I warms my heart to see that the dedicated fans are keeping the game alive!
Was just watching your content, Didn't realize this was a new upload. Its nice to see a video about this game, I remember a 2 week period in 2010 playing it when I wasn't playing Black ops and Halo. I enjoyed it for what it was but couldn't help shake that cod feeling when I was playing it on 360
4:00 I feel like it's also worth mentioning that the Wii had a few exclusives launching around the same time too. Donkey Kong Country Returns and Sonic Colors notably.
I had every system growing up, but when this came out I literally put more hours on the wii than any of them and this was the only game I played on wii
This game was my very first FPS I ever played, as my parents thought this game looked less violent than COD. Plus we only had the Wii console. And I was strangely good at it considering. The community was small enough on the game that you often ran into the same players, so you would know who was good and bad at the game. I will never forget this game and the fun I had double tapping players when I killed them. Outpost, Nightclub, and archives were my favorite maps. The jungle and dark map with a lot of pipes were both fun too.
I played the hell out of the Wii's multiplayer back around 2014 or 2015. I remember spending so many countless hours on it. I've played the singleplayer of this game many times too, both wii and ps3 versions.
I had this game. I think I got through about 4 levels. I wasn't even disappointed. Just completely disengaged. This was my first experience of a game being remade and I should have learned from the experience. Looking right at you, Mafia.
Played the multiplayer tons. Just like CoD5, 4, and Black Ops, all on Wii. This is a pet pieve of mine, but, could you maybe try setting the center screen dead zone to zero (0) in any upcoming Wii FPS games you might play? Makes the games so much more responsive and, IMO, enjoyable to both play and watch.
I know the original GoldenEye 007 is legendary, but the 2010 remake is a superb game in its own right. I always tend to watch playthroughs of the game as part of watching Daniel Craig's entire tenure as Bond.
Idk about you but playing an FPS with pointer controls is the single best use of motion controls and are extremely fun imo. It's not just cause of the novelty. Games like the Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii where some of best controls in gaming that I've ever used and I would even buy games like Call of Duty for the Wii/Wii U just so that I can play them with pointer controls. It honestly surprises me that it surprised you that people prefer the pointer controls. Yeah motion controls where often derided back in the day but pointer controls in an FPS was scene as the one MAJOR exception.
So I don't quite know if this is the same version of the game that you referenced but there WAS a XBLA remake of Goldeneye that actually was found about 10 months ago. It was covered by Modern Vintage Game so thats the only reason I even know about it.

Dude the cod BO2 community on Wii U was something special 😂 that was genuinely my favorite way to play that game even though i had a PS3 also
kinda sad i missed out on that cuz i loved playing black ops 2 and i had a wii u around that time lol
It really was a special moment in gaming. I hoping for it's resurgence.
I looooved playing BlackOps online on Wii, it was the only time I would get 20+ kills in a online game lol, it's something about the amount of input and quickness that made it so satisfying
I remember the insane hype for this title coming out here in the UK, felt like it dominated every TV Channel out there with adverts
I was about to say, this made quite a splash here in the UK. I talked to so many people at the time who never wanted to buy a Wii until this game game out. I remember liking it. The N64 game was really popular at all the youth clubs I went to as a kid
Oh damn, what are the chances of seeing another TH-camr i love lmao
@@JustJohn43 The N64 game was just incredibly popular, period. Here in the states it was a system seller. I know so many people that bought (or had their parents buy) a N64 because of Goldeneye. When it was announced for the Wii a lot of my friends had nostalgia for the original and picked up a Wii for this game, I think a couple of them were kind of disappointed.
@@Gatorade69 at least in my local area, when I was a kid it was quite rare to have a Nintendo console unless it was a gameboy during the pokemon craze. You either had a Sega or a PS1. @@JustJohn43 I think back to where I grew up and it was a pretty even split, actually I think the N64 won out a little bit.

The OST for this game is completely underated. I'll still listen to it despite being stuck to mostly Gamerips, of a somewhat lower quality.
Oh yeah? That’s what you remember? Oh yeah? Well dude. I had the DS version. I was SUFFERING.
Are both versions different games or is the Reloaded version just a port?

Nintendo have part of the rights. I imagine they only agreed to a remake if they got an exclusivity window.

How would someone do this? Like just pop them as they spawned? This sounds like a pain in the ass lol.
@@spooky_co Basically you die the moment you respawn from enemy fire. I don't know how it worked but I remember GameFAQs forums that brought it up and I remember seeing DTAP as the most prominent clan tag.

