    I'm considered a "millennial" and learn any possible way I can, which includes my time being spent watching TH-cam "fix it" videos like this one. Scotty you're the man and i appreciate your passion and how you get to the point and shoot it straight. Keep it up. It gives guys like me who want to learn more about this stuff a chance to do just that.

      Millennials are treated a little too unfairly sometimes. I'm Gen X and will be the first to criticize but also being Gen X I have the unique perspective of what happened to the world and why it's where it is today, with its pluses and minuses. I know many of them are a product of the world they grew up in, and the masses have always gone along with what they're fed to a point.
      Millenials have a lot to deal with the previous generations didn't so I don't judge individuals, just observe what's wrong with the generation in general. There are plenty of Millenials such as yourself who are responsible people, even though it may not have been taught to them and are told now they don't have to be.

    • @thelexkex
      @thelexkex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Scotty, it is probably worth mentioning that not all halogen lights can be replaced with LED on the spot. Often you need install lenses to fix beam. For example there are no H4 LEDs that you can install directly without lenses. I mean of course the socket is the same but you will be blinding other drivers without lenses. So the rule of thumb if you car comes with halogen from the factory, leave it as it is.

    LEDs also resist vibration much better, I’ve been running LEDs for highs, lows, fog lamps, tag lamps, backup lamps for about two years now and I have NOT had to replace one yet. Soon I’ll be doing all of my interior dome, vanity, map and cargos. Not sure about the tails and turn signals, I really just like the pure white light and visibility, longevity is just a bonus with LEDs and they’re easier on the battery and alternator too.

      Did the interior light a long time ago, and added extra in the trunk to give light, as the original one there was both poorly sited and barely visible. I used some aluminium U channel and LED tape to get a light bar that provided even light without glare.

      More watts you say, I should look for that bulb, because led"s for reversing lights arent brighter at all. Thanks to everyone for response by the way, and qick tip, if you have week reverse light (bulb just burned or so) switch on rear fog light for extra light.

    My car has a projector headlamp. Tried using the LED, it was bright, but it didn't projector as far as a HID bulb.

      Toyota has perfected this in their bi-LED projector headlights. But when i peaked into one of them they are using a big ass LED about close to 2 inches wide and focused only on the front. then the projector housing has a flap that controls the hi and low beams similar to bi-xenon projectors. so yeah, you may have the wrong bulb,

      Christopher S those new cars you are talking about still don’t dazzle drivers, they are possibly using full beams. No German cars I come across dazzles me. Jonah GT-Four word of advice, leds are terrible on projectors, for whatever reason they never project a good distance, sure you get the color, but you never feel confident at night or in rain...expensive HIDs like morimotos or GTR lightings or just keep a nice 35w halogen, cheap HIDs are terrible as well just my 2 cents.

      See the beam patterns @ 2:12
      If you look at a halogen low-beam bulb you'll notice a tiny reflector just above the filament to limit the beam height. The LED bulbs in this video direct light upwards, thus blinding other road users. The LED bulbs with the single downwards facing LED maybe better but I can't vouch for how much light they'll give you or if the beam pattern will be perfect.

    Just one thing. Some people do not adjust the level after fitting LED's and that causes it to be blinding for on coming traffic even when dipped (not high beam). People should remember to adjust the levelling/focus if the lights have a different size than the original. 🙂

    Even with the H7 version that fits into my car, winning these unfortunately wouldn't do anything for me, because I wouldn't be allowed to use them, since they are not ECE certified. There are no ECE certified LED retrofit headlight bulbs available. So it'll stay Halogen for me, no matter what.

    LED's are too white at 6500K - far too white for safe night driving IMO as they impact your eyes night vision causing your pupils to contract and your rod cells to depolarize, compromising your night vision, especially your peripheral vision - 4000-5000k is where they should be. Funny enough bulb & vehicle manufacturers used to know this which is why cars used to have quite yellow headlamps - they are actually safer - but over the years white and even blue spectrum became popular and the science went out the window in favor of fashion and false perception that closer to daylight = safer. Now you get blinded by oncoming vehicles with 6000K+ headlamps so you have no choice but to combat your loss of night vision by increasing the brightness and whiteness of your own beams so your cone cells can get enough light to see, your peripheral vision is pretty much gone regardless and you are driving in a light tunnel - it has become an arms race with no actual improvement in safety - simply because people don't understand physics and biology.

