Bristol was my home town from 1957 thru 1969. Short return time in 1970 / 71. Been in many other states since, large and small towns/cities too. Thinking serious about returning to Tennessee, who knows one that dream may come true. I miss the rolling hills, mountains, lakes and rivers, and four seasons. And, would like to get a plate of those Blue Circle Drive’in Hamburgers again. I highly recommend Bristol, TN. Lots to be proud about.
Just moved here. Luv it here. Moved up from florida! Wow, had no idea about hard rock coming here! That's big news. We have one in south florida it's huge. Alot of job opportunities... Didn't know about sales tax diff in VA. That's awesome. Very informative!
Hi Heidi, I am in Florida now (West Palm Beach) and I want to move to Bristol also. Was there a big shock in the change. How is the job market over there? I am a property manager. Looking for something in that field.
I'm from palm beach, moved to greeneville tn to assist my father..bristol has my eye and my girl too...we're lovers and decided on bristol she's from Syracuse NY lol We met in the middle literally it's beautiful place...
Thanks for this. While I enjoy living in East Texas - an area with a very similar culture (and the other Eastman plant) - my family and I love coming to visit a few times each year. I have lived away from Bristol for my entire adult life, and that has caused me to appreciate, more with each passing day, the multiple beauties of my Hometown. To see a video like this just warms my heart and allows me to get back there for a few, if only virtually...so, again, thank you.
Scott, such an informative video. Thank you. We are considering relocating. It’s a really big decision, so we are taking our time and making sure this is the move. Will keep in touch.
Glad it was helpful! Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help you make your decision. Recently we've had buyers from Connecticut, NY State, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Oregon. I don't know where you're coming from but you'd be in good company.
@@Taking_Back_Thyme in my opinion people want to be closer to the big city (Nashville). Northeast TN just isn't that well known. Property prices have really skyrocketed in that part of the state too.
Live in Florida now and just like he said the grass isn’t always greener! We are currently in the process of moving back! Florida is nice and all but with the traffic and tourists it makes it horrible!
Intristing city! I’ve thought about maybe retiring in bristol. I may have to airbnb first or motel an extended stay to see if i really like it. Im sure the skeeters and ticks are ruff. Prolly only con.
Sounds nice. Looking in retirement to maybe move, and it sounds like a nice quiet destination with low taxes and I like the idea of little traffic, I suppose outside of the big events at the raceway.
As someone with a family looking to potentially move from NYC to TN, which of the tri cities would you recommend and why? They all seem to have a lot to offer based on your videos but I’m not sure how they compare. Was originally looking at Johnson City but know little about any of the tri cities. Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.
I think you won't go wrong in any of the cities, but it depends on what's most important to you. Each town has its own vibe. Good schools are available in each city, so that probably won't make the difference. Many people make an exploratory trip & can decide in a couple of days of driving around and with some help from us. @@TNVAHomeTeam it may be an impossible ask, but, I love camping, hunting, fishing, outdoors… the wife prefers commerce and modern accommodations 🤣 we are both masters degrees in education. @@andrewfossatti4937 My best guess is that Johnson City is right up your alley. With the university, being the largest of the cities, but close to everything outdoors, I think you'd it.
Are there hunting game opportunities in Bristol, can you bring your own canoe in the lakes for fishing, and is there a public water spring to fill up bottles and such in Bristol?
What is going on with the Bristol TN garbage dump? We has brunch with friends at Vivian's Table, great time, the waitress was updating us, so looking but that sounds like a headache and health concern right now. Other than that loved Bristol! Love the video and information! Thank you!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. I really do love my hometown. The dump is a work in progress. The smell in certain pockets within the area can be very strong at times. The city of Bristol VA actually owns and operates the landfill and is under pressure from the city of Bristol TN among other groups to stop the smell. The TN side of town hired a toxicologist which basically said that the odor should cause no long term effects. However to those near the area that are impacted, they still suffer a loss in their quality of life as I see it. A lot of money has been spent on consultants & contractors & I fully expect much more investment is going to be required before everything is said and done.
HI! Thanks for posting. I am looking at different towns in TN to move with my daughter. I would like for her to have a normal high school experience in quiet, safe town. I visited the area and had an interview with a counselor at TN High School and was very impressed. I can't find unbiased information about the crime rate in Bristol. Do you have any information? Also, what is happening with the landfill issue? The counselor mentioned it, and as we drove around, there were many anti-landfill signs in the yard. Many thanks.
I’ll look up that info on crime and get you a link. There’s a couple of articles I’ll get you on the landfill also. The smell is sporadic and in certain areas of the town in particular. Kim and I absolutely love it here.

Just stay away from the housing complexes on both side. The Rice Terrace and Johnson Court area along Euclid Ave area the worst. The strange thing about Bristol is how close the nice neighborhood is to the bad ones. One street over you can go from meth to mansion. That being said TN side is the better side to live on.
Hi .. we are researching TN now to relocate. We love the mountains and Bristol looks like it has beautiful views of the mountains .. we want to buy land and put a house on it what are you opinions on the land prices ?
While i agree with you about the people and the area i still had to move away i just couldn't live with very very few jobs and what few they ha were minimum wage and no job security its great if your retired and living on a budget but that's about it i lived there for most of my adult life .
We are in the same situation, we moved away out west and are looking to come back. We are trying to figure out if we want to come to Bristol or JC to settle back down. Honestly in my years of living in NE TN I only ever went to Bristol to see the races. What area have you seen the most growth in and will growth continue in your opinion from being a native?
That's a tough question. With the casino/hotel coming to Bristol, VA I have to believe that we're going to see some related growth to the area. New housing growth is concentrated in JC, Kingsport, and Jonesboro with a couple of developments going in Piney Flats. I talked to a DR Horton agent a couple of months ago & there's a development planned for Bristol in the near future. JC has always been the biggest & had the younger vibe because of ETSU. Kingsport seems to remain more of a manufacturing town overall. And Bristol slowly and steadily grows, but it really hasn't had a sense of direction I can see. The Pinnacle shopping area went in several years ago & they built up exits 5 and 7 into Bristol, VA, and re-did downtown, but besides that I can't say that Bristol has changed all that much. Personally I wasn't looking for growth when I moved back. I was in Chattanooga about 20 years & a lot of that growth really brought parts of the area down. Hope you make the move!

Land is more plentiful than homes for sure so we haven't seen a huge run up in prices. Still pretty reasonable.

I think they're worse in FL, AL, and GA personally. If you're near a standing body of water they'll be around for sure though.