On the Wii the night club level had some dark 2D sprites dancing as part of the crowd and I found that very eerie and dream like.
The frame rate sometimes killed accuracy, but it's a pretty good mechanic for shooters
I've played this game back when it was released and found it to be pretty good at what it was, remember playing a few matches of local multiplayer with friends and having a lot of fun with it.

online Wii FPS games were the best, I played every COD for hundreds of hours each.

This is false.

Thanks for shining a spotlight on one in this video!
Sometimes a tacked on multiplayer was a fun experience. I think about Half Life 2 with It's gravity gun and throwing toilets at people's heads.

Absolutely baffling that people would've rather used a classic controller than motion controls for a game all about aiming and shooting things

@@lutherheggs451 except for FPS games where the controls where more or less consistently good if not amazing. @@lutherheggs451 not true, FPS worked perfectly with the motion controls, even better than the standard controller.

No its not
But as a Campaign (I won't get into multiplayer, which appears to have its own merits), it's simply a mediocre remake; essentially the best of Brosnan Bond stripped down and made into a Craig Bond entry.
Ugh.
Too bad the back of the box literally yells:
GOLDENEYE IS BACK, GET YOUR FRIENDS
Incredibly unpopular opinion: I have had more fun playing Wii games than any other platform (including many of the FPS games).
Loved this game, Modern Warfare: Reflex, Black Ops, Conduit, and Red Steel 2, in particular. (Also, Godfather: Blackhand Edition on Wii is better than the PS3 version, js)
Edit: Also, do a video on Excitebots: Trick Racing!
Actually not unpopular at all, it's just that a lot of people are oblivious to how good pointer controls are in FPS games outside of Nintendo fans.
I never thought other likeminded people existed until I found this Wii FPS sanctuary of a comment section. Wii for me had the best FPS multiplayer experiences, and I've played just about every important FPS game on every platform. It's hard to describe, but it was something special. I still miss it.
Yeah, one of my first shooters. Great fun.
There is no Nintendo game better then the PS3! Say no to meth kids
You mentioned that the original remake never saw the light of day - it did! It got leaked recently! Well worth a play, it's basically the original game with shinier graphics and the option to play with modern controls.
Essentially what this remake shoukd have been
How about the Switch and Xbox versions today?
@@dapperfan44 I don't own a Switch, but by all accounts it's a really disappointing release with little or no effort put into it and loads of bugs. You'd be better off playing the original game on an emulator - some of the work fans have put into running GoldenEye on emulators is phenomenal.
@@gothamite27 I did hear of that and I also don't own a Switch. However I did get it on my Xbox and, given that I haven't played Goldeneye 007 on an N64 in almost 2 decades, it seemed fine to me. Very hard though.
So weird seeing both of their faces together, just completely different angles haha
12:44 Nice to know I wasn't the only one who fell in love with the mission. Thank you for letting everyone know what song was playing because I didn't have a phone back when I played.
Entertaining as always, Minimme.
I highly recommend checking out the strikingly impressive Lego Star Wars DS ports some time in the future, I think you'll be surprised.
I have the 360 version and I think it one of the best movie licensed games of this generation.
That thumbnail is so damned terrifying.
I actually refrained from playing this on the Xbox 360 back in the day because of the achievements having odd numbers in the Gamerscore.
Cool. Now, whenever I comment why I think achievements are toxic to gaming, I have another example...
@@TheNinjaCrash I’m confused, sport. Care to explain why this is “toxic”?
@@MrNashfury Achievement have shifted the attitude of gaming from fun to meaningless e-dick measuring.
I've seen people not buying a game cause it doesn't have platinum trophies, I've seen people buy ganes exclusively cause it has easy trophies, or people that play games exclusively for trophies.
@@TheNinjaCrash I understand your point of view and agree with it in many ways, but I don’t understand how you have derived that from a light-hearted post.
7:36 I will admit, I definitely thought "he really doesn't like it, huh", mishearing "when the Dam level ends" as "when the damn level ends"
I grew up playing this on the Wii. Still one of my favorite multiplayer experiences of all time. Maybe it’s just nostalgia but I loved this game.
What still blows my mind, is that the 2010 remake is now old as the original game was at the time of its release.
i only had nostalgia for the movie, but not for the N64 game. I had a blast with Reloaded on the Xbox 360. Even years after release ive played it online every day.
