@@OrthodoxKyle debate is bad and does get into what was actually said during the council of Ephesus I and Saint Cyril tbf
"Wherefore, **we say that the two natures were united**, from which there is the one and only Son and Lord, Jesus Christ, **as we accept in our thoughts; but after the union, since **__the distinction into two is now done away with__****, we believe that **__there is one nature of the Son__**."
      - St Cyril, Letter to Acacius
"This objection is yet another attack on those who say that **there is one incarnate nature of the Son**. They want to show that the idea is foolish and so **they keep on arguing at every turn **__that two natures endured__****. They have forgotten, **however, that it is only those things that are usually distinguished at more than a merely theoretical level** which split apart from one another in differentiated separateness and radical distinction. Let us once more take the example of an ordinary man. We recognize two natures in him; for there is one nature of the soul and another of the body, but we divide them only at a theoretical level, and by subtle speculation, or rather we accept the distinction only in our mental intuitions, and we do not set the natures apart nor do we grant that they have a radical separateness, but we understand them to belong to one man. This is why **__the two are no longer two__**, but through both of them **the one living creature is rendered complete**."
      - St Cyril, Second Letter to Succensus
"But **being made one according to nature**, and not converted into flesh, he made his indwelling in such a way, as we may say that the soul of man does in his own body. **Neither do we understand the manner of conjunction to be apposition, for this does not suffice for natural oneness** (πρὸς ἕνωσον φυσικήν)."
      - St Cyril, Third Letter to Nestorius
"If **the union is a genuine one, then __there can in no way be two__**; Christ **is to be understood __only as a single__, solitary individual arising out of both**"
      - St Cyril, Defense of the Twelve Anathemas Against the Oriental Bishops

Kyle, the picture of St. Jonah was such a shock for me because his name was chosen for me as my Orthodox name 16 years ago when I converted. That picture I found when I was looking up Orthodox vestments while I was in the midst of my conversion from Wikipedia. All gloriously dressed and what struck me was his humility, it's expressed in his face. Not to many people know him or know about him. Truly an amazing Saint and I am grateful to honor his name. @@OrthodoxKyle Thank you for recommended videos. I hope that you enjoy those TH-cam channels. I have purchased so many things due to Orthodox Review. The books from Newrome Press are amazing. I love the Anthologian, and the other prayer books. It gives me my “eastern” fix you could say.
I was fairly certain that I was going to be Orthodox. My time with Orthodoxy was mainly with the OCA and GoArch. Why I am not Orthodox would require a long response, in which I cannot afford at this moment. But I would say that I was torn between Orthodoxy and Catholicism for a long time. I studied with my Orthodox friends for about five years. During those years, I attended the Divine Liturgy, studied the early papacy, while having conversations with Orthodox and orthodox catechumens. My friend is actually a priest for GoArch. But the whole purpose was to be in the Orthodox mindset or the phronema. To understand the Orthodox perspective, and how it differs from the Western Church. To understand how the Orthodox feel that they are more united than the Catholics despite the schism between Constantinople and Moscow.
I was actually torn between Orthodoxy and Catholicism twice. I converted to Catholicism a bit too quickly the first time, without looking into the Orthodox arguments more. As soon as I researched the Orthodox arguments more in depth. I recognized that it was quite powerful. I understood why the Orthodox reject the papacy as it is now. It rather weakened my faith I would say to a point where I was unrest for months. I was begging God for answers. But one day at the Catholic Mass, I begged God for answers and for peace. The moment I received the Eucharist, all that unrestness that I had for MONTHS was gone. It was a moment of grace, the peace that I was looking for. Thats when I stop having doubts about Catholicism.
But here are a few obstacles from me that stops me from converting to Orthodoxy.
1: I am a Catholic seminarian, who knows a lot about the Catholic faith. If Catholicism is true, and I were to convert to Orthodoxy. I would be automatically excommunicated and be in the state of mortal sin.
2: The Orthodox view on the Catholic sacraments. (I know that it can vary). But If I were to convert to the OCA Church, I would have to be chrismated. This would mean that I have to reject my confirmation as being a valid sacrament. Therefore to be consistent, i have to claim that all Catholic sacraments are invalid, which is something that I cant really do. Knowing that I have witnessed the power of the Eucharist, and confession in my own life.
But these are just a few obstacles that are keeping me in Catholicism. The moment of grace when I received the Eucharist, begging for God for answers when I was torn between Catholicism and Orthodoxy. Plus rejecting my confirmation to be chrismated when I have witness the power of the Catholic sacraments in my own life.
Please pray for me and my family. We are mourning and grieving from the death of my cousin. (He ended his own life).

It seems like you are a very genuine and nice person! God Bless you ☦☦
1: Consider what Vatican II teaches about Eastern Orthodox (not a big deal to be Orthodox). In fact many past Popes have said do not convert the Orthodox.
