    I really like your speaking voice and your mannerisms. Which is what I try to find in stereo youtube videos (along with format etc). Some may agree about the way you talk. It’s almost like a podcast haha.
    Perhaps invest in a proper microphone? I did find it a bit quiet.

      Thanks again for the kind words. The microphone is a good one from Rode. Perhaps a lapel mic will do the trick ?

      I have to buy one ... again when funds permit. I did try it on the older P5 + older TT-PSU and it was an improvement.

    I highly recommend you consider upgrading the stock phenolic resin subplatter to a Groovetracer Reference subplatter. They make it specifically for the planar 3. You will be amazed at the sonic improvements. It lowers the noise floor significantly and brings small details you never noticed before to the fore front without being intrusive. I was on the fence about purchasing mine. Now that I have it on my Planar 3 I’ll never go back. It’s similar to getting a new high end component. It makes that much of a difference

    • @olaniyi570
      @olaniyi570 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would that sub platter work on the Planar 2?

    As far as mats go, the stock wool one is hard to beat, but my favorite alternative so far is a 1mm cork composite mat by a German company called Pathe Wings. To my ears it preserves all the detail even though it rolls off the treble somewhat and extends the bass without making it bloated and just generally warms up the sound splendidly. It's also a great alternative to the use of spacers for the tonearms if you're like me and bought the P3 sans cartridge in favor of a VM540ML. I tried 3mm acrylic, didn't like it. The sound was much too bright and lean, which makes me think any hard mat won't jive well with that glass platter. Next I'd like to give leather a listen.
    I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the groovetracer subplatter. That seems snake oily to me, and given what they run I'm glad you're willing to be the Guinea pig.

      How do you like the VM540ML on your P3? I have heard good things about the combination. How was the stet-up? Did you opt to shim? 2mm? I’d appreciate any thoughts you’d be willing to share on sound quality and tracking ability. Thanks!

    I am stuck between the P2 & P3 - its a hard choice and my methodology is maybe the P3 less the stock cartridge / kinda prefer to look at options for the cartridge - I also think the Neo PSU is a worthwhile accessory that cannot be used on the P2.. greetings from Ireland

      Hey, thanks for watching! While the stock elys is good, the P3 really sings with good MCs! I loved it with the Ania and the Dynavector 10x5 HOMC. Adding a neo later on definitely made significant improvements. Watch my review video on the Ania if you get a chance: th-cam.com/video/3h0fRm2tXCE/w-d-xo.html

    I enjoyed your review. I’m curious to know what your experience with the the tracking ability of the Elys cartridge has been? Have you noticed similar, better, or worse IGD on difficult pressing with this cartridge. Thank you for any insights you may offer.

    • @analogholic_reviews
      @analogholic_reviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there and thank you CT. The Elys tracked quite well. I've had two instances of IGD: one was with a very worn Bill Evans LP & and the other was with a new BN release of song for my father (lonely woman, of course last track on side B). The first instance, the IGD was reduced by going to a elliptical stylus but was still there as the copy was worn. The second instance the BN pressing was faulty and noticed IGD on on my other Rega and nonRega carts. So, while better stylus profile helps tracking, the Elys by itself is a decent tracker. I hope this was useful.

      @@analogholic_reviews Thank you your your detailed reply. I appreciate your taking the time to cite specific examples that you recall. Sounds like the Elys is a pretty decent place to start with the P3. I look forward to more content from you.

    Great review. I am upgrading from a Music Hall 5 which I purchased new in 2001. It developed a hum after having it rewired and have not been able to locate source. Main problem tho is that the bearings are going. I am looking at the R3 and your review really helps. My main concern is that the table is on a stereo bench on a hardwood floor which can shake a little. How is the R3 on vibration? My tracking weights for my cartridges ranges from 1.25 for Shure Type V to 2.0 for AT95 and it can shake a bit even with the split plinth I have with the MMF 5. If problematic, can I upgrade feet or provide better isolation?

    • @analogholic_reviews
      @analogholic_reviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks! The P3 plinth is light weight by design and requires judicious placement. That being said I had the table on the auralex isotone platform on a my stereo stand and I have wooden floors. I have similar vibration issues especially when people walk by and the auralex isotone worked well. I'm told that placing the P3 on Rega's wallmounted skeletal stand is ideal. But I cannot do that in my listening room.

    • @analogholic_reviews

      I would go straight for the P6, if I had the money. P6 has several upgrades: comes with neo psu, aluminium sub platter, tancast plinth, etc. Certainly a step up in sound quality.

      It takes about 15 to 20 hours of continuous play for that table to come alive. Does not sound very good right out of the box. There should be disclaimer about this. I almost made the same mistake.
