Also, this episode is intentionally less "edited", just as an experiment. I often have to dedicate extra hours of time to finding things to put on screen while I'm talking, and I just wanted to see how people feel without it being there. Ranked is the most time consuming series I have (not complaining, I enjoy it) and I'm just looking for ways to make it a little bit easier to produce, but still keeping it enjoyable for everyone watching.

The thing about the monkeys is I’m only half sure how I’d rank them. I know that TBHQ and SIAS are my least favorite, AM and WPSIAM I hold to the same regards in the middle, and that Humbug and FWN are by far my favorites. So your list was kinda spot on!

They'll never will, they change their music constantly, maybe the next album will have more guitars, but Humbug was a step in their evolvment, they will probably not gonna go back to
I felt the same way about Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino initially, but as months have passed, I've come to appreciate that album as their most mature and nuanced effort to date.
José Pablo C. Sánchez I agree. I feel like AM kinda felt forced but now w tranquility they feel more authentic again. Def not their best album in terms of sound and everything but it doesn’t suck. I really love the maturity of it and how they kinda look back at everything.
I thought it was their worst on release and now I personally find it slightly stronger than favourite worst nightmare, like those top spots are fluctuating
it’s a sexy album. Atm, I love it more than Humbug. TBH&C ages like fine wine.

Whenever I listen to my 3 favorites (humbug, wpsiatwin and favorite worst nightmare) I can never pick a favorite song cause as soon as the next song plays I’m like oh yeah I love this one this my favorite

AM is by far their most commercially successful album but Favorite worst nightmare is my personal no.1

It's clear you love this band, and rightfully so. The passion with which you speak when describing the albums is evident, but it's just because it's such an amazing, amazing band. I would have probably ranked them SIAS-AM-TBHC-Humbug-FWN-Debut from less good to best, as I guess first album bias applies to me, although I stand by the claim that 505 is one of the best songs of all time.

Danilo Mendonça probably another piano focused album but turner will have more experience with the instrument by then. I’m hoping something more catchy and groovy.

I'm thinking a mix between Tranquility Base and Humbug.
I think they came too far out of left field with tranquility base and turner knows it so its gonna return to center with a humbug esque album that i think will only be okay but then for their 8th album theyll release a masterpiece

after all of these years of living on this earth I have never found a band or artist that I find so hard to rank. they are the definition of "different but just as good". maybe I'm biased but they are so perfect in every way and truly think they are one of the best bands to ever exist

i used to start loving this record a bit ago but songs like Knee Socks and No. 1 Party Anthem are starting to sound stale to me. Love every single (other than One For The Road) and can admit that the finale of I Wanna Be Yours is fantastic.
5. Suck it and See
i can only listen to certain songs on this album when playing the full album. songs like She’s Thunderstorms, All My Own Stunts and That’s Where You’re Wrong don’t hold up on their own in my opinion but i’m often grooving to them when i’m listening to the full album. The album has fantastic cuts like Brick by Brick and Library Pictures which easily make it into my top 10 with Piledriver Waltz being an honorable mention.
4. Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino
PERFECTION for the comeback album. super unexpected and i love every second of it. Songs like The Ultracheese, Golden Trunks, One Point Perspective, and American Sports can easily make it into my top 10 with other songs like The World’s First Ever Monster struck Front Flip, She Looks Like Fun, and Four Out Of Five being flawless efforts by the monkeys. And might i mention that The Ultracheese is undeniably my favorite album closer by the monkeys.
3. Humbug
This is the album i comeback to the most because i’ve always wanted to get into Fire and the Thud and The Jeweler’s Hands without listening to the full album and it just hasn’t happened. My favorite moments have got to be Cornerstone which definitely makes my top 3, Pretty Visitors which is climbing up the rankings as of right now, and Secret Door which is an underrated GEM
2. Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not
My, oh my what a debut, i immediately got hooked with She Looks Good On The Dance Floor which resulted in the love for songs like Fake Tales of San Francisco, The View From the Afternoon and Mardy Bum. The closer A Certain Romance had me hooked and wanting to listen to more and more, it’s a flawless song with an almost flawless album following behind it.
1. Favourite Worst Nightmare
I love EVERY song on this album, and it might seem ironic that 505 is my least favorite, close with Only Ones Who Know. This House is a Circus is my favorite monkeys song with Balaclava a close second. The singles on this album are powerful and fill you with so much energy while the slow burners like Only Ones Who Know will remind you of someone you love/used to love, the whole album and the album order is perfect and i love it to death.

