Can you speak to racism in the state? (I have a mixed race family)
VA.could probably split again culturely
Been coming to Tn for 35 yrs. Seen some big changes in those years. TN is becoming unaffordable in many ways. Home, utilities, insurance, home taxes. Sales taxes on expensive items is crazy high. Eating out has gotten crazy as well. If you need to do any repairs forget it. New homes forget it!!! 315.00 square foot. Nothing lower. All built by immigrants. Just saying. Heating and cooling only last about 10 years. At least 7500.00 to replace it. You have to include that into your expenses. Everything is going through the roof right now!!!!!! ITS getting to expensive to live in KNOXVILLE. TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE
First, the most important thing to me is the PEOPLE. I heard the people there are great in accepting people from out of state. I am a country girl and I love the idea of having lots of land around the house I move into. Secondly, I am retired & need an affordable place to live. Third, I have two Border Colies that are like my children; I need a fenced in yard for them. I do not want to be near a busy highway or mountain roads and prefer to be next to neighbors that have chickens, goats, roosters, donkeys and horses and all what wildlife that makes beautiful music in the morning. I love four seasons. I now live 30 minutes from grocery stores, home depot, samsclub, tractor supply and all the necessary stores. I only go to town once a week & that's fine with me.
The Link to the List of Active Listings doesn't Work.
Thanks for letting me know. I'll get that changed now.
I wonder if he's still glad?
100%
I’m from Virginia, your county area. It can be a little expensive sometimes but it is a beautiful place to live. I moved to LA in 2005 my girlfriend and I are looking at leaving here and relocating. Do you want to talk about cost of living in Los Angeles is ridiculous. But because of the exit is from places like California I’ve seen the home prices in Tennessee skyrocket. Especially around the Nashville area and reality any of the major cities for me Virginia isn’t that expensive as it has so much to offer for daily life. It’s a great place to raise a family. Weatherwise, we always joke if you don’t like the weather wait five minutes. And it can rain a bit and it gets pretty cold. But my area York County is too close to the water so the average temperature is just a little too high for snow. You go up to Williamsburg area, most of that area will start to get a little bit of snow. It’s not saying where I grew up we didn’t get snow. We had about 8 inches or so in 2003 or 2004 right before I moved To California. But our snow only lasts a few days as well before it’s almost gone.
What about diversity? I have an Asian friend (Korean, actually) who could think about moving to TN or AL (Huntsville) but their concern is being among such a dominantly white population.
I'd say that their odds of having an issue are low. The population isn't all that diverse for sure, but most people are very kind and friendly.
@@TNVAHomeTeam Thanks … I agree.
Watch out people from CA are turning N.C. blue 😮
Can you make a detailed video on Columbia Maury
I miss my home in Sarasota Worked at SMH 30 yrs Poor healthcare is my only complaint

Are you a real estate agent?
This is my dream retirement destination
Not that house for that price! Get real! How many acres ! Would have to build a house!!!!!!
That's what happens when californians & northerners move uninvited to the South.
Thank you for these videos. My wife and I are looking to get out of California like many of the people I've seen comment here. We are God loving folks, who love the idea of a slower paced, friendly atmosphere. I appreciate that you cover so much about life there in NE Tennessee.
Lived there almost 10 years. Great area to live,!
Thanks Scott, very informative, great video 👍
We just visited Pigeon Forge about a month ago. Even though it's a tourist area, the people are definitely more friendly than here in Indianapolis! I really enjoyed it!😊
Gate City Virginia is next door to Kingsport Tennessee and it's a lot cheaper than East Tennessee. The homes are cheaper and you can get a lot of acres with some of them.
A house with a storm door? FINALLY!! LOL The little things we home owners figure out when we have expensive wood entry doors? Just wondering, how far down do they have to drill to hit water when dealing with these mountain homes? This house is absolutely beautiful!! What is the big box in the bathroom? Just a couple things I'd do to update; but love it!
My family is looking for 5 plus acres with possibility of multiple homes on property maybe near some water. Is that possible at this price range?
My family is pretty liberal. Will we potentially be unwelcome?
I'd be very surprised. The majority of the people here tend to be "polite" in many ways and unless you start a political discussion, its likely you won't know someone's affiliation.
@TNVAHomeTeam thank you. I get along with most people. 73% seems extreme though! Maybe I just won't put a Harris/Walz sign on my lawn. Appreciate the insight. Great video. Have a really great day!
The cons are all related to the federal government's footprint in Northern Virginia, which has attracted hundreds of thousands of government "employees" who make a ton of money, produce nothing of value, drive up costs, and have ruined state politics. The state turned blue, in other words. The pros are myriad. Beautiful mountains and beaches and farmland. Rich history. Great food and great people, generally.
I learned a long time ago ,a saying when in Rome do as the Roman's do ,DO NOT TRY TO CHANGE THINGS if one doesn't like the rules the can leave.
I moved from Massachusetts to Kingsport. Never go back to mass.
NE Tennessee sounds more like a fit to me.
How are the medical facilities, hospitals, clinics, etc???
Well done and informative video. I am a native of the Chattanooga area and moved away in 1996. I don't think I would ever go back for one reason...the fascist state of the government as the ultraconservatives have poisoned the heart of this once great southern state.
I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.
I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

