What do you think we use in bakeries? Pillsbury makes a wide assortment of cake and muffin mixes, that come in 50 pound bags, saving us tons of time. Our small bakery, of 5 employees, could easily go through 100 pounds of yellow cake mix in a week, with no complaints of quality.
I'm a bit disappointed that Krusteaz is not on your list, but they are pretty regional: the company was founded in Seattle, Washington by a group of homemakers looking to make some extra money during the Depression by selling "just add water" pie crust mix (crust ease, get it?) This was followed by a number of products including pancake mix and various cake and muffin mixes. They are still in business and sell in Washington.
Duncan Hines had a Butter Recipe Golden cake mix that was by far “the Cadillac of cakes”. They changed the ingredients about 14 years ago and it’s been downhill ever since!!
Pamela's is simply the BEST. Try making the chocolate cake mix with leftover cold coffee and a little sour cream. You will NOT be sorry! The Duncan Hines keto cakes are pretty darn good as well, and adapt as a base. As a g/f person, I would STRONGLY avoid Pillsbury gluten-free. It tastes gritty. The sugar-free is NOT consistent. Pillsbury has not improved its recipes in years. I'd also avoid Birch Benders. Birch Benders has similar problems. King Arthur is not as good as the Mashed reviewer claims. It tastes like plastic.

What is your favorite brand/flavor of boxed cake mix?
I would go with Betty Crocker. Honestly, I will ALWAYS go with homemade no matter what. No box mixes period
I live in Michigan, and grew up in the 60s, & Jiffy mixes, at the time cost 19¢

I know the bakeries I go to don't use cake mixes. They are like a higher class bakery
I've worked in two bakeries, neither used pre-packaged mixes for anything they made.
I worked at a bakery where it was all in house. But coming from a variety of restaurants I am not surprised.

I am not a baker, however King Arthur makes me appear to be an accomplished one. I really appreciate King Arthur Co, and all its products, impressive.
I used to stack pallets of Duncan Hines cake and brownie mixes, until the company I work for opened a separate plant just for Duncan Hines products.
