What really helps me with insomnia was cardio exercise , But not at high intense level , because high intense cardio adds more stress and stimulates too much the symphatetic nervous system , you should try more endurance long slow aerobic training at relaxing pace if you Want to jogg or walk, and at least it should be a 30 minutes long constant excerise

Oh my word "My insomnia is worse than your insomnia" thats pretty much what you are saying.. everyone who sufferers with insomnia suffers with it differently.. and everyone feels shitty with different amount of sleep. Someone who used to get 9 hours sleep then only gets 6 hours broken will feel shitty just like you Marc. Insomnia is not a contest and it every one of us who suffers with insomnia will feel just as shitty as you for most days.

Sorry but you got away the easy way. Serious insomniacs had a nice chuckle from this story as the advice is th emost basic there is and we've done it, tried it and failed so many times. Adrenal fatigue CAN in fact cause bad insomnia, heavy metals CAN in fact cause insomnia as some have a geneteic predesposition to accumulate them in their tissues. Liver problems, gut problems, thryoid problems CAN all contribute to massive insomnia episodes and those of us with these issues fight a battle every day. I'm glad you resolved it and finished with it. I'm sure you're happy to have your life back! :-)

We need to talk I’ve gone through the process of sleeplessness for about 8 months to a year. And I still don’t know if it’s due to my extreme adrenal fatigue or a weak nervous system? Or do they both go hand in hand?

I was sleeping better but still had extreme adrenal fatigue, then I went on an alchohol binge for 5 days and I’m back to not sleeping for months. Do you think it’s my nervous system or my adrenals? Or do both go hand in hand? If you have a guess let me know please.

It might also just be metabolic, I was over exercising, under eating and not getting enough carbs which resulted in several nutritional deficiencies after 6 years etc (thought I was being healthy, felt great in the initial years) unknowingly I was putting my body in a catabolic state which will cause the body to stay awake and alert, as it is meant to. Think about what you are doing and what messages you are sending to your central nervous system via the way you eat exercise and live...you might be putting your body in survival mode and its simply doing what its meant to be doing. I cut back and changed the way I exercise opting for more anabolic promoting activities with ample recovery time, ate more frequent balanced meals and also allowed myself to take naps. It has taken a long time for my body to balance out and recover, I now don't even need to bother with or think about sleep hygiene, I get tired and sleep. I hope this helps someone in a similar predicament, the worst part is not knowing what is happening and how to recover.

99% of insomnia is due to the mind racing. It then feeds the subconscious as you sleep and makes it difficult to sleep.

Not sure It is 98 percent. But it's a lot. However, racing thoughts can be traced to imbalances so still somatic related

There are several things for ways to treat sleeplessness
Try to keep it quite around you
    Keep as calm as possible
Stick to the same sleeping times each day
(I discovered these and the reasons they work on Hartlyn sleep system website )

My plan is to re-set my internal clock by being awake for about 36hours. And by now I've sleeps 5h the past 2 days. Last night I slept for less than an hour. Soo today I didn't sleep after my husband went to work at 6 since I've been up all night in bed pretty much. I plan on going to sleep tonight at 23:00 and just to be sure I wont be touching my phone from 22:00 to 23:00, instead I'll read a book and listen to calm music. And when I do go to bed I will try the 20min thing. I've been taking magnesium tablets every morning aswell. This emotional and physical horror of insomnia for me has been going on for over a year. Fingers crossed :)

IT WORKED.. been able to fall a sleep for the past 4 days. I guess Magnesium really helped and the 36h awake period. Days I go to bed later 23:30-00.00 I feel ready to sleep before.. Recommend!

Sandra Saar well, I suffer from insomania for 5-6 year, I feel sleepy and tired but I keep in my mind " did i sleep yet?" and then im up again I use tablets too, tablets for depression which my doctor says too use them just 4 week but there are 9 months that im still using them.
this is sick, awfull, this poison cuz all long day i keep on my if I can sleep that night and its torrible, there are nights that i can sleep faster but very rondom. Im still fighting it, it kills me, there are days that i think for suicide cuz it stills happening but yeah, for me its great to see that I m not the only one, so I'd like to share this with you.

goni demaj Try to re-set your inner clock by being awake for 36hours. Read, write, clean etc. Then start a new routine - go to sleep every day at the same time and wake up at the same time aswell. Every morning take a magnesium suppliment (could be in a form of a pill or a water disolvable tablet) that comes with B6 vitamin already included. Before sleep (bout an hour or so) read in a dim light or draw, NO ELECTRONICS. You could also move your bedroom around to start over completely. Give yourself a fresh start. Also maybe get a new hobby, new good things in your life might get you out of your depression. And most of all - get intouch with your spirit, try to train your mind asmuch as your body. Every problem included depression is treatable..atleast to some extent. I've been battling with depression and stress my whole life, but I've learned that it's mostly in my own head.. sleeping doesnt get better right away because insomnia has a tendency to creep back into your life.. just gotta keep to your times and most of all deal and solve problems during daytime, thatway your brain doesnt have as much to think about when your actially trying to sleep.

From all the stuff I read or listen to, I think its time to try to get my gallbladder working properly because something is lacking in our vodies and if the gallbladder is full of sludge and its not working properly that can cause sleep issue's and digestion problems can cause it also. So time to change the diet and stop eating cheese for a while. Good luck Gerard.!

