    You can bathe the leaf springs in a trough of old engine old or even boil them.(however that's probably a bit risk) I have recently smelt the outcome of fire from your neck of the woods. I feel for the wild life.

      Mate, the fires have changed out beatiful coast and ranges for many years to come, its very sad indeed. Where about are you Andrew?

    good stuff! what does the Tannic acid do??

    • @VintageRestorationsAustralia
      @VintageRestorationsAustralia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When applied to iron, tannic acid reacts with the iron ions to form ferric tannate (a protective chemical barrier). Its chemically bonded to the surface so is a useful 'rust convertor'

      @@VintageRestorationsAustralia fab thanks, learn something new everyday!!

      @@TheRetroSeries2a Ha yes, learning is a good thing :-). Phosphoric acid based rust convertors work in a similar way but it's got a grey finish (I prefer the blue black finish of tannic based convertor). Our next episode includes making up your own rust convertor (as opposed to the expensive store bought stuff).

    You're making it look too easy. Where is all the swearing, throwing tools, cuts and blood?