Always glad to see a new video 👌🏻
Man, love your content, Minimme. I always know your stuff is going to be great
honestly the skillgap argument reminds of why so many people swear by VR shooters; hands-on personal skill can really appeal to folks
Honestly, it's a disgrace that gyro controlers aren't standard in games.
I absolutely loved Goldeneye on the Wii. Such a fun experience
Bro I was absolutely insane at goldeneye multi on wii. The fun worked so well for me. I miss it a shit ton
I grew up with the proper goldeneye on N64, i was so hyped when i heard the news about this remake, went out day one and got the collectors edition with the gold controller....and never have i ever been so disappointed with a game before haha. It was like whoever made it had no idea what made goldeneye good in the first place.
Been waiting for this one 👊👊💯
The wiimote unironically the only controller that works for FPS.
For me I loved the game, yes it wasn’t as great as the N64 original but still it was one of the better Bond games made in the 21st century. 👍🏻
The N64 original was revolutionary for its time but in an objective sense it plays like dogshit, too many people view it with nostalgia goggles.
Where are you ? I've been looking for the last great opium den for years now.
Is he leaving youtube? I only occasionally watch these videos so I haven't really kept up with anything going on.
@@cruisemissile77 He's no longer going to be reading Patreon names out loud at the end of each video, due to the increased number of them.
@@bb010g Ok thank you I was just overthinking it
I absolutely love this game, that nightclub level is magic and the re-imagining of Goldeneye as a Daniel Craig outing always intrigued me.
Yep! I was the MK Clan leader 😂 played with everyone. MK J CAGE
11:36 is that supposed to be Xenia in the purple disco outfit? Her model looks like Ghislane Maxwell at a 70's party.
James bond seems like the perfect character for a video game, it's a shame its mostly just got cheap movie tie in shooters.
Im glad the hitman devs have the licence now, I'm interested in what they can do with it
Still, have to wonder if they will regret it. EON is very difficult to work with, at least if we believe the statements of prior devs.
@@solcreate490 oh like what?
@@alfa01spotivo If I remember correctly, Quantum of Solace was a complete disaster to develop because the film's script kept on changing, and EON didn't notify Treyarch on it in time.
@@WH250398 Well, that and they have all kinds of restrictions on game content. Even something like a homeless person isn't allowed in a Bond game.
Why? Well, because EON said that there "are no homeless people" in the Bond universe.
Awesome video man
I played the Wii version in around 2012 or so, and absolutely loved it! I had memories of the N64 original, but I was too young to remember things like level layouts, so I was genuinely really happy with this remake.
Holy shit, I came into the channel after watching a longplay of this wondering if you had ever reviewed it, just to see this fresh upload. Very nice.
I LOVED this game when my mom wouldn't let me play anything above a T rating. I warms my heart to see that the dedicated fans are keeping the game alive!
The goldeneye cover is surprisingly good
The redesigns of Xenia and Valentin are baffling.
Early, I already know it's gonna be great
This game was my very first FPS I ever played, as my parents thought this game looked less violent than COD. The jungle and dark map with a lot of pipes were both fun too.
this was one of my all time favorite games and honestly its a great remake.
Makes the games so much more responsive and, IMO, enjoyable to both play and watch.
fun fact: this game had the biggest production ever for a Wii title
Oh man, I've been waiting for this. I can't wait for the Legends video.
That was Rare's port that was cancelled.
@@Elatenl I'm referring to the part of the video where he mentioned there was a remake/remaster that was in the works by Rare but it never released due to licensing issues. I'm aware these are 2 different games.
@@bb010g yeah I was mostly bringing this up because he mentioned that we didn't ever really get to see it despite the fact we have a leaked build of the game.
Incredible video, thank you for the rush of memories and touching on the small fanbase still out there for Wii FPS. If you made one on Conduit 2, I'd die happy. Played the shit out of that back in the day, still remember my old username: jonny.
A bygone era.
Bit of a shameful plug, but I did a couple of videos recently on the Conduit games. You can find them on my channel.
How could they make a GoldenEye game and leave out Boris????
"Hahahaha yes, I am unlicencable!"
I've never seen such violence between Patrons! Mr Sunday Movies I hope you can recover! :(
It's especially insane that Bloodstone DS and Goldeneye DS were released the same day.
A Wii remote being better for aiming than horrible thumbsticks should not be a surprise!
