  • And yeah..i'm aware of the out of sync issue.......I'm working on a fix for it. :) The end of the video covers how to reinstall the washers.
    This is a full tear down from start to finish excluding spool bearing servicing. (hedgehog studio spool pin remover broke while filming) figured it'd be best to cut it out.

    There are a lot of tutorial videos out there for detailed jobs and I must say this my friend is one of the most well filmed I have seen. If it wasn't for the slomo at beginning it would be perfect!

    A beast of a reel! You can't go wrong with SS gears... even if it doesn't have double bb pinion support.

    Thank you so much for the video. I watched at least 10 ads to help support. I do want to say you went kinda fast putting it back together. Especially the spool and side that held the spool. I would mention which direction to turn the side with the spool to get it off. Mine was stuck bad. Overall 9.5 out of 10 on the video. It help going step by step.

    Would just like to take a moment and THANK YOU!!! I took pictures and everything I thought I would need in case I had a doubt while putting reel back together. Well I didn't and was in a pickle. But you bailed me out on the anti reverse dog. I didn't see it was split between the gear. So after watching your video I got it right. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, I'll be subscribing and watching other vids you've done. Perfectly done videos on the reel and your knowledge/meticulous nature is the way an instructional video should be done. A+ Sir

    Hey @tackle advisors, I know this video is about 4 years old but I hope you get to see this. I've been watching tons of your vids lately and just want to say first of all, thank you for your amazing content. Its helped me a ton on my recent purchases. I'm at a bit of a predicament that I hope you can help with, I have just recently started fishing and I've decided to finally invest in a baitcaster. I will mostly use it for float salmon fishing in the river, I also eventually want to learn and get into bass fishing as well its just that in my region, salmon is pretty much the go to fish. Just wondering which lexa hd would you recommend the most, hd400HSL-p, hd300HSL-p, or hd300XS-p? Is the higher 8.1:1 gear ratio on the XS of much significance? I'm a total beginner as you can probably tell lol. Huge thanks again!

    Are you using the TSI 321? I noticed on their website that it isn't recommended with any grease because it breaks the grease down. There are several different products of corrosion X. Which do you recommend and are you mixing that every time you grease? Is there a general rule for where to use grease and where to use oil? Thanks for the great video and attention to allowing the viewer see exactly what you are doing.

    I have a Lexa 300 left hand, and I cannot get the main gear to come off. Thoughts?
    Second question: what is your work surface and where did you get it?
    I appreciate the video. my reel, about 3 years old, has gotten into the habit of reengaging just about the time I complete the forward swing of a cast, usually with a 6XD on it. I took it apart, cleaned and greased it. We'll see if that helped.

    Your video is a lifesaver! I watched it so many times to service my Daiwa Lexa 300H LC (line counter) and the 300 HD. There’s no way I could have it done it in my own. Thanks so much!
    Regarding the 300H, I couldn’t remove the side opposite the handle. There’s no screw, just a clicker (for making clicking noise when the spool spins). Do you know how to do it?
    Also, I had a problem with that reel even before I serviced it. It happened just recently. When I turn the handle, no matter the drag, the reel doesn’t engage. I have to lift the thumb up to engage it. This problem is intermittent. Any thoughts?

    Another great video, Thank-you! I just got this reel a not long ago and haven't fished it yet, looking forward to using it this season mounted it on a Trevala TVSC 63M, love this set-up. Now I can service it too! Is the older grey version of the Diawa 300HS-P the same on the inside? I've got one of those too. Would love to see a break down and service on one of the new Saltigas 10 or 15's.

      Thanks again Joe! The two are virtually identical. You can follow this tutorial and not come accross any surprises. 90% of the time you don't even need to remove the springs for the thumb bar. Avoiding that means. You should be in and out fairly quickly.

    ah. took 40min to get there but i was wondering if you used grease or oil on the main/pinion. I've gone back and forth using various products. I've had a few reels lose smoothness in a short time which i thought was prematurely and i always wondered if it was grease vs oil or even the product i chose. I suppose i'll never know for sure. The one thing that makes me lean towards oil is the fact that several manuf include oil with their reels. I don't think any reel manuf ships grease in the box

    Great video, thanks! But now I have a problem that I hope you can help me with. I broke down my Lexa 300 HSL and when I reassembled it, the cast control knob underneath the star drag isn't working. No matter how tight I tighten it, the spool runs free when I put any weight on the line. I don't see anything that indicates a problem but it just doesn't cause the friction that prevents the line from flowing anymore. Any ideas for what to look for? Thanks!