We don't have the same opinion on the rankings but yes well done, 505 is the worst.
Only reason why I rank the debut over Favourite: I love to listen both albums entirely, but whereas I simply cannot skip a song in the first one, I always end up skipping This house is a circus. No idea why as what makes me love these albums is the energy and raw emotion, that song doesn't make me feel too much but it's not a bad song by any means. Favourite song is From the ritz ;)

Suck It And See is really underrated by most of the fans. At least it's should be 3 - 4 place. It's definitely better than AM and Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.

This is exactly how I would rank them. I thought that after listening to TBH+C a few times, it might pass up Suck It And See, but it hasn't yet. I definitely don't think they have a bad album though. I think Humbug is very underrated, but FWN is just perfect to me.

Love this ranking. FWN is my favourite Arctic Monkeys album too. I wouldve put TBH&C above SIAS and AM and their debut at 2nd place. All of these albums that the band have released so far have shown the variety of styles that the band has encompassed.
i listen to am and love them because of the bassy rock sound that AM has the messy loud sound of whatever people say I am and the indie rock kinda feel that favourite worse nightmare and the other albums have. idk I still absolutely love them but tranquility isn't my thing and I don't really relate to it as much which is sad oof

I feel like AM and Tranquility Base took a lot of flak because the fan base refused to accept that they were evolving past their early sound but after Tranquility Base it seems like we've finally weeded out the closed minded fans and now have a supportive community who agrees that all their albums are awesome despite the changing sound.

My list would go: 1. Favourite Worst Nightmare (one of the best albums of all time) 2. Suck It And See 3. AM 4. Humbug 5. Tranquility Base 6. WPSIATWIN (this will piss off many people and idk myself what my issue is with their debut but I just listen to it the least. I totally love it just like the rest of them anyway)
So yesterday I randomly listened to do i wanna know after some time, I never really paid attention to the song I just liked the rhythm but yesterday it just hit me like a truck and decided to listen to the whole AM project. I am a hip hop head and I don't listen to a lot of music outside of hip hop but I decided to check it out and boy i am in love with this band. Alex turner's lyrics are just so great at painting a picture and the production is amazing all throughout the album. I didn't think a single song was below average and I absolutely adore like 9 or 10 songs from this album. So I came in this video and you tell me that it's not even in the top 3 in their discography? What have I got myself into! Really excited to dive into their discography rn

1. Suck It And See: favorite album, I love this album, all songs have a meaning and tunning that I fell in love. The drums, guitar, lyrics and voice are amazing.Just listen Suck It And See intro or Black Treacle and Thats Where You're Wrong and you will love the intro and the rest of the songs. Love and Rock album
2. AM: another great album, cool songs. Its a sexy album. also have love songs like No1 Party Anthem and Mad Sounds. Dont know why is hated just because its comercial, thats such a silly argument.
3. Whatever People Say Im Thats What Im Not: this is where all begins. Guitar and lyrics are fantastic. Rock and roll album
4. Favourite Worst Nightmare: just as fantastic as the first album. Has a mix between the first and more alternative. Mixed album. Fluorescent Adolescent the beautiful one.
5. Humbug. Great album, its slow and more passive. But has great tunnings. The dark album. Drums, guitar and bass sounds amazing. Dont forget lyrics from Cornerstone.
6.Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino: Great album, its a mix between humbug and 70 rock. Chill and sweet. Drums dont sounds as much as others albums but it sounds cool and wise. Piano is a good adding. The 70s classic rock album.

