it's not a performance bargain, they are some of the best performance cars ever made. a performance bargain would be a Camaro SS 1LE or any car of that price range doing quick lap times.
Yes but also keep in mind, these cars offer the power and performance of vehicles that costs more than double of what these do especially now on the used market.
honestly just the base or grandsport with the ls3 to me is the best bang for buck, costs less than both of those cars and the ls3 is boost friendly and mod friend with a good chassis
I've had my 09 z06 for 16 months and every time I park it and get out I smile.. All stock, driving this car provides experience unlike any other, i could thank the 6 speed for that. Call me crazy but this car has curves I don't see on the new z06 (ofcourse its a beautiful machine) I also believe the value will stay up their as long as the condition is maintained.
loveburningaway Yeah but you don't get the aluminum frame, flared fenders, carbon fiber bits (on the ZR1) etc etc. Plus, with the current prices of the Z06 and ZR1's it just makes sense to skip the base model if money allows.
Rule of thumb for One Takes: If Matt's not smiling or laughing like an idiot, the car isn't that fun. Something I've noticed over the last 7 years of being subbed to this channel lol
We're All Thieves a reason they are cheap, and probably why the guy swapped the motor is because the factory heads on the LS7 have a defect, so you need to spend at the very least $2k the moment you buy it to fix that. Most guys end up spending close to 7-10k tho and do heads cam.
Chris Cahill they have a geometry problem, which was never fixed. But not every ls7 will drop a valve, I had a 06 from 7k miles to 88k miles with no issues at all. But yea it is a problem that should be dealt with when bought. But for 2k you have a reliable car that can run 10's bone stock and run with supercars on the track.
Those pops made from applying light throttle are probably the most underrated exhaust sound. Those are the kinds of sounds that usually mean fire and as Matt has said many times before, "Cars that shoot fire are always better than cars that don't shoot fire."
Zach Buchowski there is a video of this car blowing fire out the back on TH-cam... don't recall what it is named but it's on TH-cam... and it is a hell of a fire.! scary
It does but it's not worth it for the price paid for the car then mods. I would love if this guy could drive my golf 7R HGP and see his reaction. Putting out around 700hp it flies under super cars.
I'm a vette guy through and through but hearing he pulled out the LS7 was a kick to the balls. I am sure he loves it, but damn, the LS7 can make some nasty power NA. If I wanted to go the boost route I would just save cash and grab the LS3 C6
@@ReconVette19D If you go the boost route you can always swap the LS7 heads for some LS3 heads and you're good to go. No reason to get rid of the LS7 itself. It's a beast of an engine after all.
This is my dream car. An all motor 550 whp zo6 was the first truly fast car I ever road in at an autocross. Amazing how nimble these things feel on an autocross.
Martin Quin that's what I'm doing I cracked a sleeve and broke a piston on the stock ls7 was pushing over 7xxwhp. Currently building a ERL built shirt block with meth and a YSI!! Going to be a blast!!
The new Borla ATAK exhaust for the C7 has no drone and sounds incredible. And with NPP you don't have to wake up the neighbors unless you want too. Been running the ATAK on my 2016 Z51 for over a month now. LOVE IT!
Another awesome video Matt. Such an awesome niche you have carved for yourself bro. Definitely an inspiration. Probably one of my favorite online series ever. Nice balanced build.
AmazIng car, well done. Can't imagine adding horsepower to a Z06. I would just keep it stock and learn to use the crazy amount of horsepower this car has stock.
Are you sure about that? Im on the fence with my charged Z06 with LS7. Im not going for max HP though. If I knew 100% that headers would make the big difference under the curve I would go for it.
@nyplantingsgardendesigners5645 it will gain pretty good man. My 700+ whp 07 gt500 jumped 15 whp and 40 wtq peak to peak but was up 25-30 hp thru most of the curve and 40 tq through most of the curve. It was very noticeable and the car already had a full exhaust after the headers it was literally just the headers I changed. Has a 2650 tvs at 20 psi on a stock long block. It made a big difference on sound too sounds alot different and better much more so than I expected from just headers. Even if the stock headers are good long tubes are a game changer on boosted applications. It isn't just about peak to peak gains. Mine picked up a ton of torque and lots of power across the entire rec range. It didn't gain as much up top it was nosing over but the overall curve gains were very good and big torque.