    • @mujjuman
      @mujjuman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is true if the foreground light is brighter than the background light, which is why you shouldnt drive with your foglights turned on when it isnt foggy. OEM LED and OEM HID headlights have brighter, whiter light in the background and the light is projected (or reflected) further out onto the road.
      This is not a problem for OEM and projector units because the light beam pattern is further into the background and not as bright in the foreground.
      Putting in HID bulbs or LED bulbs in halogen housing causes the beam to be bright in the foreground which would compromise your night vision as well as scattering the light everywhere which blinds oncoming traffic and other drivers.

      I've only seen the 6500K lights on the shelves here which I wouldn't consider using - if I could find a 5000K LED H4 replacement from a reputable manufacturer I'd consider it. I'm not sure about the whole scattering argument - would that not depend on the bulb manufacturer? If they are an H4 bulb designed to replace an H4 halogen unit and the produce the same light output with the bulk of light to the sides (to the reflector) with the tip masking cutoff required by an H4 housing - which the Australian made Narva units I looked at certainly did, I fail to see how they are really any different other than perhaps producing more light and using less power and lasting longer? The problem was they were both brighter and whiter, and IMO that's not safe.

    Putting in HID bulbs or LED bulbs in halogen housing causes the beam to be scattered which blinds oncoming traffic and other drivers. Please dont do this and get proper projectors for these types of bulbs.

    • @GeorgeHamwi
      @GeorgeHamwi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      mujjuman that is completely wrong only hid lights cause that led lights don’t and led lights are dot approved for regular reflector housings

    • @mujjuman
      @mujjuman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      You're misinformed and totally wrong. LED bulbs in halogen housing causes light scatter and blinds other drivers. You need to put them in proper housing or do a proper retrofit.
      An item being "DOT Approved" causes a lot of confusion. "DOT Approved" lets you know that the equipment meets certain minimum Federal NHTSA standards, but it does not mean the item is safe for the road or even lawful to use. There are "DOT Approved" items that are flat out illegal in some states.

    • @CLsIim
      @CLsIim 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You clearly don't know what you are talking about then HAM. If you didn't need a specific projector, more manufacturers would switch to LEDs as the cost would only be slightly more, but they could market it with all the benefits of LEDs.
      The Corolla is the cheapest car I believe that offers LED headlights standard on every trim. If you ever looked at one, you would notice that it is not in the reflector housing and instead in a projector specifically for an LED. Honda's 10th gen Accord is a very good example as well as all new Acura models.
      Instead of telling Mujjuman with your wrong answer that he/she isn't even right to begin with, do a little research. I myself have done a complete HID retrofit on my Accord even though it already had projectors in the assembly. The only problem was that they were for halogen bulbs.

    • @GeorgeHamwi
      @GeorgeHamwi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christian Lamey try putting led lights in projector housing you won’t see anything at night, the projectors that come with halogen equipped vehicles don’t work very well with led head lights. And it is completely legal for people to put these led headlights in reflector housings, please do your research before backing up someone that doesn’t know what he is talking about. HID lights and LED lights are completely different and each have a different use. Try putting hid lights in a reflector housing that is what blinds other drivers on the road led lights don’t.

    • @mujjuman
      @mujjuman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So true Christian Lamey, even with projectors, you need to make sure that it's a projector for the proper bulb.
      Regardless of being projector or reflectors, they need to be designed for the proper bulb.
      For example, the F30 BMW came with specially designed reflector style Bi-LED headlights, and some older model Lexus came with reflector style HID xenon headlights from the OEM.
      All new Corollas come with LED projector headlights, because these projectors have the best beam pattern. They didnt just dump a pair of LED bulbs into their old halogen reflectors. Same with BMW. They redesigned the reflectors to be able to use the Bi-LED chips.They didnt just dump a pair of LED bulbs into their existing halogen reflectors.
      If you want to use LED, buy LED projectors and do a proper retrofit. If you want to use xenon, buy HID xenon projectors and do a proper retrofit. There are kits and guides available on the forums that make it relatively easy if you are good at DIYing. Or you can pay a professional retrofitter and get it done properly.

    Put a much brighter Chinese LED in your headlight so you can blind oncomind traffic. In europe they fine you for that and take your car's identification card so you can't drive until you change back to stock. In my opinion, you can use whatever light source, but first fit projectors to your headlights.

      Well we have tax on vehicles directy proportionate with the volume of the engine, well sort of...the tax is 50$ a year for a 2 liter, 200$ a year for a 2.6 liter engine, and keeps doubling from 3 liters, then 3.5 liters onward, so for a large v8 you pay as much as 2.500$ a year just tax. You can't swap an engine wich was not originally fitted to that model and year without bribing someone...