Funny that Am and suck it and see are my 1 and 2 albums, I just love those particular styles like the arena rock and throwback pop rock, respectively. I feel with the monkeys they have a different style on each album so usually it's really personal preference

This might be out of jurisdiction, man, but since I don't have a Twitter account, I saw that you had said Kyle Pavone has died recently. I started to get invested in We Came As Romans months later after they dropped "Cold Like War". They seemed like a badass metalcore/post-hardcore band. Kyle sounded great on clean vocals. Don't know what We Came As Romans would do without him. It's like Linkin Park all over again. I couldn't write on Twitter so I just had to say this right here. R.I.P. Kyle Pavone.
great review. I love all their stuff but HUMBUG is most definitely my favorite followed by SUCK IT AND SEE. I need to reconsider the other ones but Tranquility Hotel is my least favorite without a doubt. I loved the format of the podcast Jon and always appreciate your "ranked" ones. And once again I know you've heard ELBOW before but I would love your take on them considering you really seem to favor UK bands. I really loved your ranking of MUSE, another great band from over the pond. Keep up the fantastic work.

Suck it and see must be my favourite bc it really changed my music taste. It made me fall in love with the Arctic Monkeys, but also got me into the whole indie/alternative rock scene. Little update: i got it on vinly for my 18th birthday, i couldn't be happier!!

And trust me, it was hard for me to pick between AM and FWN. Especially since I love every Arctic Monkeys album. This is another great ranked video!
My favourite albums are Humbug and AM. AM is perfect album for me, and Humbug has an unique atmosphere of sadness and anxiety. FWN is very good too, it's very lively, then WPSIATWAN, SIAS(very romantic melodies) and THBC(just not my favourite style). But actually in every album there are good songs)))
Please please listen to the album Coup de Grace by Miles Kane. He’s honestly one of the most underrated artists of the last 10 years and his work with Alex Turner as part of The Last Shadow Puppets is amazing
In my opinion tranquillity base should be a bit higher on the list not only is the sound somehow both vintage and futerous if that makes sense, I think it is so lyricly great: it has humour and is so smart, but then there is a line on science fiction "to clever for it's own good" and I think maybe that's just what is is. Or I just have weird taste in music

Ok I figured TBH+C was gonna be last.... not that it's bad by any means but it's definitely their hardest to get into. Also you ranked them pretty much the same as I would have - although I think I wouldn't have been able to organize them into the top 3. (I probably would have put Humbug but I think I'm biased)
Although I don’t like AM as much now , i am appreciative that it brought me to all their other songs
People outside of the UK don't realise how massive Whatever People Say I Am was in the UK. It's arguably more well-known than AM here.
Personally Humbug is my favorite album, I shied away from it at first when I got into the Monkeys, but later on understood how foolish I was, everything about it is brilliant, including the aesthetics . That album and FWN deserve to share the top spep of the podium. hopefully more of that will come in the future

I like how different this list is, with the usual top 2 being 4th and 3rd. I also fully agree with FWN at No.1, my favourite too
You should rank the B-sides. The Monkeys have some truly fantastic songs hidden away (Blonde-O-sonic Shimmer Trap, Frigh Lined Dining Room, Stop the World, I Wanna get off with You, Evil Twin, etc)

5- favourite worst nightmare- it’s grown on me in recent years and is a great album
4- suck it and see- reckless serenade is one of the most underrated songs ever made by the monkeys
3- whatever people say I am- I loved it when I was 16 I still love it now
2- humbug- full moon music, my propellor, cornerstone, secret door are the standouts and pretty visitor
1- AM- the first 6 or so tracks are high energy awesome, then it gets slow and then it becomes something else.....I genuinely think it’s a masterpiece