That's a bummer about the 98 vette. Its well done... I'm surprised this guy sold the 427. That motor is bulletproof. C5's and C6's are so much bang for your buck. Can't wait to have a vette someday!
For all you haters out there saying that the owner is dumb for swapping engines and shit. let me tell you something!! I wish I had those type of problems. when you have the kind of money that owner does, you can do shit like that. That's why his car is on this video and yours is not. It amazes me how many people on here are just enraged by the beauty of this car. And that sound, OMG a true "Street Slayer" look at the owners Face and Matt's face. do they look like they give one flying fuck about you keyboard warriors, lifeless souls? Don't Hate... Appreciate! aside of that, the owner looks cool as fuck.!
HingleMcCringleBerry hahahahaha, that is true. I have plenty of friends who drive around these nice cars like GT-R's, BMW's and stuff but they won't even go have a nice lunch because they broke as fuck... hahaha so I agree with you on that. lmao. but realy seems this guy knows everything about that car and don't seem as if he is scared to added shit on to his car. have a great day brotha😀
DannyLlerenaTV for sure, I was a little surprised although seeing as he's not massive. What's really surprising is how many people do it to someone who has millions of subs and don't really put out anything controversial.
Well....when the owner said he bought a brand new car and built a completely new engine, adding an iron block adds 300lbs to the front of the car and you "might feel it turning", and not even having an idea to the treadwear of his tires....you're going to get dislikes.
We have a tiny channel and at some point had several people doing that, everytime we posted up we'd get 8-10 dislikes within 1hr and none after that, after a few months it stopped, but it was weird and a bit annoying especially being a small channel it doesn't help!
Have been noticing this car in background shots for a few videos now, was really looking forward to it. Very interesting approach ditch the ls7 and go vortech ls9. Admittedly the ls7 is not a very good boost platform so this makes a lot of sense. Although frankly for only 715whp it doesn't seem worth it. He could have had a pretty bullet proof 620whp NA with not all that many mods to the ls7! Now if you wanted north of say 800 I can see how this would make a lot of sense.
Everybody has a different tolerance for hp. I wasn't necessarily talking about the amount not being enough, more so it not being worth it in relation to the type of engine used. As in if your going to go that route might as well go for more than 715. J. Moore81 agreed, have an ERL 443 in an 08 z06 and it is a killer set up.
My only "tolerance for hp" problem is not enough or not enough torque. I hate pressing the pedal and getting no response, or getting the tach revved all up and still not really moving up the speedometer. Maybe it's a certain flavor of laziness, but there is not car in existence that would be too much power for me, especially in a stick, because I can always choose not to use it. 370 translated out into day-to-day is nothing. You won't have 1/4 that when cruising at low rpm, and depending on gearing, it usually means you're plenty fast in 1st gear but not any other time.
Why? Because the owner took out the core essence of the z06, the ls7 for the zr1 motor. If he wanted a pure track focused car he could have done it with the ls7 At the end of the day its his money and he can do whatever but it seems sorta pointless because he is not only losing resale value (if planning on selling eventually) but a zr1 will be worth a lot more down the road then a z06
Loves his tires, gets asked about threadwear says 4-5,000 miles, *unconfortable silence* then gets asked again and says he doesn't know, made me laugh a little
Just out of curiosity, do these people have to sign waivers before you get in their cars? What would be the legal implications if you were to wreck a car during a one take for example? You're obviously an incredibly skilled driver, but accidents happen.
I really don't like the sounds this car makes. From the idle that never settles at the beginning of the video, over the steam engine sounds from the drive by shots, to the drone the finally settled idle produces at the end (i do suspect the latter is a matter of placement of recording equipment though). That said the owner seems likable, and i do have a lot of respect for people who do things the way they feel is right, instead of finding the cheap workaround like most of us usually end up feeling we have to. So; Not a car for me, but respect none the less.
On the drive by shots, I think it sounds like a metal coffee can filled with nuts and bolts, shook up real fast. Terrible from outside, but the on throttle symphony from inside is amazing
Matt: "its like a belt driven turbo." Yes Matt, that is exactly what centrifugal superchargers are. Though after owning a car with a Vortech V1, and now owning a car with a turbo, they are completely different. My turbo Volvo makes all its power between 2000-5500 rpm. My old VW with a Vortech (MK3 VR6) made all its boost (maxed out at 12.5psi) above 5000rpm.