And that we have valid sacraments! valid bishops! etc etc We have the Eucharist = Christ. You can also read document like RORATE CÆLI: The "Ratzinger Formula" which say the Orthodox have not changed. Catholic cannon law Can. 844 §3: Catholic ministers may lawfully administer the sacraments of penance, the Eucharist and anointing of the sick to members of the eastern Churches not in full communion with the catholic Church, if they spontaneously ask for them and are properly disposed.
It can't be mortal sin to be Orthodox if we are allowed the receive the Catholic Eucharist.
2: God works in mysterious ways! I was Chrismated into Orthodox Church and have felt the Holy Spirit now more than ever.
      3. Maybe for you current situation, have you looked into Eastern Catholicism (Melkite). That may be a good stepping stone if you want the closest thing to Orthodoxy. Maybe look into a Eastern Catholic seminary and get that perspective. MANY EC Melkites eventually leave & join Eastern Orthodox
☦☦ I just think the Eastern Catholic route could be good for your current situation & could lead you to Orthodoxy!
I will pray for you! 🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@OrthodoxKyle Thanks man. Throughout the years, I have always tried to follow: “Always follow the truth, no matter where it leads you, no matter how uncomfortable it makes you feel”. I was a cradle catholic turned atheist. Years later I became protestant only to find myself starving for God more. The protestant service wasnt enough, that was when I came across Orthodoxy. It was through my local OCA Church, where I learned the faith. It was where I learned and read the Church fathers, learned about the Eucharist. I was so in love with Orthodoxy, almost became a catechumen. But then I had to research Catholicism to understand the Catholic perspective too. During that time, I couldn’t intellectually join Orthodoxy but I really wanted too, and I fought myself into the Catholic Church. Some time later, my orthodox friends wanted me to learn the Orthodox perspective, and thats when I knew I converted to Catholicism probably too quickly. So for five years, I was going to both GoArch and my local OCA Church. I did OCF with my orthodox friends, while talking to my friend who wasnt ordained into the priesthood yet. I took classes with catechumens too. Went to Catholic mass on Saturday evening, Orthodox great vespers on Saturday, then Orthodox Divine Liturgy Sunday morning. I really love the Orthodox perspective, I love the concept of the phronema, how the Orthodox see authority, and how the focus is living the faith, the experience rather than a more intellectual approach. Sometimes I get into deep conversations with my brother seminarian speaking from a more eastern perspective. The concept of “involuntary sins” and the difference between the metaphysics. One thing that is sad for me is after embracing Catholicism was to leave my Orthodox family from my OCA parish. They embraced me with open arms, helped me with my faith. Now years later, they continue to embrace me after not seeing me for years.
For number 1: I think there is a distinction between Orthodox who were never Catholic, and Orthodox who were former Catholics. In the mind of the Catholic Church, if you were Catholic and you left Catholicism for Orthodoxy. You entered into a state of schism and that is grave matter. For me, I would believe that this would be a mortal sin for me. So leaving the Catholic Church is not something that I take lightly. Of course I acknowledge that the Orthodox have valid sacraments. Wish it was the other way around from the Orthodox side since it is debatable in Orthodoxy. The catechism from new Rome press would claim that Catholic sacraments are invalid due to sinning against the Holy Spirit.
For number 2: Amen to that. God does works in mysterious ways. If someone were to ask me: why I am not Orthodox, my first response would be sharing my experience of peace after receiving the Catholic Eucharist after going through a crisis of faith torn between Orthodoxy and Catholicism. I can’t explain why rationally, but only from a personal experience that helped me embrace Catholicism.
For Number 3: Yeah I have looked into Eastern Catholicism. I have two Eastern Catholic Churches that are relatively near me. The Maronite Eastern Catholic Church, and the Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic Church. I am really close with the parishioners at the Ruthenian Church. We talk about the differences between East and West all the time. But I am also friends with Melkites and Ukrainian Catholics. I have served the Divine Liturgy with the Ruthenians and the Ukrainians. I am friends with a Melkite subdeacon and a Ukrainian deacon. But I do love the Melkites! Probably the most Orthodox friendly, and their Liturgy only mentions the Pope once. I have met many Orthodox attending Melkite Liturgies with me.
I do love Byzantine spirituality. I might prefer Byzantine spirituality over Latin. But i am finding that the Carmelite spirituality can be similar to Byzantine spirituality. My seminary has told me that I can be too “Byzantine” sometimes. But it would be very hard for me to leave a latin seminary to join an Eastern seminary. The process of switching sui iuris Churches can take years, and if I want to be ordained with the Ruthenians, it would take me 15 years rather than 4 years at the latin seminary. My best option might be: Ordained as a Latin priest, then get the faculties to celebrating the Byzantine Liturgy. (This will require me to be at the Byzantine Seminary for an entire academic year, where I will learn their chants, their liturgical calendar, and the spiritual life for the entire year).
Thank you for praying for me. It has been really tough processing my cousin’s death, not sure if the pain will ever go away, but I know that through God’s grace, I can transform the pain, and unite that suffering to Christ. I will include you in my prayers. God grant you many years!
