    I feel your pain my friend. Hate doing jobs twice and learning the hard way. I did a pump in an '09 half ton Chevy the other day and my goodness. Looked it up on the NAPA Prolink and there was a listing of about 7 different pumps. Decided I better do it by the VIN and looked up an OE one to get a good number to cross. The late model stuff seems to get harder to do just using year make and model. Keep up the good work! And remember... some times we do it nice cuz we do it twice!

    My gauge has been off since my brother and I replaced my pump 5 years ago. I assumed the float wasn't working properly. Too much of a hassle to take the bed of my Chevy pickup off again, so I just learned to live with it and rely on my trip odometer for monitoring my fuel. I'll have to remember this video if/when I decide to address it. Thanks for the explanation!

      I just replaced the fuel pump in my Holden Barina. The float was starting to go bad before the the pump failed. My pump and float are separate parts and I only replaced the pump. The original float is still in there. Today I filled the tank at the petrol station and the guage reads 1/2 full. I reset my Trip Meter to zero at the petrol station and I know my car will do at least 500km on a full tank of premium 95 fuel . Less on 91. Don't know whether I can be bothered fixing it . It's worth probably carrying a full Jerry Can of fuel in the car in case I forget to reset trip Meter and run out of fuel from inaccurate reading. Something to think about

      So what your saying is - it won’t affect anything BUT the gauge? So let’s say I have a road trip coming up and no time to replace it - I’ll be okay? Just need to document gas usuals per mile?

    • @butterisawesome6969
      @butterisawesome6969 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brandi.Nicole yup as long as it's running and sounding like a normal engine without any acceleration issues then it should be fine. There could be a possibility if it's the wrong pump then it won't be giving enough fuel pressure or maybe even too much fuel pressure but if the engine starts up and sounds normal then I say there isn't a big problem. (I AM NO WHERE NEAR BEING A MECHANIC OR HAVING EXPIERENCE)

    I had the fuel sending unit to go bad on my 97 Pontiac Grand Prix. I order a new sending unit for it. The new one looked the same but had a slightly larger electrical connector on it. I really wonted to get the job done and did not want to take the time of sending the new on back so I put the old plug connector on the new sending unit, I had the same problem a wrong reading on the gas gauge. To make a long story short the new one measure out different ohms than the old one and the small fingers was worn off the old one. I was able to take the fingers off of the new one and put them on the old one. Now everything works and reads fine and I saved a ton of money.

    I'm glad I saw your video prior to ordering a pump sending unit. I have the same issue on a 2003 lincoln navigator. Where It says a 1/4 tank dashboard gauge and 140 miles to empty info display. All this at fixing the micro relay pump relay and changing fuel filter at 112k miles after engine stalls with no code. I believe the resistance of the sender from your video for mine has gone bad too. Until I replaced the parts. Never paid attention to it and I'm seeing fluctuating numbers in the info display. Car all in green monitors and drives flawlessly. I tried resetting for 10 min by disconnecting battery for full reset on vehicle. After reconnecting and driving all monitors green and still display on miles to empty fluctuating. Any other ideas for fixing or resets? Care to comment? Thanks

    I just did this on a 2007 Chevy Uplander. Except instead of getting the year wrong, I got the wheel base wrong. Pump works great and the vehicle runs properly, but the gauge reads Empty with a full tank. I'd rather not buy another pump so, I'm going to attempt to manipulate the sensor arm/floater in a way that it might work the right way. Can this actually be done? Anyone ever have to deal with this? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks. Great video by the way.

    just replaced the fuel sending unit, stupid me ordered a flex fuel unit instead of the regular gas one, had to rewire the harness, however when replacing it, it only turns on and pumps but won't prime, question is, even though it's a flex fuel one (wrong one) should it not work? Never had to go by the vin buying parts from the auto parts store.Only when you have to get them from the dealer.Another thing is don't ever buy any aftermarket fuel pump,you will do the job over and over again.Airtex is well known for high failure rates and says installer error which is not true.Delphi and AC Delco only for GMs.The fuel pumps for the 1997 to 2001 GM trucks come with an updated plug in which Delphi does this.You cut the old connector off and replace it with the updated connector.

    On some after market fuel pump the float lever is backwards. When you install it, it Will mark. "E" empty on the fuel gauge, if your tank is full, but as your drive and burn gas the needle in your fuel gauge will start moving to the "F" full. How do you fix the problem??? Some people reverse the fuel lever. That might help solve the problem.

      Before you jump to conclusions and spend more money needlessly, confirm the amount of fuel in the tank. I would suggest siphoning all the fuel out, measure it, put it back in, then fill the tank, add the two together and you will know the actual capacity. The gauge should then register full. If not there could have been an error with the install of the new pump.
