root issue of procrastination is fear of failing thats why people do what they do but instead of treating failure as something negative treat it as a platform to learn then youll overcome it just embrace failure and its a natural process so dont get too hard on yourself :)

Procrastination is kind of ignorance of discipline. To bash procrastination read Atomic Habits by James Clear. My discipline is nothing more waking up with a cup of coffee, a notebook and a pen in the morning. My study takes less than one hour on each subject. Smallness is mighty. My study are various such as grammar, writing, copywriting, programming for whole morning. From getting up to my kitchen table with a coffee to do the study takes less 5 minutes. I must admit my first meal starts at 2pm every day. After meal, I am free to roam any books because I am bored and I let my curiosity guide me.

Find my why is really difficult, especially for me at this moment. I procrastinate so much, that I don't write my final assignment (kind of thesis for my bachelor degree) anymore. Each day past, each day I wake up anxiety filled up my heart and my mind, but I can't get myself to do my responsibility. I feel empty when doing it, I just can't. Everybody starts telling me that it's the end, it's the final step and I'll be graduate. I want it too, but I can't. I also feel so scared of what will coming after I graduate, I'm not sure this field is a right path, there is so much anxiety and I over think too much.

Hello. I'm at the age of 15 now, a tenth grader. I have to say that I do have the motivation to become great at math. This isn't a problem for me. Just yesterday I was watching your videos on topology (Because why not 😂). I understood everything from your first three videos but after reaching the fourth I realised that I needed knowledge on calculus. I have saved two videos on calculus and precalculus, both summing up to 15 hours and oh man, when Christmas arrives when I'll have 15 days without school I'll just go for it. It's such a blessing to know how valuable knowledge is. Most of my classmates, even those who are good students, only study in the pursuit of good grades and they usually don't care about education. They feel joy whenever school is cancelled for a day and I'm the only one who values and enjoys school. And I'll utilise that because I want to excel at maths and science.

Hey G, I sense some narcissism coming from your message. Keep pushing and with your attitude you will get very far but be careful on judging and belittling others (I know, kind of hypocrite to say that while writing this message). The only thing that matters in the path is how you react to the obstacles you face and if you keep pushing or not... Good luck and be aware that life is too short to spend your attention and time on useless matters ❤

  • @derenou
    @derenou 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I think this is crap bullshit, as are a ton of other similar advices. The problem is not a lack of motivation, discipline, or procrastination. The main problem (that nobody told about) is that math doesn't care about your motivation. You can be (and many math students agree with that) very motivational and excited, but the math problem you work with isn't being solved. You try again and again, but you have made no progress. That is really depressing. Sometimes it can be mutated into (a hidden) fear of math, and then you have all of this procrastination and "laziness". Sometimes the theorem, the field of math, and that hard problem don't care about how much time and effort you put in. So, the point is not in obtaining motivation or overcoming procrastination. The point is as follows: you can spend all of your life on math and don't succeed. Do you love math so much that you can accept it? Can you do math without expecting greatness? That's the point.

I’m 33 working as a senior software engineer. I given up on getting a math degree, for me I would just burnout and then my life won’t really change. I decided to self teach I just need to make sure I limit time on each so real analysis a few months and then to the next.
My goal or reason is more the skill of math than the status, I wish to change the world but I don’t have to be in academia.
I desire to become as skilled as a research mathematician but I don’t need to work in a university.
My path will probably end up in ai working on making my own company or finding a path in a company I work for.

I have a brief question. I’m extremely passionate about Mathematics as-well as Physics. I’ve been experiencing a decline in a mental health recently & it doesn’t take away completely my why, meaning & interest in mathematics, but I notice when I’m not in a good mental state i.e (Disorganized thinking that has become habitual, Compulsions & Overthinking characterized by Stress & Worry, a loss of mental clarity as-well as distortion in my focus & concentration) I seem to approach maths quite differently & can’t see, lose the meaning behind what’s happening or how to understand what’s happening & so I tell myself I don’t want to touch my precious Mathematics whilst being in this state? Should I still persist to do maths , am I overthinking or should I assess my situation & primarily work on putting my self in a good mental state before approaching Math & Physics? Please get back to me! I’m asking this because I know there’s a true beauty behind maths, which cannot be be expressed through words, that one can reach!

