All the prius primes have that orange cord in the back... regardless of whether you have front wheel drive or all-wheel drive. That is the wire running to the main battery of the car which is underneath the rear seat and the trunk. You don't want to get water in there as you can fry your lithium battery. And you probably don't want to risk putting other stuff in there that could cause static electricity or who knows what.
Hi, could you measure the cargo space from front to back with backseats down? Also, do backseat fold completely flat? Im wondering if could sleep/camp with modifications. Thank you.
There are videos of the FWD 2023 Prius where people can remove the foam and there's a spare tire well (in other countries, the FWD Priuses come with spare tires). I don't think I'm going to try removing the foam with my Prius Prime, as I've seen videos where its battery and cabling leave little room (like your AWD).
In you case, you still can remove that foam. But you make fiberglass glass shell put on it. And further, you can cover those cable with plastic or wood frame to protect any impact in case in collision. So that you have space to put your stuff inside that space. Toyota Prius just want to save cost. Not build some cargo to make it more useful. Very lazy.
I feel kinda responsible for this video!! Thank you so much for your effort! I found some evidences online of the possibility to installa third party roof rack! If anyone is interested i can leave a link. For what regards the foam in the rear trunk: good news! I think i will remove it and exploit such wasted volume. Here in europe prius is only fwd. Great video
On Teslas orange cables mean high voltage (think fry you like an egg) so that probably does power the rear electric motor. Sort of looks like they used styrofoam foam to fill in and protect that junction. On a gasoline car they would put a spare tire on there. Going for better mileage delete the spare save 60 pounds. Boom better efficiency. Sort of surprised Toyota would use styrofoam as a support …. Seems like weak engineering.
There’s a TH-cam video that shows how to put in a spare tire & part the numbers to order.
Yup. There are many now.
Do you ever get on Pruis chat lots of info there !!!
Yup, I’ve been there.
I'd leave them in, bet there is some soundproofing aspect.

Prius prime has no AWD yet.
Scotch Guard video for the new cars upcoming? Just redid mine today!
Awesome 👍
Do not have AWD but have purchased a spare tire. Is there room for the spare if the foam is removed and there is no elevated/visible wiring?
Not sure the cover would still lay flat🤔
I’m looking into putting a spare tire kit under there when my Prius arrives. Can’t imagine being without a spare even with having AAA.
Definitely more piece of mind👍

same
That’s the AWD wiring. You can buy a spare tire kit that will fit over it.
What’s the kit?

Orange Cables on cars normally means you don't want to mess with it X10
Lol! What ever happened to RED for danger😬

Yup…your comment was the inspiration 👍
That looks like a massive positive lead. The chassis will be at ground so do not f with that.

I find the use of styrofoam a bit odd too🤔
Strange Toyota would use styrofoam. Must be a reason. That definitely needs to stay covered.
Cheap and light weight👍
Especially white. Ugh! Gray or black would be more practical.
Why in the heck would any tree hugger put a roof rack on a Prius?
Why in the heck would anyone assume all Prius owners are “tree huggers”?
Seen plenty of Pruis's with roof racks
