Junior Firpo didnt struggle to acclimatise to the premier league. He was just never played in his correct position. He came from La Liga as a player who essentially played as a wing back flying down the wing and get crosses into the box with posession based sides in Betis and Barcelona. With little regard for defensive one on ones. He was clearly suited to a wing back role in a 3-4-3 when he came over to England. He came to Leeds and was then utilised as an auxiliary Left back in a back 4 in a team that was poorly coached defensively, and asked to defend against some of the best wide players in world football. And people wonder why he struggled. It really wasnt a surprise and in fairness wasnt his fault.
@@tannermillen8873 fair point but footballers are massively overtrained nowadays. Years ago a more injury prone player would have had more days off in order to look after them. But these days everyone is overtrained, so it's hardly surprising soft tissue injuries occur. I'm a distance runner myself, so it would be like me running a half marathon everyday. Yes I could probably do it, but it just increases the chances of an overuse injury.

You’re pointing out the infrastructural reality we live with in modern soccer inherently devalues a player prone to soft tissue injuries like him, though. I actually would like to see us re-sign him if it can be done cheaply but buy another wingback (or utilize Schmidt) and play a a back 3 with wingbacks like we hinted in the preseason. I think that system (with bogle especially on the right) suits our personnel and what will adapt better to the prem, if we get there next year. Idk if we have the manager or management team who will do that consciously though so it seems pretty risky to give him a big contract if we aren’t planning to make those systematic changes. That’s the key fulcrum in my mind for whether we should resign firpo or not, anyway
Agree with Nancy on Farke being a good fit for us right now in the Championship. We’re top so it’s mental to say he’s not doing well. However, we’ll need someone with a bit more experience of the Prem, to be able to attract the quality players, should we go up.
If RB salzburg want Wober, can’t we do a deal with Oscar Gloukh coming our way? The boys special and would definitely bring some magic to our team we’ve been missing since Pablo!!! Also with Soloman being here and it not being an issue with the fan base we’ve shown having Israeli players isn’t a issue at Leeds 👍🏻
There's no guarantee we're getting promoted this season with the current squad, they've been wildly inconsistent. At least 4-5 of our starters will go cold and won't survive in the Premiership. Now is the time to start rebuilding a Premiership-ready squad, allow signings bed in early. We need to sign promising players now and pitch them the vision: come here, do well, and we’ll get to the Premiership together. Worst case, if we don't go up, we’ve already signed 2-3 brilliant players who can guarantee promotion next season or sell them if needed as a backup. Parachute payments are done after this season. If we end up in the playoffs AGAIN, we risk another decade in the Championship. Not signing players now is a huge risk in regards to the bigger picture, and we got done last January because we signed nobody
Would love McAtee on loan but if Citeh are serious about the £25m obligation then I'd stay away. I bet the scouting team have got an obscure option from Europe lined up. Aside from the 10 role, I don't think we'll do anything. Why would we splurge when we have depth in every position. We're light on a 10 but Farke could use Gnonto, Ramazani, Piroe, Rothwell in that role. I also think we have more than enough to stay right up there. We are in a far better position than this time last year.
For me firpo isn't playing nowhere near aswell as he did last season!! Back to picking up silly yellow/red cards and now picked an injury again. We need to let him move on and not make the same mistakes we made with bamford, llorente and harrison by offering them new longer contracts and them being stuck on the clubs books. Got to trust the club will make the right signings in the summer. Would like to see 1 or 2 signings in January just so we don't stand still, other clubs are already making there moves.

I think Bergvall from Tottenham if they want to loan him out might be a good fit, he played alot of 10 in Djurgården before Tottenham.