OMG, this!! I feel like math is too precious for me to be doing in such a state too! Like it's some thing very powerful and requires only me in a highly absorbent state where I get the intuition and not just brute my way through. I don’t want to not be able to do justice to such a precious, powerful thing and it’s way above me and everyone else.

Discipline isn't tyranny; it's a negotiation. It emerges from the alignment of values and actions.
    Other things that affect it.
    - The building of habits. Having structure in your life makes it easier to add more structure.
    - Conscientiousness. Some people feel misalignment from values more strongly, and so it is easier to be aligned.

@@AJAZZist You should give a listen to some of the talks by the author (just searching for James Clear Atomic Habits will get you some results).
The principles are very few and simple, and he usually gets the point across within 10-20 minutes. And to be fair, once you understand those few things the most of what you'll get from the book is examples of how people have implemented them in real life. I.e. you won't necessarily need to read the entire book after that, but some specific ideas might be interesting enough that you'll dive only into those chapters.

Your video a couple days ago saying stop trying to understand was very much needed.
Glad I found your channel 🙏💕

Amazing advice: You have a big brain, so don’t let it overthink you into a bad situation. If it’s a good habit, do it. Nothing else to think about. Thanks!

Hello Math Sorcerer, I enjoy a lot doing proofs, even more than solving integrals. That thing makes me feel at fault with myself.. I prefer comprehension, concepts and the big picture over all the rest. In other words, I feel the power but I don't engage in it..

This is one of the best pieces of procrastination advice I've come across. If there's one thing I would add, it's that sometimes people have a fear of the tasks they need to complete. This fear could stem from past negative experiences or concerns about the future. In any case, I believe that acknowledging that it's going to be painful at first is the first step, and realizing that the pain will fade away may help overcome this fear. It's similar to getting a medical injection - it's painful at first, but the pain will go away, and the end result is better to your well-being that doing nothing.

Completely agree! Gotta catch the feelings! In time, you'll get addicted to them and just do them. Some people do maths while watching movies because they are so used to going through new topics constantly. Others really need that clear space and motivational push! Gotta grab em!

I'm not that smart but I do have the havbit of overthinking. Whenever I want to do some math, or write a program, I start by worrying about whether my disign has been "elegent" enough. Finally I cannot fix all the "elegance" problems at first(because I'm not smart.maybe my problems can be easily fixed by you), and i give up.

Since I started University, I stopped to study for me, alone. Don't do that, always work and study for yourself, even when there is a ton of homework. That is my advice for future students.

Dunno, the best practice for me is the one I can sit down to daily without much effort to start. Pinter's Abstract Algebra was like this (lots of good problems in there), most books by Halmos, etc... Good authors make it easy to open their books every day, work through the problems and theory in there.

My mother tongue is not English, and I learn mathematics from English books, but I regularly resort to explaining lessons on TH-cam. Then I solve a problem from the book. I no longer know if my method of learning mathematics is correct, is this method correct? I hope I get an answer to my question.

I need to remember what you said @ 5:00 and try to take it to heart because I tend to have this do it all or nothing mentality which is very unrealistic. Some days I have studied math for the whole day and then the next day I might do the same thing and eventually I get burned out, lose interest and I end up not doing math for days, weeks, and months. I need to tell myself it's okay if I do math for only 30 minutes a day and do something else. I also want to say I also tend to overthink which is part of why I tend to be socially awkward. lol. I don't know how to stop overthinking. Any tips? thanks.
It's interesting you brought up the guitar because I used to play my guitar a lot before the pandemic. The pandemic was unfortunate because it made me lazy. It's been 4 years since I've played guitar.
And I need to find out the "why?" for learning and doing something like math or web development or anything else.

I agree with you on the whole awards and degrees thing. I've never cared about being officially recognized for things. Technically I still care about getting a high school diploma because there are jobs that do require high school graduation. Technically I still think post high school certification is important because there are some jobs that require it. For example, with engineering you need a freaking degree unless it's just the internship with internships as the expectation that you can get a degree and than go on to be an actual engineer.

Worth mentioning, one of the reasons why people procrastinate is that, ironically, they want to study well and be in the perfect mood for that, have a lot of time and no distractions. The issue is, the perfect conditions seemingly never come, and it's always better to at least try to study, than not study at all and postpone it for eternity.
