I like that to keep me entertained. Those pressures on the steering pump sound low. Could just be a tired pump need rebuild maybe. Curious what the old girl looks like with smaller tires on the front. If it’s crab walking bad might want to look at the torque rods. You’ll get it straightened out tho.
I’ve done some more research and this pumps relief is set at 1000psi and with the tap turned off I’m not seeing anything over 700 so I’m definitely leaning towards the pump being the issue! It does look quite good with the smaller wheels on the steer as it levels the truck out nicely the super singles are quite tall
Gday Jake, I’m thinking the pump is tied getting them pressures, I thought it was meant to be around the 1000/1100psi, I could be completely wrong to, the auction got a good price, I was waiting for you to throw a bid up, top job mate, cheers
Hey Matty I think it is too I found the model number of the pump stamped in the housing and it should have a 1000psi relief valve so it should be able to make 1000psi no worries so I think a new pump is on the cards! I would have loved to but it was really rough a restoration on it would be every bit of 100k to get someone else to do it, even if I had to do it all myself I would have had 100k in it by the time it was done! Maybe one day
That turntable is abit forward for my liking by about 3-4” a rule of thumb I’ve always followed is the turntable pivot should be in the middle of the drives
a sliding turntable base will help with trailers not hitting the wings, back of bunk, guards or chassis rails and sometimes if you need weight over the steering with nhvr/rms
i have a 4670 transtar with twin steering boxs and when i swapped the steering pump that was leaking for a pump i had re sealed it wouldnt turn at idle. i re sealed the original and it would turn. pumps look almost identical one is like 8-10mm longer in the body if i remember right. sorry i dont remember the numbers off the top of my head but they take the same seal kit. looks an identical vickers pump on the 855 cummins
Thanks for the info mate I’m 99% sure that the pump is the problem I think mine is worn out but there is so many variations of these bickers pumps it could be the wrong one, who knows! Cheers
@@dieseldownunder. id pull it apart and just check its not just a vane gummed up and stuck. if thats all it is just seal kit and back in but its probably scored the body but worth a look might save a buck
Those pressures don’t seem right mate, it would be better to test with a flow meter as well but I’d definitely be looking at the pump Jake. Can the Detroit pumps be rebuilt? Or is it easier to just get a new one? Hope it cures it. Those big tyres will be making it harder to turn. Great video as always mate! And I really hope you got that new old girl at the end😍🤙🏻
I need to get myself a flow meter, a decent one is pretty pricey but I’ll pick one up somewhere, I think I can buy a cartridge for it but it depends if the face plates are worn aswell. I wish I could say I brought it but I can buy a lot of parts for the trucks I’ve already got for 50k so had to give it a miss sadly!
@@dieseldownunder. completely understand Jake, was cool to see the auction though👍🏻 can’t wait to see your video on the grey W model, you’ve definitely got enough kenworths to keep you occupied for a while mate 😁🤙🏻
It was a local truck that had been in Geelong for a long time the owner passed away so it went up for auction, I would have loved to have had it but people have a lot deeper pockets than me, it was one of the first Kenworth’s manufactured RH drive specially for Australia
Nope pretty amazing but it’s a rare truck and if you want one you wouldn’t be able to buy one, people pay just as much for the history on the truck as they do the truck itself
I just watched a truck driving video from another you tuber called "Diesel down under" (not capital D), it was definitely a different guy from you. I was confused for a bit. Are you aware of this Jake? Been watching your channel for a while now, keep up the hard yakka' 😢😂 👍
Hey mate I searched him up, was he the guy driving the western star? That’s the only other one I can find hopefully I didn’t steal his name as long as I beat him to it😂 thanks for watching mate I’ll keep at it!
Thanks Harold, I’m gonna have to shout you somthing back one day! I really appreciate it mate, it’s looking like I may need a new steering pump so the money will be going towards a new one I’d say😉
Thanks!
I remember that truck from the late 90s carting potatoes out of boundary bend and unloading in Nar Nar Goon
That’s the one mate! Pretty cool you remember seeing it on the road
steering problems ,got em with a scania tight spots
lovin the content
Thanks mate! My scania turns great thankfully but I rebuilt the whole front end on that truck
She sounds SWEET good one Jake
Thanks mate appreciate it!
Another awesome video young Jake,
Thanks Alan!

But the super singles look awesome

Good point mate that’s another reason why I want to hook it up to a trailer but it can come back no problems at all
a sliding turntable base will help with trailers not hitting the wings, back of bunk, guards or chassis rails and sometimes if you need weight over the steering with nhvr/rms
I’ve been keeping an eye out for a sliding setup as it would make it more versatile

Was that one of your KW’s being auctioned?
Or
One you were bidding on?
It was a local truck that had been in Geelong for a long time the owner passed away so it went up for auction, I would have loved to have had it but people have a lot deeper pockets than me, it was one of the first Kenworth’s manufactured RH drive specially for Australia
That old kenworth wouldn’t have been that much new, they really do hold their value don’t they
Nope pretty amazing but it’s a rare truck and if you want one you wouldn’t be able to buy one, people pay just as much for the history on the truck as they do the truck itself

@@dieseldownunder. Yes that's one, I think he's in a Western Star. Some other driving video's too.
👍
Great Series Just Wondering Did You Win The Auction ??? Cheers.
Haha no, out of my league I’d have to sell the house to buy that😂 I’ll stick with what I’ve got for now!
I was gonna bid $49,500 but the green 'click here to bid' button didn't work! 😆
I was tempted aswell don’t worry😂
I sent you some soda pop money since you don't drink and maybe you can buy some more start ya bastard starting fluid😂