Nah I Can't say I can relate, VICTORIA CARMEN SANTAELLA charge is one-off and pretty reasonable when compared to what I benefit in returns.
You did not mention the price of rentals in Johnson City?
Your video was a true blessing, can't wait to see the pros and cons of Tennessee my other choice to live.
How come we are the only state where the polls show a majority of people polled are supporting Trump? Are we nuts? It's shameful - trying to explain to people how we support this traitor. COMON! It's bad enough that we're like the least educated state, the most poverty stricken and have the fattest population. We need to elevate Tennessee out of the "trailer trash" category and move to the woods again and find our independence. What? Does Fox News govern us?
I have worked as a travel electrician for the past few years and Chattanooga to me is paradise. I’m from MN, but I love the outdoor sports of kayaking, hiking, camping, and motorcycling. Chattanooga is wonderfully situated and just such a beautiful city. I understand there are problems, and perhaps I’ll struggle initially, but it truly is my idea of paradise and I hope that even though I’ll be a transplant, I hope I can try to make it a little bit better.
Having no income tax and funding the government with a sales tax really is the best way to do it. That’s not a con imo
I was born in Bristol, TN and after living in SW VA for 25 years, I was very glad to return to the Tri-Cities area in 2018 (Piney Flats). I am glad to see that you note and promote our friendliness, slower pace, and cheerful community focus. To the newcomers, you will love it, so welcome home to north eastern Tennessee!
After posting my comment, I heard your name! I think we were in college together in our younger days! Lol.

We drive through here last week looking at a home for sale and the traffic in this town is a nightmare. So much traffic so many red lights and so built up.
Your volume is bad can't hear what you're saying
Just stay out of Memphis.
Thank you Scott 🙂
You did a pretty good job defining Virginia but you did not spend time on the great educational opportunities and the huge variety of arts , music and foods available in Virginia. Virginia is the state with the broadest range of history in the county from first settlement to greats number of Civil War sites to the most American Presidents of any state. It provides a taste of all 4 beautiful seasons without extremes. You can run to the mountains or the beach if it too hot. Good job but Virginia is so much more. You get a very good standard of living for your taxes in the form of good school, roads, government and amenities. That stuffs not free.
I'm from Norfolk VA .. i recently went to the holston damn.. such a beautiful view that brought a tear from my eye I've never had that happen before but let me tell you its a memory i pray i can remember for the rest of my days
The regressive taxes are almost 10% on everything.
Thanks for the intel my guy 👍
All the people from CA will dilute your culture. Encouraging them to move there is a mistake.
Sounds good to this Floridian too!!! The humidity and Hurricanes have gotten to me, and I miss the smaller hometown feel that I left behind in Idaho 9 years ago, but we love it out east, so we might need to move north to Tennessee. Btw, I miss the friendly people too, so I look forward to being someplace that doesn’t think friendliness is strange~My fiancé and I will find some time soon to check out Tennessee as a possible place to live out our retirement years🤩
Did you say 599k. That is horrifically overpriced. Florida is cheaper