I think that I have Insomnia this has been happening for about 8 months now and at this moment I haven't been able to sleep in 3 days. I'm not one of those insomniacs that don't know how to turn their electronics off. I put everything like that up at a certain time everynight. Its when I actually close my eyes and try to go to sleep. My brain does not allow me too. I start remembering bad things that happened to me in the past or things I wish i'd had done another way. I don't even feel guilty for them its just memorys I have that I wish i would have done better. I am having a hard time typing this, because i'm having to concentrate. When I do get to sleep though I always wake up like two hours later feeling worse but I'm not ever able to get back to sleep. I take alot of the over the counter sleeping pills. At first when i noticed I had problems sleeping they would usually, somewhat help me actually fall asleep. Now they are not. I recently did go through a bad break up too. I was with this girl for a year. She helped me asleep alot of the times but i still felt unrested the day after. I am writing this very early in the morning because i just now got up from lying in bed all night with my eyes closed and my brain just releasing intrusive thoughts. Please tell me if you recommend I should go to the Doctor. By the way my age is only 18 years old if that helps.

I've had insomnia for 2 months,it's not even little rest I get it's absolutely zero rest. It comes few months after I'm diagnosed with schizophrenia. I feel disoriented, distort from reality,my mind couldn't function properly like a walking zombie, it feels better if I'm in home if I'm outside which I dreaded, I feel almost like dying. Don't talk about performing any activities outside its impossible. The more I can't fall asleep the more anxiety I have and it only worsen. Even though I can't go into sleep I try close my eyes and just lie in bed. Side effects of insomnia for me is my vision get blurry

This method has saved me from insanity. After suffering insomnia and terrible anxiety for 6+ months i had to take drastic action and source cannabis, it was the only thing that would get me to sleep, other than Mitazepine, which i'm reluctant to take. I now seem to have cracked my sleep problems. Try this simple step . Only go to bed when you a tired, it is so simply, it's almost ridiculous. I was finding myself going to bed at 10pm telling myself if i went later i would get enough sleep, i'd get agitated and restless, i think most insomniacs are making this huge mistake, forget the clock, following your natural circadian rhythm and sleep drive, and stop trying too hard... Please let me know how this helps you..

I recently watched a video where a sleep specialist spoke of the "changing of body temperature" as the cause of not being able to go back to sleep after awakening... and that getting up, and laying back down some time later helps reduce the amount of heat your body built up during sleep... I'm probably in a small minority in saying this... but I think that "getting up after not being able to fall asleep within 15 minutes" doesn't really resolve anything... There are nights when I've tried this, and it works, and there are other nights where it hasn't worked... Still there are other nights that I insist on staying in bed after more than 30 minutes of not sleeping, and I eventually fall asleep... Some nights I've gotten THE BEST rest after staying awake for over an hour. In my opinion, if you sleep for 3 hours, and then wake up and stay awake for 2 hours, and then you finally fall back asleep, and sleep for another 4 hours, and wake up feeling refreshed, that's WAY BETTER than getting up several times after not being able to fall asleep within 15 minutes... I think that much of insomnia is the simple FEAR OF NOT SLEEPING. There have been times when I fall asleep, and and DREAMING!! I'm in a room with Robin Trower and Mary Tyler Moore, and were trying to figure out which of all the convex and concave mirrors around us are a mirage and which are real by punching our fists through the glass... I mean IF THAT'S NOT FREAKIN' N2, DELTA WAVE, OR REM SLEEP, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.... The reason I say these seemingly unnecessary things is to make a point, which is, EVEN WHEN I'M SO OBVIOUSLY DREAMING (IN A CASE LIKE I JUST DESCRIBED) I'M SO AFFLICTED BY THE PARANOIA OF NOT BEING ABLE TO SLEEP, THAT I STILL THINK I'M EITHER NOT SLEEPING, OR HAVEN'T SLEPT... Sometimes I feel like I was only asleep for 2 minutes, and I turn on my cell phone and see that It's actually 3 hours later!!! At that point I feel a great deal of relief, in realizing that I have in fact slept. I recently built an enclosure around my bed in which I have an air-conditioner to control the temperature... I notice that when I can't fall back asleep immediately, I turn the thermostat down cooler, and shortly afterward I'm able to fall back asleep without having to get up... This coincides with what the sleep specialist said about body temperature... I believe that this the real reason why people believe that getting up when you can't fall back asleep is the resolve... It works, because you're effectively reducing your body temperature by getting out of the warmth of your bed and covers, and lowering your body temperature just enough to allow you to go back to sleep... But people mistakenly believe that getting up out of bed is the key, when the real answer is temperature!! You don't really have to get up... And YOU CAN EVENTUALLY FALL BACK ASLEEP, even if you're awake for 1 or 2 hours.

First of all, let's recognize the fact he looks tired as hell and says he is cured from insomnia, which by the way is not just about not being unable to fall asleep, but also being unable to keep sleeping or having a refreshing sleep. Second of all, it's ALARMING the fact that he says thyroid or adrenal problems never cause insomnia. It makes me want to rip my ears out. You not having insomnia due to those reasons doesn't mean other people can't have it. And, despite your dangerous and uninformative claims, you have a 10/1 like-dislike ratio. I fear for humanity.
