This 1998 Corvette Coupe belongs to an old friend of TST, Joel Feingold, a long-time runway racer since the beginning of SoCal Runway Racing. We've watched his Corvette evolve over time and it now runs 173 MPH in the half mile (same as a Porsche 918 Spyder) and 206 MPH in the standing mile. This car is very fast, but not only on the runways, as it makes for a brilliant, thrilling canyon drive as well.

Over sized K&N filter with custom 4" intake tube that feeds a Novi 2k Paxton Supercharger.
Custom air to water aftercooler with 2 heat exchanger mounted in the front nose,
Duel Meth injection by Alky control.
Nick Williams TB & MSD air attack intake.
AFR 225 Tony Mamo ported heads with custom specs cam for my set up.
Forged pistons, rods, and crank in a QMP Racing Built LS3 stroked 418.
Mcloed RXT 1200 clutch
Z06 TQ tube, Custom built Tranny with shorter 5th & 6th gears, Quaife built Diff.
Pfadt coil overs, with T-1 sway and corner weight
Super modified custom set up on fuel system, rock solid pressure.
Brembo brakes all around, with HRE wheels & Toyo R888s
Billy Boat fusion duel mode Exhaust and 2" Kooks Headers.
4 stage dry sump oil system with 12 quart tank.

I guess that depends on who is driving, but again Matt is a very competent driver and I only started getting a bit nervous towards the end as he got more comfortable and started pushing the car harder…
It's hard trusting anyone else that is driving fast, it takes a lot of getting used to, to be a passenger. I'm terrible at it lol.

MunroM84 for an street legal road course race car it is soft, but for a street legal half/full mile race car, it's just right and well sorted. You don't need super stiff suspension if drag racing is what you are after.

uber sucks that car and quiet don’t belong in the same sentence. God himself couldn’t keep that Car quiet on heel-toe downshifts.
Houston how wide open the throttle is makes a big difference, I've had loud cars.
The engine rev's super fast because of the lightweight flywheel, so his first few rev matches I think he overdid it a bit.
Yep, that first downshift scared the shit out of me! I had my speakers up WAY too loud for that!

I've known that car for 20 years. Good to see he still has it, gotta be one of the most expensive c5 builds I'm aware of. Not sure if that is a good club we are in our not.

The fun part is when Matt hits the go pedal completely. I can't even imagine what a car with that power level feels like. I've experienced 676 whp in a coyote mustang and thought that was nuts. This? Next level stuff!

Most drag/straight-line guys have no idea what downshifting is. Its not like they ever have to do it. Why do you think Chevy had to put auto-rev matching on the new Corvettes and Camaros? They are keenly aware that nobody in their target market knows how to manually perform a downshift correctly.

Joel and his Vette are legendary. I was watching his insane canyon driving vids on the Vette Forums a decade ago. Joel is a master driving in those canyons. His vids are much better than having to watch Farrah.

You know he's driving a fast car when you get nervous just watching the video. Very rarely can you get a good sense for the speed watching a video but the way everything was flying by and the car was soaking up those bumps made it so real.

Good to see he has it still. I used to talk to joel quite frequently on a small corvette forum we were on. He certainly got his use out of that car. And still hasnt really changed it in the last ten years much from what I can see.

You can alter how wide a GoPro shoots, from 'regular' flat to basically fish-eye. I'd assume he altered it to fit everything in the frame.

I'm not surprised if the owner is terrified. That much power with a guy who likes to drive fast in a canyon where if you lose it your life is over going down those cliffs. I like Matt but you have to have balls to do this, he may be a great driver but all it takes is the rear wheels to break a little traction. I love straight line speed but driving this route it'd be like a grandma.
Finally, not some tuner hack job 6 month rushed build. So nice to have a long time owner that actually does real man stuff with it.

5:25 you make the point that it "masks speed". I just picked up a C5 Z06 and compared to a regular LS1 C5 car, the suspension in the Z06 REALLY masks speed. That's a great way to say it. It's just so composed and controlled that a low 12 second car feels as easy to go fast in as a mid 13 second car.
I rarely comment on these videos but this is in my top 5 favorite one takes. This is one of the only videos recently where the speed actually translated on camera! This thing looks absolutely bat shit, like 675LT fast. Owner was cool af too!

I only dislike 1 minor thing... The filled in corvette logo on the rear.. I realize it kinda matches the custom paint which normally I might not like but it follows the lines pretty well and Im ok with it, but those letters bother me on any c 5. If your younger and want to go fast you can find c 5s for 10k all day, they rattle, the window seals stink but the stock stereos are loud, they are light and get 30+ Mpgs Hwy. The hatch fits lots of stuff , LS 1S Run good forever (stock anyway) and the car is relatively inexpensive to maintain. Many great well taken care of examples with low miles to chose from. You also get a removable top. Really a bargain if you don't have big money and want to bang gears and go around turns pretty well.
