You can bathe the leaf springs in a trough of old engine old or even boil them.(however that's probably a bit risk) I have recently smelt the outcome of fire from your neck of the woods. I feel for the wild life.
When applied to iron, tannic acid reacts with the iron ions to form ferric tannate (a protective chemical barrier). Its chemically bonded to the surface so is a useful 'rust convertor'

Phosphoric acid based rust convertors work in a similar way but it's got a grey finish (I prefer the blue black finish of tannic based convertor). Our next episode includes making up your own rust convertor (as opposed to the expensive store bought stuff).
i fitted two driving heads out of..rover 90 cars to my LR. they are a fare bit higher geared than the. ariginal..ones best thing i ever did better than fairy odrive you can hear the radio lol cheers