    You stated the original bearings were greased. All of them? Nothing I can find in the LEXA-HD300XSL-P specs to verify and I don't want to be oiling them if they are greased from the Daiwa. Are the Tranx bearings greased from the manufacturer as well? FANTASTIC tutorials!

    Thank you for the detailed walk through. I just serviced my lexa 300 HD. It fixed up the thumb bar stickiness that I previously had but my spool still very sticky and no where near as smooth as day one. Would that be possible I over grease the reel? Should I clean out the grease and just it back together? Or it’s because I’m just using the penn grease not the daiwa grease??

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Max you may have gotten grease on the inside of the pinion that is hitting the spool shaft. That will slow it down significantly. Also I think Daiwa greased the spool bearings in that reel. And the service may have freed up or moved the existing bearing grease causing it to be sluggish

      I've had that with a 300 and a friend's.. Like a metallic squeel... Honestly I'm not sure if it's bearings or the shaft under the tensioner hitting the bushing (which is a larger bore than the shaft) wish I had a definitive answer but tsi321 on the bearings seems to help

I tried to lube it but it still makes the same noise... I open up the reel and the reel is greased so I’m not too sure on what the noise is... cast great but that noise is annoying . I guess I should’ve stuck to shimano like how all my other reels are

      The main differences are in the materials also the HD uses 6 corrosion resistant bearings compared to I believe 2 on the WN. I think service should be the same but I’d wait for a response from the master.

    hei, i just bought lexa 300 hd left hand version. thanks to your video i could pre use service it. the innards pretty much bone dry from the factory with a little gunked up grease. but then i notice after service there is a little play on the whole main gear shaft assembly. just wondering if it suppose to slide in and out a bit few millimeter from the main frame?

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool,
      Do you mean if holding the reel. If you grab the handle. The whole tihing moves in and out including the drag star?
      A little play is normal
      But a few milimeters?? That may be excessive. Where was it purchased from. And was it purchased new?

    • @Neko2fishore

      IF it doesn't move in and out on the retrieve it's fine. As all reels do it to some degree. Well every star drag I've ever owned does. Regardless of size and price. But if it pops in and out on the retrieve....That'd drive me nuts..and I'd return it.

      Shimano has been my favorite spinning reel company for as long as I can remember. But prior to starting my channel i sold off a ton and exclusively fish stella fi's
      I'll be fishing with my buddy from shimano later this week.....gonna try and sneak a few reels without him knowing :)
      I had planned on doing a what makes a stella...a stella....but it appears I may have worn the gear set out as it's developed some play in the handle.....which is very strange considering it's an FI so it's not tha told.....So I gotta send it out to shimano for replacement parts before I do it. ((wanted to do it this month but figured I'd wait for the repair.

    If the drive shaft bearing blows out, would that cause misalignment of the drive and pinion gears? When I have the drag all the way down, the reel will slip gears when reeling something big. Took the reel apart and discovered that the drive shaft bearing is really hard to turn and I notice there's a lot of play in the shaft itself (side to side). I can also tell that the drive and pinion gears are able to "bow" outwards, creating the slippage. I ordered a bearing, but wondering if I should've order additional parts for PM purpose.

    Hey, I have a Lexa 300HP (non HD) and it makes a grinding noise when casting and reeling with resistance. I completely dissembled, cleaned, lubed, greased (thanks for the video). However, it still makes the grinding noise. I checked the pinion gear and main gear (no damage), bearings (no damage), spool bearings (no damage), and break bearing (no damage). Any ideas? Have you heard of this happening before?