What an amazing car.. my buddy has a centrifugal supercharged c6z as well, and man when he downshifts and flies past, it sounds like the wrath of god with bald eagles flying out the exhaust
TheSmokingTire Only time ive seen one in person I was driving through thousand oaks and caught up to it at a stoplight. Was so intimidating just being next to it. And man the sounds it made as it pulled away, incredible car.
Ya, it really does. You can even hear it inside the car around the ~5:00 mark. Every time MF lets off the accelerator, you can hear that noise. It sounds broken. I've never heard a centrifugal unit that sounds like that.
I no bro im a mechanic and have a tuned twin turbo Z just sounds horrible on this car. I no the motor is fine and sounds cool in the car just that flutter is horrible almost prefer a blow off I guess. Still a sick car dont get me wrong.
Maybe with a cheap blow off valve off ebay lol Not anything I build or anything I can appreciate sounds ridiculous. Get it all out in one shot not slowly fart it out lol.
The first time you drive a Z06, and I don't mean old-man drive the car but really drive the car fast, you realize that it's something on another level. It's a step above normal "fast" cars like M3s, Golf Rs, etc. Even stock. That's just my opinion and you won't know unless you get to see the difference for yourself. 2011+ Z06's with the Z07 package is where it's at.
no, someone had to pull out of my way during that one I think. SOmeone had to pull over when I was in the MK1 golf and when I was in the 914, both of which have under 100 hp.
OK @smoking gun, I think I actually got an erection listening to this Beast! that Zo6 looks amazingly fast! The owner actually looked a little nervous on the passenger side as if he indeed was scared of the power... Awesome job guys.! you have some great videos! Scary Fast Car!!!
ro63rto In the US we use the AKI system of octane rating. AKI is (RON+MON)/2, or the average of both. Because of the way octane measured in the US and Canada it appears as though it has a much lower octane than if it were measured in RON. In addition California has crappy gas meaning meaning if it were measured in RON it would be anywhere from 95-97 octane In most of the United States we have 97-99 octane if measured in RON.
ok so just googled and it looks like your 91 is equivalent to our 95.3. Better than I first thought but still a tad low. Our 99 costs me £1.25 per UK litre at the moment thanks to all the gov taxes.
What an excellent car , I love the sound and it really moves.... PLease Matt do more modified corvettes, even the old ones like the C4, C3... We dont get to see those in EU.
You think it's an F40 or something? It's a mass produced plastic american car, dude. Let him treat it like he wants. You know, because he owns it and you don't....

Perfectly aligned with the fenders and just the right amount of wheel gap...Looks awesome!
That constant boost bleeding is so irritating.
I couldn’t stand that with my ProCharger.
are you kidding? it's intoxicating
I always focus as much on the owner as the car. it's nice to a guy who did a great build and has fun with it.
Nice car but I would never swap the 427 for an 6.2.
Unless I blew up the LS7 first neither would i
Alpt of them had an issue with the heads though, thats why i didnt want to get the 7.0 without warrenty

Ya, it really does. You can even hear it inside the car around the ~5:00 mark. Every time MF lets off the accelerator, you can hear that noise. It sounds broken. I've never heard a centrifugal unit that sounds like that.
Brian Heiden the procharger is constantly making boost, so once you let off the gas the blow off valve stays open which is why it sounds like that
I no bro im a mechanic and have a tuned twin turbo Z just sounds horrible on this car. I no the motor is fine and sounds cool in the car just that flutter is horrible almost prefer a blow off I guess. Still a sick car dont get me wrong.
It sounds more like a turbo than a supercharger.
Maybe with a cheap blow off valve off ebay lol Not anything I build or anything I can appreciate sounds ridiculous. Get it all out in one shot not slowly fart it out lol.
Man...I wish I had roads like that around my home...people in California are so lucky.
cammed and supercharged with no headers. that dude is brave.
That's nice power on that vette, nice driving Matt 👍
He had sold the C long before this video was posted i think :(
wow the exhaust drone is insane even in the video....just drones out all the conversation
Is it just me, or does the car have trouble keeping the revs at idle?
Hieronymus Bosch it's got a more aggressive cam in it to help with flow higher in the revs. Causes it to idle like that
I find it odd you didn't know that, we never know everything though lol.
The more you know.. Thanks for clearing that up, man ;)
This one no longer has the LS7....
The sound is intoxicating!! Great Car!!
