I never took this as a serious knife but figured it was a decent thing to have in my truck as a cheap tool. I had an interview for a promotion at work and about an hour before the interview the zipper on my suit pants gave out and my fly was wide open. I went to my truck, got the sewing kit out of the handle of this knife, and stitched the zipper shut. I got the promotion. Turns out it was the best $8 I have ever spent.

I got a knife much like that for Christmas when I was 13 years old. Am 27 now and I still have it. Used the saw back to cut branches and the blade to hack a lot of things. Despite the "stigma" of knives like those that don't have the full tang construction breaking or coming lose overall mine is still strong and I got to say great considering what you paid for.

When I first moved to Montana in 2010 I bought this knife as a last minute purchase before going for a drive and hike in the Crazy mtns in spring. It was the first time in my life I slid off the road into a ditch and couldn't get out. I was stuck and it was around a 3 mile hike to a couple cabins we saw driving up hiking back was plan C if I couldn't get free before dark and temperature drop. Because of this knife I was able to build a ramp that allowed me to rock back, out of the ditch and drive the car in reverse down to the cabins where there was enough room to turn around. Best cheap knife I ever bought.

  • @TheBritishPatriot

That's a pretty decent knife, one like that would probably cost £30-50 here in the UK, the equivalent of 8 bucks would get you a small 2 inch pocket knife, not that you'd be able to carry either of them around with you since we live in a nanny/police state where criminals have guns and citizens can't even buy pepper spray.

My daughter and I are full-time overlanders/backpackers/bushcrafters. She got one of these as a stocking stuffer 2 Christmases ago and I'll be blunt and honest. Damn thing is straight amazing! It has chopped and sawed branches, batoned wood, shaved wood for feathers, cut rope, chopped food, basically done everything you could ask of a large knife...and it still looks new! I'll take 10 of these before I'd ever buy a high priced survival knife!!!

On another note I think a better or more entertaining test would have been to affix the blade to a handle using items from inside the handle, kill a bear with it, and use the animal parts to make a precision blade to whittle something with.

I bought this knife for kicks a while back and used it for the first time last week. Without putting any edge on it I was able to break down straight grain wood into kindling with batoning and gravity slam method. It cut off small limbs in one swing, and hack a tip into a piece of wood about the same size as the peg he used. The saw teeth are pretty sharp and worked fine for what it is. For $10 I was actually pretty impressed!!

These are actually not bad knives. But all the things that he said are true they are very heavy and not very easy to use for fine work.
The big failure point which he also mentioned was that the Tang is not very deep into the handle. I took one of these out and beat the love and hell out of it batoning a bunch of wood..
There is a set screw that holds the Tang into the handle that will work loose and the blade can come out. What I ended up doing was cleaning the inside and the Tang with some brake parts cleaner getting it completely dry and free of oil, then I used some two-part epoxy put the two pieces together and then threaded the retaining set screw in with some thread locker. This will mean it can never come back apart again but I don't really see why you would want it to come back apart ever again and an eight dollars it doesn't really matter.
One thing that's kind of surprising is that's actually a stainless steel blade and even after beating the hell out of it I didn't find the edge folding over or any significant problems with the steel of the blade. That was the most surprising thing to me.

Being in "The Teams" for 20 years, every knife maker was making their knife "used by Navy SEALs" - lol - we called them the "SEAL knife of the month". Usually, I just carried a US Divers heavy stainless steel "dive club". Thing was a beast, but, very tough to sharpen. Also carried a good steel K-Bar, full tang for prying.
The issue is also getting a good pouch on the knife sheath to carry a ferro-rod and multi-tool, along with a garbage bag rolled up so that if all your kit was dumped, you still had a few basics. The late Ron Hood had a nice sheath "kit". Always have a small folder on your person as well like a Spyderco for one-handed use. Great videos - picked some stuff up for my "home improvements". Especially loved that video on the Harbor freight hatchet - followed your guide on that, and it is great! Use it next to my wood splitter for gnarly elm, etc. GOD Bless

I also almost never use any of the other tools on it. But for overall shear use i love the x shear or one shear brand. Even the cheap ones have their place.

I remember as a kid being infatuated with the Rambo knife...I stockpiled proofs of purchase and scraped together the $10 for shipping and handling required for an "official, genuine" Rambo knife...after what seemed like years of waiting it showed up at the PO Box. I was beyond excited, imagining the adventures I would partake in with my trusty survival knife. I think it lasted about 3 minutes before the pot metal handle separated from the blade rendering me heartbroken but wiser.

I have had mine since 2016 it's for 1 thing and 1 thing only and I'm sure you know what that is. If you go camping bring a hatchet and knives and a sword or machete. Btw only weak men would refer to it as a rat tail knife lol if you had power in those arms you would not call it anything more than what it is made for and that's flesh.

I thought that knife looked familiar! My dad bought one for me when I was in my teens, more for show than actual use (I had much better knives) and I broke it in a few days. Snapped it right at the tang because it doesn't go all the way through the handle (So you can store useless things!). I still have the handle around somewhere too, always liked the knurled grip and that I could still store things in it :D

I bought this knife, permanent threadlocker, 2 part epoxy, a sharpening stone, and paracord all from HF. Coat the Allen screw in the threadlocker and apply the epoxy all inside where the tang meets the handle. Then wrap the handle with paracord. Once I did these mods it’s been really sturdy and I’ve had zero issues so far. I take it with me when I go camping. All this for under $15. Why not?