      I had this issue, a loud metal on metal screeching sound when I cast. I replaced the spool bearings but that wasn’t it. I ended up cleaning and polishing the spool shaft and inside of the pinion gear with 800 grit sandpaper and it fixed it. I think a grain of sand got in there between the two and caused a very tiny burr on the shaft.

    Why do dislike non disengaging levelwind on narrow spooled 300 size low profile baitcasters like okuma komodo and citrix and Lexa 300..? Wouldnt a low pro with clicker and disengaging levelwind on a narrow spool cause problems casting and when fish runs and the guide stays in place while line moves back and forth coming off spool.

    • @johntipton2354
      @johntipton2354 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed this too, he definitely flipped flopped it. It's going to work ether way, but I would want original orientation. I would think that having the lifted wings toward the handle would cause less friction, ware and scratching to the drag star. It is possible that he had it in there wrong from the last time he reassembled the reel. He did say it was taken apart over and over again to get the video right.

    • @jeffsmith8958
      @jeffsmith8958 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s correct the way he put it back together the wings should be facing outward. It’s actually kind of to each their own though some like the increased tension on the star and some prefer if a little more fluid. Either way the reel will function.

    Same this lexa winn 300 gear ⚙️

  • @tjrralph
    @tjrralph 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I️ have a lexa 400hd that I’m having issues with. I was wondering if you have ever seen the drag stay engaged when you put the reel into free spool? If there is even the slightest amount of tension on the spool the drag stays engaged. If you have no pressure on the spool you can achieve free spool like normal. I️ have taken the reel apart and put it back together a couple of times but can’t seem to figure it out. Anything I️ should look for that could be causing this?

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      SO the thumbar depresses all the way without issue? When you had the reel apart. Did you press down the thumbar with the pinion and spool still installed. And did the pinion clear the spool shaft pin? That's a tricky one without seeing it first hand. When that issue occurs. What happens if instead of trying to pull line out. You try to roll teh spool the opposite way. DOes the thumbar trip like you cranked the handle after a cast?

    • @tjrralph
      @tjrralph 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tackle Advisors Yes the thumbar works as it normally should. When I️ had the reel apart I️ checked to see if anything was catching or binding up, but that didn’t seem to be. If spin the spool with the thumbar depresses it pops back up like normal. I️ just don’t know what would cause the drag to stay engaged only when there is pressure on the spool and you try to go into free spool (even just the weight of a heavier lure will cause it). I’m going to keep messing with it and see if I️ can find the cause. But if know of anything I️ should be looking out for that would be a step in the right direction. Thanks for the fast response!

    • @tjrralph
      @tjrralph 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The spool will spin freely as it should when the thumbar is depressed without popping up the handle up when you spin the spool. However if you take the line coming of your the spool and put any tension on the drag (even the slightest amount) press the thumbar the drag stays engaged and you do not get free spool. All you can do is pull line against the resistance of the drag, and the spool doesn’t spin freely because the drag is engaged. Turn the handle reset the reel. Release the line and the tension on the drag. Now press the thumbar down again and you get free spool like the reel normal does. It’s got me scratching my head. It’s has nothing to do with how I’m casting the reel. This is all sitting down at the work bench inside.

      @TackleAdvisors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you tighten the drag down. And turn the handle. Is there more resistance when retrieving??

      @TackleAdvisors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check to see if the spool is turning when pulling against drag. Or if the braid is slipping off the spool. If the braid is slipping. You have 2 options.
      Unspool and add in some mono backing. Or unspool and put a wrap of electical or duck tape on the spool. then wind the line back on.
      Some guys like leaving the arbor knot tag end long..laying it to the side and winding over it. ((I've done it that way too...but it's not guaranteed to stay put.))
      Check that and let me know. As that's the most common reason this issue occurs

    Great tutorial. I just have one question. When I tighted the handle with the last bolt, it seems there is a bit of wiggle room between the winged washed and the handle when the real's drag is all the way in. This causing the real handle to move left to right. When I loosen the drag the winged washer comes into contact with the handle and no handle play is there anymore. I didn't lose any parts or anything like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
