What about fishing a shallow channel close to the shore with a slower current. I’m talking like 3-6 feet of water. Silty glacier water as well.

How's he supposed to prove himself or get better if he doesn't get the chance to. Kids can n will grow your channel not to mention the memories that will never be forgotten. Good or bad. He wasn't tall enough to get over the gunnel in the back of the boat after trying a couple times. He gets plenty of shots at netting, but from standing on the bow.