I think WPSTWIN has stronger songs but I prefer FWN as a whole even though that makes no sense. Anyway, for the time being, FWN clinches the top spot but it may change.
6. TBH+C. 3/5, have to be in the right mind for these songs due to the moodier sound. Lyrically, as always from Alex, genius and its nice to see him tackling new issues compared to the previous releases. Four out of five, title track and one point perspective and I particularly love the verse about 'video call with god'.
5. Suck it and see. 4/5, for a long time I had this above humbug but I think a lack of musical variety has put it down a spot (spoilers). Still a great album and lyrically perhaps one of their most metaphoric, laced with double entendre. Piledriver Waltz remains one of the best songs ever. Also black treacle is underrated.
4. Humbug (surprise). 4/5, for me, an album filled with some amazing songs (cornerstone, dance little liar, secret door) but put along with some duds that I find boring from a melodic viewpoint (potion approaching, fire in the thud). Nonetheless, a very solid album. Surprising to see how many people have commented with this so high as it seems like in the UK, its very overlooked as most people over here place so much attention on the first two albums. Nice to see its being appreciated.
3. AM. 4.5/5, easy to see why loyal fans get frustrated due to its undeniable success. However, it definitely deserved the success it achieved, not necessarily being their strongest album, but the fact the album almost has this cool rock persona which turner embellished so charismatically. Obviously its full of great songs; R U mine, the criminally underrated I wanna be yours and arabella which I think has some of the best lyrical structures of all time. Cuts like mad sounds and no.1 party anthem I think brings the pace down and I seem to be the only person who doesnt have much love for knee socks. Nevertheless, love this album.
2. WPSIATWIN. 5/5, considering the age of the band members, it was clear they were going to be one of the biggest bands of all time. As i've said, this album has so many strong songs whether they be hits or fan favourites. In the UK, i think its likely to be most peoples favourites, especially for those who grew up with the record. When I saw them in concert, people were chanting mardy bum and when the sun goes down requests. The only song which I think is a misstep is perhaps vampires... but this record is still amazing. A certain romance will be played at my funeral as a homage to family and friends as it always reminds me of them connections you couldn't live without.
1. FWN. 5/5, although I don't always come back to listen to the album as a whole, I think it has so much variety that you can go to different songs at different times. Not to say it isn't a great listen all the way through, I just always find myself coming back to this record for different songs depending on my mood. Even weaker cuts like beware... are still fun and packed with youthful energy, yet an adults self-awareness. Fluorescent Adolescent is one of my favourite monkeys songs with brainstorm being an absolute jam. Embarrassingly, I often picture myself and a band opening with this song, coming out with a synchronised dance buy hey ho, thats music for ya. Gem of an album.

Great list. Favourite Worst Nightmare is the best in my opinion as well, particularly considering (as you pointed out) the pressure on the band to deliver after their debut in such a short time frame.

It's honestly amazing , especially for a debut, and (I know this is a bold statement) it has one of the best rock songs of the 21st century- A Certain Romance.
Idk how you people are able to do this. I really wanted to, i like picking favourites and making rankings even just for myself but this hurts too much. Like choosing favourite child lol. I could pick my least favourite but I'm not going to be controversial here. The thing is, if the least favourite album of a band is something you still adore... it means something :D
I not a big fan of Arctic Monkeys but I like "Whatever people say I am, that's what I'm not" good album.

6. AM, This album has some great moments... but i dont like this pop rock style in many Songs. I dont know but its the album with lowest number of great songs.

It is very hard to put such a wonderful album on the 5. Position. Hellcat spangled shalala, black treacle, library pictures, piledriver waltz, shes thunderstorm... a lot of big tracks... but also songs like dont sit down and brick by brick, that remind me to AM

This record is a genius piece of alex turners musicial mind. The Songs are all written very well and I think this album needs no "catchy hooks" (american sports, tbhc has so great choruses)

The last 3 records are really hard to rank. FWN has so much classic fast songs like brianstorm and d is for dangerous and also sad and emotional Songs like 505 or only ones who knows.

This would be probably my number one in every other album ranking... but its not possible to top whatever People say.
I love the stoner rock sound, which josh homme brings in in Songs like crying lightning and pretty visitors. But i also love so much the ballads like cornerstone and secret door.

Why I think favourite worst nightmare is the best is becuase there is simply no bad song in it. The songs are so catchy and unique with a subtle meaning in them
you just can't skip any song on there, I agree that it's the best