Needs vtec
Scorpio S doesn't everything?
Lies and slander
brandon18054 blocked and reported
it'd be SO much faster with vtec yo
This cars entire camshaft is all vtec size lobes, its basically always in vtec :P
Nice Vette, Thats the way to build em. Aluminum block, mild cam and boost.
Don't sell the Vette! Its legendary
he already has
The first time you drive a Z06, and I don't mean old-man drive the car but really drive the car fast, you realize that it's something on another level. It's a step above normal "fast" cars like M3s, Golf Rs, etc. Even stock. That's just my opinion and you won't know unless you get to see the difference for yourself. 2011+ Z06's with the Z07 package is where it's at.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah that flutter aaaaaaaaaaahhhh help me I can't handle it
Great job. I have been struggling with my charged 06 Z06 for a few years now. I could have just sent it to y'all!
7:10 Porsche incoming!
On "One Takes", have you ever pulled over for a car ( or bike) going faster than you?. You know.. "Canyon Etiquette"...lol. Great video Matt.
Jay Kells no, never had to although I watch my mirrors just in case. I'll get blasted by the occasional liter bike
erpwizard Was asking because I was sure that Matt was gonna have all kinds trouble while testing that 86 Scirroco last month haha..
no, someone had to pull out of my way during that one I think. SOmeone had to pull over when I was in the MK1 golf and when I was in the 914, both of which have under 100 hp.
Why not just buy a Zr1? For all the money you spent trying to make it one.
Cause the C6 looks better
@@walmarthoodies9647 are you high
Kai B. They made a c6 zr1 lol
Carl Manney driving comfort
The sound from 1:27 to 1:31.... love it!
OK @smoking gun, I think I actually got an erection listening to this Beast! that Zo6 looks amazingly fast! The owner actually looked a little nervous on the passenger side as if he indeed was scared of the power... Awesome job guys.! you have some great videos! Scary Fast Car!!!
This sounds like a locomotive when you let go of the gas. What a beast though.
" Poor, sad soul"
Now i know how to call them ))))
DAT interior man...feels more like a prototype than a production sports car from the 21st century.
91 octane?
Forget e85, don't you have 99 octane in America?
ro63rto only some gas station it's almost rare just like e85 but the high octane gas is like 8-9 bucks a gallon really expensive
ro63rto In the US we use the AKI system of octane rating.

Really didn't know that. Thanks.
Wish "standards" were Standard 😢
ok so just googled and it looks like your 91 is equivalent to our 95.3.
Better than I first thought but still a tad low.
Our 99 costs me £1.25 per UK litre at the moment thanks to all the gov taxes.
Interesting, in Australia 91 is the lowest you can go. We have 91,95 and 98. Some places even have 100.
Those down shifts sound amazing even through the video
Did you just assume that Honda's gender?? *Triggered*
What an excellent car , I love the sound and it really moves....
PLease Matt do more modified corvettes, even the old ones like the C4, C3... We dont get to see those in EU.
That flutter is so gross.
NoBrakes23 nope, dont like it...
Absolutely right. It's his car to do with what he wants. It offends me, but to each his own.
SDD525 Really? I thought everything would conform to my snowflake wishes.
Deep
This is a great build! Besides swapping the z06 block with the zr1 block it's a pretty simple and straight forward build.
Damn man. You gotta start working out or something.
That exhaust sounds amazing but what is causing the noise when they do the flybys?
Boost bleeding apparently
wow, what a waste of a z06 and LS7.
Such a beautiful car, great review Matt
Got the tires hot and it's pure muscle glide and slide.
That C6 sounds great!
Such a smooth powerband.
I couldn't do this to a Z06. Go buy a normal C6 and get some fender flares. Thumbs down, unsub and reported this blasphemy to TH-cam.
Dungzoo cool, go be a lil bitch some where else.
Dungzoo says the person who can't even afford a z06. it's his car, let him enjoy modding it.
"Your Corvette is not a collector's car" RCR
You think it's an F40 or something? It's a mass produced plastic american car, dude. Let him treat it like he wants. You know, because he owns it and you don't....
Is everyone ignoring the troll face display pic?
This Vette kicks ass
This car is amazing. I honestly want one just like it
the lopey cam at the beginning when they were speaking was amazing
Matt!!! You need to do a ZR1!!! take it where you took the Viper TA - you'll love it!
